Mrs. Alta W. Delp

SWEPSONVILLE - Mrs. Alta Whitaker Delp, 92, of 2839 Swepsonville-Saxapahaw Road died at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Tazewell Co., Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Dera Huse Delp, and the daughter of Mr. Hufford Whitaker and Mrs. Fannie Altizer Whitaker, both deceased. She was the retired owner of Delp's Barbecue and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Odessa D. Clifton of Germanton, Miss Barbara Delp and Mrs. Deria D. Isley, both of Swepsonville, and Mrs. Shirley D. Murray of Salt Lake City; a brother, Mr. James Whitaker of Mount Hope, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by Mr. Henry Johnson, Kingdom Hall of Burlington. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 2 to 4 Sunday afternoon and at other times at the home.

Mr. Henry J. Snipes

BURLINGTON - Mr. Henry J. 'Red' Snipes, 79, of 150 Oliver Lane died at midnight, Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at the Hospice Home of Burlington after six months of failing health, three weeks critical.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Omie Page Snipes, who survives, and the son of Mr. Jeter T. Snipes and Mrs. Ruth Godfrey Snipes, both deceased. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a retired painting contractor. He was a former member of the Lakeview Civitan Club and was a charter member of Lakeview Community United Church of Christ, where he was a former deacon and treasurer for many years.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Arlene Snipes Lassiter of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Allen Snipes of Burlington and Mr. Otto Snipes of Greensboro; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Anita Snipes Rich; and six brothers.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Lakeview Community United Church of Christ by the Rev. Reid Dickens, pastor, and the Rev. Curtis Oakley. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Lakeview Community United Church of Christ from 6 to 8 Sunday evening and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122; or to the Building Fund of Lakeview Community United Church of Christ, 101 Boone Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.

Mr. Lynn B. Dees

RAEFORD - Mr. Lynn Berry Dees, 74, died Saturday morning, Nov. 8, 1997, at the First-Health of the Carolina's in Pinehurst.

Born March 26, 1923, in Hoke County, he was the husband of Mrs. Catherine McMillan Dees, who survives, and the son of Mr. George Dees and Mrs. Ottie Mae Long Dees, both deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a past master of the Raeford Masonic Lodge No. 306. He was retired from the Civil Service and was a member of Rockfish Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of Rockfish include two daughters, Mrs. Brown (Kay) Hendrix Jr. of Raeford and Mrs. Donald (Ann) King of Graham; a brother, Mr. Harold E. Dees of Hope Mills; one sister, Ms. Etta Meismer of Rockfish; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Rockfish Tabernacle Baptist Church by the Rev. John Robinson and the Rev. Jimmy Dees. Burial with Masonic rites will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford from 5:30 to 7:30 Sunday evening.

Mrs. Patsy G. Willard

GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Patsy Louise Gillispie Willard, 63, of Terry's In Care Home in Caswell County died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Pittsylvania Co., Va., she was the daughter of Mr. Robert Worth Gillispie and Mrs. Carrie Lee Evans Gillispie, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Edgar Worth Hunnicutt of Castleberry, Fla., and Mr. Michael Landon Chapman of Visco; a brother, Mr. Raymond Lee Gillispie of Lancaster, S.C.; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Marie Smithey of Gibsonville; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Robert Worth Gillispie and Mr. Hugh William Gillispie; and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Ann Dixon.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at Bartlett Funeral Home in Gibsonville from 7 to 9 Sunday evening and at other times at the home of the sister, Mrs. Gladys Marie Smithey, 7046 Kivett House Road, Gibsonville.

Mr. George F. Moffitt

PLEASANT GARDEN - Mr. George Freeman Moffitt, 77, of 2020 Neelley Road died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 25, 1920, in Chatham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Marie Moffitt, who died in 1987. He was the son of Mr. Braudy Moffitt and Mrs. Mamie Lloyd Moffitt, both deceased. He was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Co. and was a member of American Legion Post No. 53. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Betty) Oldham of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Tom (Aubrey) Benson of St. Louis; a brother, Mr. Braudy F. Moffitt Jr. of Greensboro; and other relatives of Burlington.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will be at the home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Forbis and Dick, North Elm Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charles Wellons

ALAMANCE - Mr. Charles Wellons, 70, of 2957 Elder Lane died at 1:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Nellie H. Whitt

ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Nellie Hall Whitt, 60, of 2023 Gibsonville-Ossipee Road, died at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three years of failing health, four months critical.

