William R. Fuhrmann
William R. Fuhrmann, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at his home in Opheim, Montana.

Bill was born on January 5, 1937 at the farm in Baylor, Montana to Kon & Lillie (Walker) Fuhrmann, the youngest of seven children. He grew up on the farm with his siblings, attending the Fuhrmann School in Baylor and also Glasgow Schools until the eighth grade. He then spent the time after school working with his Dad and brothers on the farm until 1957 when he and his brothers Terry and Archie joined the Army Reserves with Bill receiving training as a cook. They took their training at Fort Ord in California. He served for six years, six months as active duty and 5½ years in the Reserve in Yakima, Washington.

After serving in the Reserve Bill returned home to work on the family farm with his brothers Larry and Terry. On June 20, 1969 Bill married the love of his life, Diana Fauth in Larslan, Montana. He and his new bride moved over to the Gilbert Fauth place where he and Gilbert worked together. On November 29, 1970 their son Justin was born and on February 22, 1974 another son John was born. They remained at the Gilbert Fauth place until 1974 when they moved down to the old Art Fauth place where they would live, raise their family, and farm and ranch.

Bill remained on the farm until 1994 when he turned the place over to his son Justin and moved into Opheim. He was an excellent mechanic and could fix almost anything. He was always ready to lend a hand to any of his neighbors when they needed it. He was a loving and providing husband & father and his two sons were extremely fortunate always having more “toys” than they probably deserved. Bill served on the North Valley Ambulance Board and was also a 4-H Leader.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and her parents, and a brother-in-law.

Survivors include his son Justin and his wife Geraldene Fuhrmann of the family ranch north of Glasgow, his son John and his wife Jodee Fuhrmann of Williston, North Dakota, grandchildren Shelby, Mandy and Gracie Fuhrmann, step-granddaughters Jessica and Jamie Horob, his sister Lorraine Gonsior of Kalispell, MT, brothers Kon (Joyce) Fuhrmann of Great Falls, MT, Verlin Fuhrmann of Scobey, MT, Archie (Charlene) Fuhrmann of Bremerton, Washington, Larry (Karen) Fuhrmann of Nashua, MT, Terry (Denise) Fuhrmann of St. Marie, MT, sister-in-laws Joyce, Karen, and Sarah Fauth, a brother-in-law Gary Fauth, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gwendolyn Clara (Palmer) Hopstad passed away in the late evening of January 25, 2008 at the age of 86. It was her wish to pass on at home in the company of her daughter Mary Hopstad and two granddaughters Brittney and Mary Jo Barnes. She will rest beside her husband Henry Peter Hopstad, who preceded her on the 27th of February, 1984.

Gwendolyn (Gwen) Hopstad was born to Frank and Winnifred (Phillips) Palmer on April 8, 1921 in Consul, Saskatchewan. While still of a very young age, she moved with her family from Western Saskatchewan to their homestead on Spring Creek, on the Big Dry, in what is now McCone County, MT. They moved to Glasgow when she was 13, giving up the homestead to Fort Peck Lake. She met her husband Henry (Hank) Hopstad while attending Glasgow High School. They where married on October 10, 1939. She went on to graduate from Glasgow High School in the spring of 1940. In her early years, while raising a family of 8, 6 boys and 2 girls, she worked as a waitress. Later, she became a telephone operator for Mountain Bell Telephone.

Gwen loved to travel. She passed through most of the Unites States, and visited Mexico with her mother, Winnifred. She went on to visit the Fatima Shrine and Mexico City. She also visited the Holy Land in Israel, Vatican City, and Lourdes France, with her cousin, Sister Timothy.

She loved to play cards with her family and friends. She spent many pleasant hours at the Glasgow Senior Citizens Center where she was honored to serve in the past as President and Secretary. She was a life long member of the Altar Society at St. Raphael. She enjoyed dancing, laughing, and music. “No one enjoys singing more than I do, if I could just carry a tune, ” was as one of her frequent remarks. Fortunately it didn’t stop her from singing.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Henry (Hank) Hopstad, her brother and sister Frank Palmer Jr. and Loretta (Palmer) Taylor, two sons Henry (Hop) and Lloyd Hopstad, grandson Daniel Anderson, and two great grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons, Donald and Carol Ann Hopstad of Kennewick, Washington, Charles and Roberta Hopstad of Glasgow, Floyd and Alice Hopstad of Glasgow, Alan Hopstad of Billings, two daughters, Gwen Anderson of Billings and Mary Hopstad of Glasgow, twenty-one grand children, twenty great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and loving and caring nephews and nieces. She was a super mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed by all.

Gladys O. Flesjer, 90, a resident of Valley County, Glasgow, MT died of natural causes on January 25, 2008 in the Billings Clinic in Billings, MT surrounded by her family.

Gladys was the fifth child of Elias and Anna (Olson) Stensland. She was born on June 21, 1917 on the family farm in the Highland Community in Valley County Montana. She was named Olga Sophie Glades Stensland, but she changed the spelling of her name to Gladys with a “y” in grade school.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Highland Church. Gladys attended first through eighth grades in the Highland School, which was s mile north of the family farm where she grew up. Her graduation from Glasgow High School occurred in 1935.

In the fall of 1935, she started working as a nurse’s aide at Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow and was employed there until 1943. On May 20, 1943, Gladys married Lloyd (Slim) Flesjer in a small ceremony at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow at 10:00 in the evening. Lloyd was in the army when they got married.

