Mrs. Jane B. Barker
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Jane Eleanor Butchart Barker, 71, of 2909 Armfield Ave., died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Detroit, she was the wife of the late Mr. Milton T. Barker, and the daughter of Mr. William Alfred Butchart and Mrs. Roxie McCullough Butchart. She was formerly employed by Arby’s of Burlington as a hostess. She was a Methodist and actively involved at The Oaks.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Pamela B. Caviness of Thomasville, Mrs. Patti B. Alderman of Elon College and Mrs. Sherri B. Stout of Randleman; a son, Mr. James Barker of High Point; a brother, Mr. Don Butchart of Mount Clemmons, Mich.; five grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Todd Milton Barker.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at The Oaks by the Rev. Tommy Gregory, pastor of Light of the World Ministries. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park in High Point.
There will be no visitation. The family will be at the home.
Memorials may be made to The Oaks, 1670 Westbrook Ave., Burlington, N.C. 27215.
Lowe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Brenda A. Holt
BURLINGTON - Ms. Brenda Annette Holt of 320 Holt St., died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
She was the daughter of Ms. Sherdina Holt.
Sharpe Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mr. Saunders Thomas
BURLINGTON - Mr. Saunders Eugene Thomas of 1607 Morgantown Road, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Doretha Matkins Thomas, who survives, and the son of the late Mrs. Katie Albright Graves. He was an assemblyman at General Motors, Tarrytown, N.Y., and a member of the Elks Lodge in Greensboro.
Survivors include his wife of the home.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Sharpe Memorial Chapel by Dr. Richard W. Styles, pastor of First Baptist Church, Apple Street. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel 30 minutes before the service, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Betty W. Page
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Betty Wrenn Page, 76, of 159 W. Old Glencoe Road, died at 6:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Robert L. Page, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Thomas Wrenn and Mrs. Edna Morris Wrenn, both deceased. She was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Allen Lee Page.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Glencoe Baptist Church by the Rev. Darrell Massey, pastor, the Rev. Ken Hopkins and the Rev. Felton Massey, both former pastors, and the Rev. Rainey Qualls, pastor of Landmark Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 5 to 7 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Helen Blanchard
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Helen Fitch Blanchard, 91, of 3853 Blanchard Road, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of four days.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William James Blanchard, and the daughter of Mr. John Preston Fitch and Mrs. Byrd Florence Fitch, both deceased. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Elizabeth Fitch Circle.
Survivors include four sons, Mr. James E. Blanchard and Mr. Thomas T. Blanchard, both of Burlington, Mr. William Fitch Blanchard of Mebane and Mr. Joe Dean Blanchard of Florence, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Harrelson and Mrs. Nellie Benson, both of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Thomas Fitch of Burlington; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Paul Stennett, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. James Blanchard, 4021 Blanchard Road, Burlington.
Memorials may be made to Bethel United Church of Christ, 595 Baynes Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.

Mrs. Sally B. Morton
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Sally Bell Morton, 64, of 714 Center Ave., died at 3:32 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Curtis Morton, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Lee Sellars and Ms. Amanda Williamson, both deceased. She was a dry cleaner and a member of Sweetgum Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Mebane.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Ms. Barbara J. Harris of Burlington, Ms. Sallie Isabelle Bigelow of Elon College and Ms. Linda F. Bigelow of Alexandria, Va.; three sons, Mr. Willie E. Bigelow and Mr. George L. Bigelow, both of Burlington, and Mr. Claude H. Bigelow of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sisters, Ms. Martha Sellars of Brooklyn, Mrs. Beatrice Fuller of Burlington and Mrs. Madeline Fults of Hampton, Va.; two brothers, Mr. James Sellars of Burlington and Mr. Eddie Sellars of Rockaway, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Vanessa Bigelow; a son, Mr. Fredrick Bigelow; a sister, Ms. Lula Mae Sellars; and a brother, Mr. Rufus Sellars.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sweetgum Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. James Tinnin, interim pastor, and the Rev. McArthur Pettiford. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Blackwell Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 7 this evening.

