Mr. Jim Overbey Jr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. William “Jim” Newton Overbey Jr., 66, of 520 Robertson St., died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Durham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Glenda Norris Overbey, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Newton Overbey Sr. and Mrs. Annie Parrish Overbey, both deceased. He was retired from Copland Fabrics and was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church, where he was a church trustee.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Ellen Reid and Mrs. Robin Leonard, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Linda Ferguson of Liberty; two sons, Mr. Dennis Overbey and Mr. Dana Overbey, both of Burlington; four sisters, Mrs. Sadie Hall, Mrs. Frances Saunders and Mrs. Jean Hunhdley, all of Burlington, and Mrs. Pat McGhee of Durham; a brother, Mr. Herman Overbey of Graham; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Marie Moffitt.
McClure Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Mary H. Cook
GRAHAM - Mrs. Mary Holsonback Cook, 85, of 607 Mendel Terrace, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after a one-week illness.
A native of Durham County, she was the wife of Mr. Broady Cook who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Paul Holsonback and Mrs. Lilly Mae Roberts Holsonback, both deceased. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Riverview United Methodist Church in Durham County. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Gale Cook Kuznicki of Coca Beach, Fla., Mrs. Judy Cook Coleman of Burlington and Mrs. Alicia Cook Giardino of Clearwater, Fla.; one son, Mr. John T. Cook of Mebane; three sisters, Mrs. Roberta Douglas of Haw River, Mrs. Nan Perreira of Greensboro and Mrs. Jo Ann Latham of Graham; three brothers, Mr. James L. Holsonback, Mr. Calvin A. Holsonback and Mr. Jack F. Holsonback, all of Burlington; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Vicki Cook Johnson; and a sister, Mrs. Edna Thompson.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Scott Watford. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Mr. Dennis G. Walker
BURLINGTON - Mr. Dennis Gerald Walker, 43, of 6043 N.C. 49 South, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Friendship-Patterson Mill Road in Burlington of injuries received in an automobile accident.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Teresa Hyder Walker who survives, and the son of Mrs. Esther Way Walker of Burlington and the late Mr. Calvin Walker. He was employed by Keck Construction Co. as a carpenter, and attended Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and his mother include two sons, Mr. Scott Clinton Walker of Haw River and Mr. Jordan Hunter Walker of the home; and a sister, Mrs. Loretta Walker Rose of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church by Dr. Charles Adams, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening, and at other times, at the home of the sister, Mrs. Loretta W. Rose, 510 Jones St., Burlington, and at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Patty Hyder, 1442 Morningside Drive, Burlington.

Mr. Eugene McDonald Sr.
REIDSVILLE - Mr. Eugene James “Jim” McDonald Sr., 65, of 138 McChardy Court, died early Sunday morning, Oct. 4, 1998, at Annie Penn Hospital.
A native of Reidsville, he was the husband of Mrs. Judy McDonald who survives. He was retired after 38 years as a pharmacist, and was a member of the University of North Carolina Alumni Association and a member of the N.C. Pharmaceutical Association. He was a member of the Reidsville Elks Lodge, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Eugene James McDonald Jr. of Reidsville and Mr. Enos Carl McDonald of Graham; one daughter, Ms. Lillianne Floyd of Raleigh; one stepdaughter, Ms. Carmen Brown of New Bern; three sisters, Ms. Genie Reynolds of Winston-Salem, Ms. Anna Clark Stallings of Charlotte and Ms. Hilda Wagoner of Eden; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenview Cemetery.
The family will be at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Mount Olive College Vivian B. Harrison Memorial Fund, 634 Henderson Drive, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.

Mrs. Mary D. Amick
MEBANE - Mrs. Mary Dixon Carter Amick, 83, a lifelong resident of Mebane, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Carroll Amick, and the daughter of Mr. Thomas Clifford Carter and Mrs. Lucy Dixon Carter, both deceased. She was a retired self-employed beautician, and a member of Mebane United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Judith Amick Rucker of Durham; one son, Mr. William Thomas Amick of Yardley, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Carter Jordan of Saxapahaw; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Luis Reinoso.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday before the service.