Her son, Lorin Edward Flesjer, was born on December 1, 1944 in Glasgow. After Lloyd was discharged from the army, they moved to Bellevue, WA and stayed there from 1945 to 1947.

Her next son, Gail Lloyd Flesjer, was born August 20, 1948 in Glasgow. The family moved to Kalispell, MT from 1947 to 1951. Returning to the family farm in Tampico in 1951, she cleaned the Tampico School and worked at the hospital in Glasgow as a nurse’s aide.

In 1960, the Flesjer family moved from the family farm to Glasgow. Lloyd worked at the Glasgow Air Force Base. When the base closed they moved to Kalispell, MT and Lloyd worked at the U.S. Air Force Radar Base in Somers, MT. Always, the Flesjer family found their way home to Glasgow.

She was a member of Homemaker’s Club for over 40 years. She held all of the different offices in the organization.

For several years, Gladys was a Clerk on the Election Board first in Tampico at Tampico Hall then at the Catholic Church, the East Side School and the Civic Center. She retired from being an election clerk in 2003.

She was a member of the Highland Lutheran Church, as well as a member of the First Lutheran Church of Glasgow. She was also a member of the Big Aide group at church.

Gladys enjoyed entering jellies, jams, canned goods, and flowers in the Valley County and Northeast Montana fairs. She was the first one to win the Rosette for the Senior Citizens Award given for the most points in the culinary arts department. She exhibited at the fair for more than 40 years.

She was a pioneer in home heath care. In 1987, she became an aide in the Home Health Care Department and she cared for patients at Nemont Manor and in their home. Besides providing care, she visited with and was a friend to those she cared for in the area.

She was able to stay in her home and drive in Glasgow until her death. She always said she was with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by looking at the numerous pictures she enjoyed on the walls of her home.

Gladys is survived by sons, Lorin (Lilla) and Gail (Edina) Flesjer all of Glendive, MT; four grandchildren: Lisa (David) Seekins of Pittsburgh, PA; Larry (Nikki) Flesjer of Miles City, MT; Taryn Flesjer of Medora, ND; and Darci (Doug) Baker of Glendive; and four great grandchildren Lisa’s children Noah (8) and Colton (6) Seekins of Pittsburgh; Larry’s child Alexiss (14 months) of Miles City; and Darci’s child Emilie (18 months) of Glendive, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Anna (Olson) Stensland; her husband, Lloyd (Slim) Flesjer; and her sisters: an infant sister Agnes Stensland, Elise Stensland Kirkland, Agnes Stensland Molvig and Bertha Stensland Nelson.

Gladys always enjoyed visits from relatives and friends whether they were in-person or on the telephone. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A gift in her name to the charity of one’s choice would be preferred over flowers.

Kathleen "Billy" Edwards

Kathleen “Billy” Edwards, age 83, of Jordan passed away on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Garfield County Nursing Home in Jordan.
Billy was born at Paris near Jordan, Montana on the DeBock ranch east of Flowing Wells, on July 26, 1924, the daughter of Jim and Olive (Liebole) DeBock. She was raised on the family homestead. She attended country schools and graduated from Garfield County High School. After graduating, she began working at the courthouse in Jordan at the LPA office during the war for a short time before teaching at various country schools in Garfield County. Billy and Lawrence “Hoolie” Edwards were married on January 1, 1945 in Glendive, Montana and they lived on the family ranch on Haxby Point. Hoolie past away in 2006 and shortly after, Billy moved to the Garfield County Nursing Home where she has resided ever since.

Billy enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles and was well known for playing accordion and piano at dances with Hoolie on the fiddle. She also enjoyed boating at Fort Peck Lake.

Billy is survived by special family, Jay and Gayle Twitchell and their family, Travis, Troy and Toni, special friends, Duncan, Scotty and Donald McDonald, Karla and Gene Christensen, brother, Jim DeBock and his wife Evie of Cody, WY, sister Joan Frady of Jordan, MT, nieces: Patricia Perkins, Deanna Murnion, Nina Bundy, Terry Stratton, Viny Lufborough, Velma Rice, Della Jane Jarrett, DeEtta Edwards and Marci Scarlett, nephews: John Frady, Kelly, David and Scott DeBock. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hoolie in 2006 and a sister Ilene Thomas.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Pioneer Cemetery. Jacob D. Huebert was born in Henderson, Nebraska. His parents homesteaded in Lustre in 1917, and he helped them farm and ranch while attending the Lustre School through the 8th grade. He then attended bible school in Lustre for several years. Since there were no jobs in the area, he was sent to Minnesota to work in 1931. On July 1, 1934 Jacob married Martha Rahn in Lustre at the Bethel Church. Jacob went to work on the Fort Peck Dam in 1935, working there for four and a half years. They then farmed and ranched on their own place in Lustre, where they lived until moving to Glasgow in 1997. They have lived in Nemont Manor and Prairie Ridge. Jacob enjoyed traveling, visiting the kids, fishing, music, and he played the harmonica

Jacob accepted the Lord as his personal Savior as a teenager. He was baptized upon his confession of faith and joined the Bethel Mennonite Church in Lustre. Years later when that church closed due to declining attendance he transferred his membership to the Mennonite Brethren Church in Lustre. After moving to Glasgow he enjoyed the fellowship of the Evangelical Church. He was actively involved in his church and community in various areas particularly in the music and teaching ministry as long as he was able.
