Mrs. Myra S. Pethel

KANNAPOLIS - Mrs. Myra Smith Pethel, 55, of 614 Fairview St., died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, at her home after several years of failing health.

Born Oct. 19, 1942, in Cabarrus County, she was the wife of Mr. W. Dale Pethel, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Carrie Lee Frye Smith, who survives, and the late Mr. Charles Grady Smith. She was a lifetime resident of Kannapolis and was a retired plant secretary with Linn-Corriher Corporation in Landis for 23 years. She was a Baptist.

Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother of Concord include a son, Mr. Tony Pethel of Kannapolis, who formerly attended Elon College; a daughter, Mrs. Suzie P. Wilson of Kannapolis; three brothers, Mr. Charles Ray Smith and Mr. Harold Smith, both of Raleigh, and Mr. Jeryl Smith of Mooresville; a sister, Mrs. Phyllis Black of Concord; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis by the Rev. Harry Ferguson. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3109 Poplarwood Court, Suite 125, Raleigh, N.C. 27604-1043.

Mr. George G. Reese

BURLINGTON - Mr. George G. 'Jake' Reese, 64, of Ingle Dairy Road, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Born Sept. 29, 1933, in Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Pearl Truitt Reese, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Clayton Reese and Mrs. Ida Elizabeth Thomas Reese, both deceased. He was retired from the maintenance department of Sam's Club. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Diane Brown of Asheville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Ruth Reese Ingle and Ms. Mae Reese Edwards; and four brothers, Mr. Robert L. Reese, Mr. Dewey G. Reese, Mr. Clyde W. Reese and Mr. Garland C. Reese.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1114 Magnolia St., Greensboro, N.C. 27401.

Mr. Gordon Miller Sr.

GRAHAM - Mr. Gordon Beryl Miller Sr., 62, of 2000 Yale Drive, died at 11:45p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center after two years of failing health, 10 weeks critical.

A native of Kittanning, Pa., he was the husband of Mrs. Barbara Zattosky Miller, who survives, and the son of Mr. Dallas Levi Miller and Mrs. Janet Marie Mowrey Miller, both deceased. He owned Gordon B. Miller Well Drilling.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Goulds Professional Dealers Association, the Pennsylvania Homebuilders Association and the North Carolina Groundwater Association.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include four daughters, Dr. Janet Marie Miller of Graham, Mrs. Shirley Miller Harris and Mrs. Patricia Miller Ortel, both of Durham, and Mrs. Donna Miller Rostant of Oak Hill, Va.; a son, Dr. Gordon B. Miller Jr. of Heidelberg, Germany; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy June Casker of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Olive Viola Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Marjorie R. Leach of Erie, Pa., and Miss Greta L. Miller of Dubois, Pa.; two brothers, Mr. Grant Dallas Miller of Pittsburg and Mr. Percy L. Miller of Erie; and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Alvin Somerville, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Keionis Thompson

BURLINGTON - Keionis Thompson, 18 months, of 209 Cates Ave., died at 11:18 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of two weeks.

A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Keith Thompson and Ms. Sharonda Crite, who both survive.

Survivors other than his parents include a sister, Miss Shaleena Crite of the home; two brothers, Mr. Kenyan Thompson and Mr. Keith Thompson Jr., both of Burlington; a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Clara C. Tyus; a paternal grandmother, Mrs. Sylvia Thompson of Burlington; a maternal grandfather, Mr. Vance Crite of Greensboro; a paternal grandfather, Mr. Connie Thompson of Washington, D.C.; a paternal stepgrandfather, Mr. James Cooper; a maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Willie Jean Crite Cooper of Reidsville; and a paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Annie Mae Tinnin of Mebane.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:45 a.m. today in Mebane Community cemetery by the Rev. Allen Warren.

Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rebecca Farlow

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Rebecca Clodfelter Farlow, 82, of 207 S. Gurney St., died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three years of failing health.

A native of Thomasville, she was the wife of the late Mr. Paul R. Farlow and the daughter of Mr. David Hamilton Clodfelter and Mrs. Hattie Mae Fitzgerald Clodfelter, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Hole in None Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Holly Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Mr. Steen Farlow of Mebane, Mr. Thomas Farlow and Mr. Stanley Freeman, both of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Ruthleen Whiteside of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Lester Haney, pastor of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. Steen Farlow, 2556 S. Jim Minor Road, Mebane.

Mrs. Bertha Mooneyham

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Bertha Tilley Mooneyham, 89, of 822 Washington St., died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, at her home.