Mrs. Catherine Woods
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Catherine Thomas Woods, 43, of 710 Plaid St., died at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Gloris Ray, who survives, and the late Mr. Louis Thomas. She was employed by the C.T. Nassau Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Eden.
Survivors other than her mother of Burlington include a stepfather, Mr. Connie L. Slade of Burlington; a daughter, Miss Tamikca Woods of Burlington; a son, Mr. Freddie Woods of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Regina Coleman and Miss Debbie Woods, both of Burlington, and Ms. Connie Faye Slade of Alabama; a brother, Sgt. 1st Class William C. Slade of Fort Bragg; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Herman Long, pastor of Miracle Temple Holiness Church. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Bess B. Smedberg
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Bess Bingham Smedberg, 76, of 517 Circle Drive, died at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at her home.
A native of Hazard, Ky., she was the wife of the late Dr. George A. Smedberg, and the daughter of Mr. Taylor Gilbert Bingham and Mrs. Sallie Ann Roberts Bingham, both deceased. She was a registered nurse and a member of the Alamance-Caswell Medical Auxiliary and the Alamance Hospice League. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile and in the community. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington.
Survivors include four sons, Mr. Carl Taylor Smedberg of West Melbourne, Fla., Mr. George Andrew Smedberg Jr. of Atlanta, Mr. Benjamin Bingham Smedberg of Brewster, Mass., and Mr. David Gilbert Smedberg of Greensboro; three sisters, Mrs. Opal Bingham Cook of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Jane Wilkerson of Raleigh and Mrs. Kitty Croley of Atlanta; a brother, Mr. David Bingham of Lousiville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Craig McMahan, pastor of First Baptist Church of Burlington. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 1 to 2 Saturday afternoon, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Pearl T. Wood
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Pearl Thomas Wood, 88, of 2011 S. Mebane St., died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of two days.
A native of Davidson County, she was the wife of Mr. Kenneth Wood, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Ivey Glen Thomas and Mrs. Ella Lee Thomas, both deceased. She was a former member of the Good Morning Home Demonstration Club and was formerly active with an area garden club. A member of Front Street United Methodist Church since 1938, she was a member of the Workers Sunday School Class, active in the United Methodist Women and a member of the Methodist Citizens Organization.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a son, Mr. Wallace K. “Wally” Wood Jr. of Graham; a brother, Mr. Charlie Thomas of Thomasville; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Janice Marie Wood; four sisters; and four brothers.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Front Street United Methodist Church by Dr. William C. Simpson, senior pastor, and the Rev. Duke Lackey, assistant pastor. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Thomasville.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Charles B. Truitt
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. Charles Bernard Truitt, 63, of 1961-A Power Line Road, died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after 5½ years of failing health.
A native of Villa Rica, Ga., he was the husband of Mrs. Doretha Allred Truitt, who survives, and the son of Mr. Marvin Truitt and Mrs. Oren Adams Truitt, both deceased. He was a carpenter and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Susan Vinson and Ms. Lucy Keaton, both of Carrollton, Ga.; three sons, Mr. Steve Keaton of Carrollton, Mr. Dan Truitt of Gibsonville and Mr. Rodney Truitt of Burlington; six sisters, Mrs. Hazel Bivins of Jonesboro, Ga., Mrs. Hellen Dobbs of Villa Rica, Mrs. Elizabeth Bearden of Temple, Ga., and Mrs. Ruth Hanson, Mrs. Betty Phillips and Mrs. Sandra Wilburn, all of Carrollton; two brothers, Mr. Roy Truitt and Mr. John Truitt, both of Carrollton; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Hobbs, pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 9 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Allie W. Tate
YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Allie Mae Willis Tate, 85, of 173 Ninth Ave., died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at the home of her daughter, 900 Top Knot Road, Yanceyville.
Born March 29, 1913, in Caswell County, she was the wife of the Rev. William Tate, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Robert Lee Willis and Mrs. Eliza V. Graves Willis, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Graves Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Melvin Tate Johnson; two sons, Mr. Robert Hestor Tate of Yanceyville and Mr. William Clifton Tate of Danville, Va.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Graves Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Floyd Corbett and the Rev. Kenneth Walker. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter.