A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Silas Monroe Whitt, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Sie Sylvester Hall, who survives, and the late Mrs. Hettie Mae Barker Hall. She was retired from Annedeen Hosiery and a was member of Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors other than her husband of the home and father of Burlington include four sisters, Mrs. Mary Wilson of Burlington, Mrs. Ellen Wilson of Reidsville, Mrs. Kathleen Harden of Mebane and Mrs. Shirley Schutte of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a brother, Mr. Roy Hall of Mebane.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Doris Edward and Mrs. Sarah Lewis; and a brother, Mr. James Douglas Hall.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home by the Rev. Frank Thacker, pastor of Victory Baptist Church and the Rev. Howard Thompson, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Walter G. Kueider

MEBANE - Mr. Walter George 'Wally' Kueider, 73, of 524 N. Carr St., died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at his home after six months of failing health.

Born May 19, 1924, in Jessup, Pa., he was the husband of Mrs. Peg Kueider, who survives, and the son of Mr. Anthony Kueider and Mrs. Nell Kueider, both deceased. He was retired from Bodische Corp. and Associated Transport and a member of Mebane United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the Bingham Lodge No. 272. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he served as quartermaster for several years, and the American Legion. He was a member of the Hillsborough Moose Lodge No. 1893.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include four sons, Mr. Michael Kueider and Mr. Steve Kueider, both of Mebane, Mr. Scott Kueider of Oak Ridge and Mr. Jim Kueider of Raleigh; a daughter, Ms. Peggy McCoy of Monroe; a brother, Mr. John Kueider of Waterbury, Conn.; two sisters, Ms. Mary Widenor of Inverness, Fla., and Ms. Nell Meding of West Chester, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Mebane United Methodist Church by the Rev. Al Trotter. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 8:30 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. James W. Freeland

BURLINGTON - Mr. James W. Freeland of 507 Everette St., died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Phyllis B. Porter

JEFFERSON - Mrs. Phyllis Buettner Porter, 79, formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at Ashe Living Center in Jefferson.

Born April 4, 1918, in Columbia, Pa., she was the daughter of Mr. Paul Joseph Buettner and Mrs. Edith Elizabeth Myers, both deceased. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Dalton Porter of West Jefferson and Mr. Len Porter of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Ms. Thelma Skrzypice of Marietta, Pa. and Ms. Violet Erb of Reading, Pa.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Boone Funeral Chapel in West Jefferson by the Rev. Bill Ballou and the Rev. Julian Owen. Burial will be in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson.

The family will be at Boone Family Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mr. Cecil W. Caulder

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Cecil Wallace Caulder, 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997.

Born Oct. 8, 1921, in Burlington, he was the husband of Mrs. Jo Ann Caulder, who survives, and the son of Mr. Joseph Caulder Sr. and Mrs. Nora Wrenn Caulder, both deceased. He attended schools in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School. He was employed with Burlington Industries and the Burlington Chevrolet Dealership. He moved to Charlotte in 1963 and retired from Contractor Service and Rental in 1983. He was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, where he was Secretary of his Sunday school department. He was a deacon and served on many committees. He was a cook at Camp Ridgecrest for 23 years. He went on mission trips with the N.C. Baptist Men to Togo, Africa and Warsaw, Poland.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include four sons, Mr. Stephen Caulder, and Mr. Benjamin Caulder, both of Surfside Beach, S.C., Mr. David Caulder of Mount Holly, and Mr. Barry Caulder of Sweet Home, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Ms. Libby Puckett of the home; a stepson, Mr. Tony Pagan of Macon, Ga.; a sister, Ms. Edith Miles of Haw River; a brother, Mr. J.B. Caulder of Durham; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Betty C. Hogan.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Dixon Free, the Rev. Stan Heiser, the Rev. Stanley Spence and the Rev. Hal Shoemaker. Burial will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

The family will be at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel from 7 to 9 this evening.

Memorials may be made to Bill Gupton Mission Fund, Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 S. Blvd., Charlotte, N.C. 28203 or to the charity of choice.