Mrs. Brenda R. Miller
RALEIGH - Mrs. Brenda Reynolds Miller, 52, of 1908 Thorpshire Drive, died at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh after a 10-day illness.
Born in Alamance County Nov. 9, 1945, she was the wife of Mr. Charles S. Miller who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Gilmer Reynolds and Mrs. Bernice Tester Reynolds, both of Burlington. She was employed by The Junior League of Raleigh as an accountant.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and her parents include two brothers, Mr. Don Reynolds of Burlington and Mr. Carley Reynolds of Greensboro.
McClure Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.

Mr. Gerald McMahan
LINCOLNTON - Mr. Gerald Louis McMahan, 12, of 1450 Poston Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. Louis McMahan and Mrs. Sandra Forbis McMahan of the home; one brother, Mr. Wesley McMahan of the home; grandparents, Mr. Gerald Thompson and Mrs. Geraldine Thompson of Gallager Trails; Ms. Louise McMahan of Gastonia; great-grandmother, Ms. Myrtle Whisenant of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Cyrus Frazier. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 this evening.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Mrs. Edith L. Lynch
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Edith Arlena Layman Lynch, 80, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the home of her daughter.
Born May 30, 1918, she was the wife of the late Mr. Daniel Lynch, and the daughter of Mr. John Lambert and Mrs. Julia Mae Ramsey Lambert, both deceased. She was a member of Eastway Baptist Church, and was retired from Nabisco Co. in Hawthorne, N.J.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alexander (Fay) Vinnikov and Mrs. Don Ray (Kay) Lee, both of Charlotte; a brother, Mr. Kyle Lambert of Kissimmee, Fla; two sisters, Ms. Estelee Perry and Ms. Imogene Lambert, both of Burlington; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eastway Baptist Church by the Dr. Bob L. L. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
The family will be at McEwen Funeral Home, Charlotte Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

Mr. Carroll A. Whitesell
BURLINGTON - Mr. Carroll Alexander Whitesell, 68, of 1260 Whitesell Farm Lane, died at 10:22 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Anita L. Whitesell who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert F. Whitesell and Mrs. Dora McPherson Whitesell, both deceased. He was retired from Western Electric and a member of St. Mark’s Reformed Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two brothers, Mr. Franklin D. Whitesell and Mr. Larry Webster Whitesell, both of Burlington; four sisters, Mrs. Boyd (Eloise) McPherson of Snow Camp, Mrs. Robert (Mary) King, Mrs. Sam (Nancy) Finley and Mrs. Jerry (Joan) Barbee, all of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Jacob C. Whitesell and Mr. Robert L. Whitesell.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark’s Reformed Church by the Rev. Robert M. Disher, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Reformed Church Building Fund, 1230 St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Mrs. Helen Blanchard
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Helen Fitch Blanchard, 91, of 3853 Blanchard Road, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of four days.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William James Blanchard, and the daughter of Mr. John Preston Fitch and Mrs. Byrd Florence Fitch. She was a homemaker, and a member of Bethel United Church of Christ and the Elizabeth Fitch Circle of the church.
Survivors include four sons, Mr. James E. Blanchard and Mr. Thomas P. Blanchard, both of Burlington, Mr. William Fitch Blanchard of Mebane and Mr. Joe Dean Blanchard of Florence, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Daussie Harrelson and Mrs. Nellie Vincent, both of Burlington; one brother, Mr. T. Russell Fitch of Burlington; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Bethel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Paul Stennett, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Mr. James Blanchard, 4021 Blanchard Road, Burlington.
Memorials may be made to Bethel United Church of Christ, 595 Baynes Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.

Mr. Dallas Horne
DURHAM - Mr. Dallas McLendon Horne, 75, of 6121 Dellow St., died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at his home after nine months of failing health. He was a former resident of Burlington.
A native of Durham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Frances Turner Horne who survives, and the son of Mr. James M. Horne and Mrs. Donie Fisher Horne, both deceased. He was retired from Tire King in Durham, and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include one son, Mr. Jerry Lane Horne of Durham; one sister, Mrs. Erma Gallomore of Denton; three brothers, Mr. Donald Hornd and Mr. Sam Horne, both of Burlington, and Mr. Harold Horne of Graham; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington with burial in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening.