A native of Durham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. George Belk Mooneyham and the daughter of Mr. Adolphus Linwood Tilley and Mrs. Mary Jane Copley Tilley, both deceased. She was the operator of My Lady Dress Shop in Durham. After moving to Burlington, she was employed by Burlington Industries Plaid Mill and a Burlington City School cafeteria. She was a member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Harold M. Mooneyham of Burlington; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. George B. Mooneyham Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Massey and Mrs. Ruby Ford; a sister, Mrs. Sudie T. Stevens; seven brothers, Mr. Arthur Tilley, Mr. Andrew Tilley, Mr. Phillip Tilley, Mr. Needham Tilley, Mr. Baxter Tilley, Mr. Felton Tilley and Mr. Linwood Tilley Jr.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lamar Mooneyham, pastor of The Tabernacle in Danville, Va., and the Rev. Morton Kurtz, pastor of Piedmont Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Vernie Burton

YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Vernie Hazel Willis Burton, 89, of 1654 Carrie Rest Home, Allison Road, Pelham, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997.

A native of Caswell County, she was born Jan. 26, 1908, the daughter of Mr. Robert Willis and Mrs. Eliza Willis, both deceased. She was a member of Graves Chapel Baptist Church, and a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Mr. Earl H. Burton of Philadelphia; one sister, Mrs. Allie Mae Tate of Yanceyville; and two grandchildren.

The funeal will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Graves Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home this evening from 7 to 8, and at other times at the home of the daughter-in-law at 672 Gun-Poole Road, Mebane.

Mr. Wade C. York

BURLINGTON - Mr. Wade Cullins York, 70, of 1549 W. Davis St., died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997 at his home after an illness of several months.

A native of Bellemont, he was the husband of Mrs. Alma Lee Carter York who survives, and the son of Mr. Fred Willons York and Mrs. Sophronia Randolph York, both deceased. He was a retired restaurant owner. He was a Mason and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of New Castle Baptist Church in New Castle, Del.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Linda Fliehman of East Lansing, Mich.; three sons, Mr. Wayde R. York of Sterling, Va., Mr. Ray A. York of Newark, Del. and Mr. Gary C. York of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Y. Lowe and Mrs. Helen Y. Kimbro, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Doris S. Longest of Elon College; three brothers, Mr. Elton Eugene York of Texas, Mr. Giles Lee York of Liberty and Mr. Morris Ray York of Charlotte; four half sisters, Mrs. Peggy Y. Dimont and Mrs. Sue Y. Emerson, both of Burlington, Mrs. Nancy Y. Dodson and Mrs. Sandra Y. Slaton, both of Mebane; three half brothers, Mr. Richard K. York, Mr. Fred W. York and Mr. Gerald D. York, all of Burlington; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Nadine York; and two brothers, Mr. Vance Robert York and Mr. Bobby Van York.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Brookwood Baptist Church by Dr. Garry Baldwin, pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.E.L. Moser, retired Methodist minister. Burial will be in Bellemont United Methodist Church cemetery.

The body will be at Lowe Funeral Home one hour before the service. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Mr. Gordon B. Miller

GRAHAM - Mr. Gordon Beryl Miller, 62, of 2000 Yale Drive, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center.

Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham is in charge of funeral arrangements which are incomplete.

Mr. Connelly P. Parker

ERWIN - Mr. Connelly Phelps Parker, 66, of Erwin, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997 at his home.

A native of Person County, he was the husband of Mrs. Anne Howell Parker who survives, and the son of Mr. Maynard Haywood Parker and Mrs. Kathleen Phelps Parker, both deceased. He had lived in the Dunn-Erwin area since 1972. He was president of Harnett Housing Center Inc. of Erwin, a member of Bingham Lodge 272 in Mebane and was a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. He was a trustee of Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

Survivors other than his wife include one son, Mr. C.P. Parker Jr. of Fayetteville; two sisters, Ms. Kathy Oakley of Cedar Grove and Ms. Jeanette Tapp of Stevensville, Md.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Melinda Parker Ward.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Erwin United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ken Hall. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Mount Zion Christian Church cemetery, Route 3, Mebane.

The family will be at Skinner Funeral Home in Dunn from 7 to 9 this evening.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund, Good Hope Hospital, P.O. Box 668, Erwin, N.C. 28339.

Mrs. Bertha Mooneyham

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Bertha Tilley Mooneyham of 822 Washington St., died at her home Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997.

Mr. Jake Reavis

GRAHAM ­ Mr. Jacob Lee "Jake" Reavis, 23, of 105 Holly Ridge Lane died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, due to injuries received in an automobile accident.

A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Ms. Rachel Laws, who survives. He was a computer specialist with Sentry Data Systems and attended Swepsonville United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than his mother of the home include a sister, Miss Leigh Reavis of the home; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Laws of Swepsonville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Randy Innes, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Elon College. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
