Mrs. Elizabeth D. Tilley

FUQUAY-VARINA -­ Mrs. Elizabeth Dale Tilley, 91, of 100 Pine St. died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997.

She was the wife of the late Mr. Ernest Tilley; and the daughter of Mr. J.W. Dale and Mrs. Emily Talley Dale, both deceased.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Jimmy Tilley of Fuquay-Varina; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Nancy) Reams of Burlington and Ms. Emilie Tilley of Virginia Beach, Va.; a three brothers, Mr. Robert Lee Dale, Mr. J.W. Dale Jr. and Mr. D.T. Dale; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Music Ministries of the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, 402 N. Main St., Fuquay-Varina, N.C. 27526.

Mr. James T. Miller

LEXINGTON -­ Mr. James Thomas Miller, 83, of 15 Eastside Drive, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at N.C. Baptist Hospital after a short illness.

Born Oct. 27, 1913, in Davidson County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Lee Swicegood Miller, who survives, and the son of Mr. Arthur William Miller and Mrs. Maude Edwards Miller, both deceased. He was retired from Seger Water Proofing Co. and was active in the Piedmont Education Foundation at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory and was a Life Center Volunteer. He was a member of Second United Church of Christ.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Robert W. Miller of Bulinron; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Arthur Miller Jr.; and three sisters, Ms. Sarah Miller Lanier, Ms. Dorris Miller Smith and Ms. Mary Miller Jones.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jerry Moore. Burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery.

The famiy will be at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Second United Church of Christ Building Fund, 330 N. Church St., Lexington, N.C. 27292; or to a charity of choice.

Mrs. Nannie F. Russell

CEDAR GROVE -­ Mrs. Nannie Fuller Russell, 97, of 5514 Pentecost Road died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Hillhaven Rest Home in Chapel Hill after several years of failing health.

A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Clyde Russell, and the daughter of Mrs. James "Jim" Fuller and Mrs. Sallie Vincent Fuller, both deceased. She was a member of White Level Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Raven R. Byers of Philadelphia; Mrs. Macie R. Flythe of Conway and Mrs. Magdaline R. Anthony of Washington, D.C.; five sons, Mr. Clyde Russell Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., Mr. Bennnie Russell of Philadelphia, Mr. Herman Russell of Reidsville; Mr. James Russell of Siler City and Mr. Gaddis Russell of Cedar Grove.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miles Chapel Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Snow Hill Church Cemetery.

The famiy will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Wednesday evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Lena C. James

MEBANE -­ Mrs. Lena Clarice James, 84, formerly of 103 W. Lee St., died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Presbyterian Home of of Hawfields.

Born Dec. 12, 1912, she was the wife of the late Mr. Woodrow W. James. She was retired from Rose's Department Stores after 30 years of employment.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Sandra) McCauely of Haw River; a brother, Mr. Archie Kenyohn of Mebane; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Oakwood cemetery in Mebane.

The family will be at Walker's Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at 1350 Jimmie Kerr Road, Haw River.

Mrs. Mary Ann Callahan

ASHEBORO -­ Mrs. Mary Ann Callahan, 91, of 543 Burney Road died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

A native of Surry County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Bill Callahan. She was a homemaker and a member of Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Charles Ray (Ilene) Marion of Seagrove, Mrs. Mack (Bonnie) McGee and Mrs. Henry Eddie (Venar) Jones, both of Burlington, Ms. Ada Perry of St. Paul, N.C., Mrs. Joseph (Sadie) Callahan of Henderson and Mrs. Kenneth (Mazie) Study of Siler City; two sons, Mr. William F. Callahan and Mr. Deanie R. Callahan, both of Cedar Grove; a sister, Mrs. Ada Frances "Fannie" Johnson of Booneville; a brother, Mr. William Brian Gillispie of Asheboro; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two infant daughters and one son, Mr. John Charles Callahan.

The funeral will be conducted at e p.m. Monday at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church in Dobson by the Rev. Willie Branch. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, from 7 to 9 this evening. The family will be at the church from 1 to 3 Monday before the service. At other times the family will be at the home of a son, Mr. William F. Callahan, 543 Burney Road, Asheboro.

Mr. Wade C. York

BURLINGTON - Mr. Wade Cullins York, 70, of 1549 W. Davis St., died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at home, after an illness of several months.

A native of Bellemont, he was the husband of Mrs. Alma Lee Carter York, who survives, and the son of Mr. Fred Willons York and Mrs. Sophronia Randolph York, both deceased. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a retired restaurant owner and a Mason. He was a member of New Castle Methodist Chruch in New Castle, Del.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Linda Flieshman of Lansing, Mich.; three sons, Mr. Wayde R. York of Sterling, Va., Mr. Ray A. York of Newark, Del. and Mr. Gary C. York of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Elise Y. Low and Mrs. Helen Y. Kimbro, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Doris S. Longest of Elon College; three brothers, Mr. Elotn Eugene York of Texas, Mr. Giles Lee York of Liberty and Mr. Morris Ray York of Charlotte; four half sisters, Mrs. Peggy Y. Dimont and Mrs. Sue Y. Emerson, both of Burlington, Mrs. Nancy Y. Dodson and Mrs. Sandra Y. Slaton. both of Mebane; three half brothers, Mr. Richard K. York, Mr. Fred W. York and Mr. Gerland D. York, all of Burlington; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Nadie York; and two brothers, Mr. Vance Robert York and Mr. Bobby Van York.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Brookwood Baptist Church by Dr. Garry Baldwin, pator. The body will be placed in the chruch one hour before the servcie. Burial will be in Untied Methodist Church cemetery.

