MoEthel Jenkins Glover

MoEthel (Moe) Jenkins Glover, 59, of Holly Springs, died June 26, 2007 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. She was a retired cook for the Holly Springs School System.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 30 at St. Paul CME Church in Lake Center, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Tony Wilkins officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three daughters, Gladys Glover, Cherry Walton, both of Holly Springs, Corrie Walton of Byhalia; six sons, Detrick Walton of Aurora, Ill., Arthur Walton, Craig Walton, Roderick Glover, Hezekiah Walton, Jekiah Walton, all of Holly Springs; four sister, Etta Hunt of Memphis, Tenn., Effie Walton, Mary Helen Jenkins, Cynthia Jenkins, all of Holly Springs; two grandchildren and a long-time special friend, Poger Walton of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Roy Lee Glover, Dexter Lee Glover, Prentice Glover; four sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers were Shaun Pegues, Willie (Pop) McNeil, Lewis Jones, and great-nephews. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Hubbard, Clinton Hubbard, Donald Jenkins, William Jenkins, Sandy Jenkins, Frederick Jenkins, Noah Johnson and Charles Walton.

Geneva Cook Houston

Geneva Cook Houston, 80, of Potts Camp, died June 30, 2007, at her home. The widow of Otto Houston, she was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 3 at United Funeral Service Chapel with burial in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Farron Ash officiated.

She leaves a daughter, Lottie Taylor of Potts Camp; a sister, Ruby Duren of Medford, Ore.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, James McNeal, a sister, Lillian Gilzean, a brother, Raymond Cook and two grandchildren, James Bo McNeal and Lottie Ruth McNeal.

Pallbearers were Tyler Holmes, Eric Howell, Nick Howell, Blake Holmes, Mikie Ash and Jody Swinford.

William Larry Joyner

William Larry Joyner, 60, of Potts Camp, died June 23, 2007 at The Med in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, a farm mechanic and an Army veteran.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 27 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery. Bro. Tony Roberts officiated.

He leaves his wife, Sandra Joyner; two brothers, Thomas Jerry Joyner of Olive Branch, Bobby Joyner of Collierville; and six sisters, Jamie Switzer of Collierville, Jean Bell of Holly Springs, Mary Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, Betty Thomas of Collierville, Tenn., Martha Nell Stevens, Diane Kimble, both of Olive Branch.

Pallbearers were Andy Anderson, Paul Anderson, Eric Anderson, Gordan Anderson, Wayne Cothern, Jeff Joyner, David Alderson, Jimmye Dale Green, Harold Palmer, Patrick Alderson, Kenneth Alderson, Joe Pipkin and Kenny Brown.

Dr. Richard T. Kelly

Dr. Richard T. Kelly, 72, of Byhalia, died June 29, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Hospice. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a research pathologist at the old Baptist Memorial Hospital in downtown Memphis. He is best known locally for identifying--along with research partner Dr. Wilton Rightsel--the Legionnaire’s disease outbreak at Baptist in the late 1970s while it was occurring. He was the chief of infection control at Baptist for many years and taught pathology at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 2 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Olive Branch.

He leaves his wife of 42 years, Velia (Val) R. Kelly; two sons, Peter R. Kelly of Southaven, Timothy R. Kelly of Oxford; and five grandsons.

In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to the Salvation Army, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis or Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisc.

Curley Lee McKinney

Curley Lee (Man) McKinney, 61, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Lamar and Grand Rapids, Mich., died June 25, 2007 at his home. He was a retired laborer for General Motors in Flint, Mich.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 30 at Hudsonville CME Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Bobby Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a son, Curley Lee Sallie of Grand Rapids; seven sisters, Regina Luellen of Lamar, Pauletta McKinney, Jessie Smith, Clara Lenore, Sylvia McCraw, all of Memphis, Tenn., Linwood Mull of Chicago, Ill., and Ella McKinney of Saginaw, Mich.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Scotia Mae McKinney and Olivia Banks.

Pallbearers were Brandon Luellen, Ronald Boyd Jr., Christopher Penilton, Jerrick Luellen, David Pritchard, Leberto Lenore and Damien McCraw.

Mahalia Foote Miller

Mahalia Foote Miller, 57, formerly of New Albany, died June 19, 2007 at her home in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held June 25 at Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ in Memphis, Tenn.

She leaves two daughters, Audjarie Maclin and Candice Miller of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Patricia Jack of Memphis, Tenn., Minnie Hoey of Holly Springs; four brothers, James Foote, Wesley Foote, Kenneth Foote, all of New Albany, Gregory Bagley of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Freddie Lee Bagley and Melvin L. Foote.

Thelma Plunk

Thelma Plunk, 64, of Byhalia, died June 25, 2007 at Baptist Hospital - Collierville. She was a home health care worker.

Services were held at 12 noon on June 30 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Taska, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, John Wesley Plunk; six children, Yvonne Hardaway, Barbara Moore, Wanda Hardaway, Michelle Wilkins, all of Byhalia, Martin Hardaway, Charlotte Jones, both of Olive Branch; five brothers, James Garrison of Chicago, Ill., Isaac Garrison, Edward Garrison both of Byhalia, Rev. Robert Garrison, Charles Garrison, both of Memphis, Tenn.; five sisters, Clara Harris of Byhalia, Verna Hardaway of Memphis, Tenn., Regina Martin of Cordova, Tenn., Margie Green of Holly Springs, Vernester Yancey of Collierville, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Susie Ruth Shipp

Susie Ruth Shipp, 78, of Arlington, Tenn., died June 26, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Lowry Ray Shipp. She was employed with Colonial Park Methodist and Bellevue Baptist Churches and was an Avon representative.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 30 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Red Banks Cemetery.

She leaves a son, William Lowry Shipp of Florence; three sons, Betty Sue Shipp Werne of Memphis, Tenn., Dorothy Lucille Millican of Memphis, Tenn.; Kimberly Annette Shipp of Olive Branch; a brother, James Edward Williams of Southaven; three sisters, Dorothy May Russell of Memphis, Tenn., Jewell Swarner of Greenville, Betty Jean Feorene of Niles, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn Allen Moore.

Memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Awareness.