The famiy will receive friends after the graveside service, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Kevin S. Cotton

HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Kevin S. Cotton, 21, of Cary, formerly of Hillsborough, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Rex Hospital.

Born Feb. 2, 1976, in Durham County, he was the son of Mr. Clifton Cotton and Mrs. Roxanne Dixon Cotton, who survive. He was a 1994 graduate of Organe High School, where he was in the band and on the basketball team. He attended Shaw University for two years and was enrolled in North Carolina Central University. He worked for Aacson Corp. in Research Triangle Park. He was a member of Grater Saint Paul Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his father of Durham, mother of New Jersey include a stepmother, Mrs. Lennix Ann Cotton of Hillsborough; two brothers, Mr. Keith Jerome Cotton of Carrboro and Mr. Calivn Eugene Dixon of Nashville, Tenn; two sisters, Ms. Corliss Renita White of Glenn Burnie, Md. and Ms. Eria Darcie White of Durham; a grandmother, Mr. Eliza P. Wilson of Hillsborough; and a grandfather, Mr. Curtis Lee Cotton Sr. of Chapel Hill.

He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Ms. Sylvia N. Cotton and a grandfather, Mr. Robert L. Wilson.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday at Great St. Paul Baptist Church in Durham by the Rev. William H. Heigh. Burial will be in Carrboro Town Cemetery.

The family will be at Chaivs-Parker Funeral HOem for 6 to 7:30 this evening.

Mr. Anthony J. Festa III

DURHAM - Mr. Anthony Joseph Festa "Tony" III, 47, of 2021 Chapel Hill Road died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, in Durham.

Born July 6, 1950, in Winston-Salem, he was the husband of Mrs. Jane Bahnson Festa, who survives, and the son of Mr. A.J. "Tony" Festa Jr. and Mrs. Dottie Cates Festa, both survive. He was a self-employed carpenter and landscaper.

Survivors other than his wife of Durham and parents of Semora include a daughter, Miss Hannah Festa of Durham; a son, Mr. Nicolas Festa of Durham; a brother, Mr. Kevin Festa of Deluth, Ga., and three sisters, Ms. Regina Festa Caspersen of Lee High Acres, Fla., Ms. Mary Festa Burton of Douglasville, Ga., and Ms. Linda Festa Orvis of Duluth.

The funeral was conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saints Mary and Edward Catholic Church in Roxboro by the Rev. Robert Staley. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Honory pallbearers were member of Saints Meay and Edward Catholic Church.

The family was at Brooks and White Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Friday evening, and a mass service was conducted at 8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Sains Mary and Edward Catholic Church Building Fund, 615 N. Main St., Roxboro, N.C. 27573.

Mrs. Ruby C. Ayers

MEBANE - Mrs. Ruby Crowder Ayers, 72, of 1146 Gibson Road died at 7:05 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh after six weeks of failing health, two weeks critical.

A native of Austinville, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. James E. Ayers, and the daughter of Mr. James Matthew Crowder and Mrs. Emer Graham Crowder, both deceased. She was a snack bar manager at Alamance Community College and was a member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church

Survivors include six sisters, Miss Willie Crowder and Mrs. Nancy Ann Whitfield, both of Mebane, Mrs. Mary Murphy and Mrs. Jane Williamson, both of Graham, and Mrs. Jean Wilson of Gibsonville; and a brother, the Rev. Rick Crowder.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Hawfields Presbyterian Church, by Dr. Angus W. McGregor, interim pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 2 to 4 this afternoon, and at other times at the home of a sister, Mrs. Jean Wilson, 516 Cummings St., Gibsonville.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, 2502 N.C. 119 South, Mebane, N.C. 27302.

Mr. James A. King Jr.

REIDSVILLE - Mr. James A. King Jr., 63, of 3016 Iron Works Road died Thursday morning, Oct. 16, 1997, at his home.

A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Frances W. King, who survives, and the son of Mr. James A. King Sr. and Mrs. Elon Nelson King, both deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. James A. King III of Reidsville; two daughters, Ms. Donna K. Lawson and Ms. Teresa K. Branch, both of Reidsville; a brother, Mr. Thomas Worley King of China Grove; six grandchildren; and other relatives in the Burlington area.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Nelson King.

The funeral was conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sharon Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The famiy was at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 Friday evening.

Memorials may be made to Sharon Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 3540 Iron Works Road, Reidsville, N.C. 27320.
