Ms. Juanita Birmingham

BAHAMA - Ms. Juanita La Rue Birmingham, 70, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, after a short illness.

A native of Greensboro, she was the daughter of Mr. Clarence Hilton Miles and Mrs. Jessie Cates Miles, both deceased. She lived most of her life in Durham. She was a real-estate broker, volunteered with the Durham Rescue Mission and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member Mount Sylvan United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was chairwoman of the reading committee for Mount Bethel United Methodist Women.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. George W. Birmingham III of Huntersville and Mr. Richard Andrew Birmingham of Hillsborough; two daughters, Ms. Lorraine Faith Birmingham of Raleigh and Ms. Patricia B. Farlow of Bahama; a sister, Ms. Frances M. Woody of Durham; a brother, Mr. Norman R. Miles of Durham; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. they called with this change Friday at Mount Sylvan United Methodist Church by Dr. Robert O'Keef. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will be at Clements Funeral Home in Durham from 7 to 9 Thursday evening, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Ms. Pat Farlow, 8821 Ball Road, Bahama.

Memorials may be made to Mount Sylvan United Methodist Church, 5731 N. Roxboro Road, Durham, N.C. 27712; or to the United Methodist Women of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 27, Bahama, N.C. 27503.

Mr. James C. Ray

HAW RIVER - Mr. James Carl Ray, 81, of 210 Ferris St., died at 6:39 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Nell Thompson Ray, who survives, and the son of Mr. Crawford M. Ray and Mrs. Nancy Hughes Ray, both deceased. He was retired from Cone Mills after 45 years of service. He was a member of Haw River United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class, the United Methodist Men and the Administrative Council.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Jerry 'Duke' Ray and Mr. Danny Ray, both of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Kathryn Roney of Haw River; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Mr. Haywood Ray, Mr. Ben Ray, Mr. Clyde Ray and Mr. Crawford Ray.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Haw River United Methodist Church by Dr. Roderic L. Mullen, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Entombment will be in the mausoleum of Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Margie H. Hall

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Margie Lynne Hinkle Hall, 31, of 115 Tucker St., died at 7:35 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at her home after four years of failing health, two weeks critical.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. John Edward Hall Sr., who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Jerry Mallow Hinkle and Mrs. Virginia Sue Hinkle Durham, who both survive. She was a homemaker and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors other than her husband of the home, mother of Gibsonville and father of Burlington include a daughter, Miss Kelly Brooke Hall of the home; a son, Mr. John Edward Hall Jr. of the home; a stepfather, Mr. Jerry Durham of Gibsonville; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Louise Fargis of Swepsonville and Mrs. Mary Angelia 'Angel' Sikes of Graham; a brother, Mr. Jerry Wayne Hinkle of Elon College; a stepsister, Mrs. Rita Parsons of Elon College; and a foster grandmother, Mrs. Lula Rorer of the home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church by the Rev. Norman F. Fargis Sr., pastor, and the Rev. Thomas Fargis, associate pastor. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Abner R. Miles

BURLINGTON - Mr. Abner Riddell 'A.B.' Miles, 87, of 111 Maple Ave., formerly of Stoney Creek Church Road, died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of three days.

A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Adelaide H. Miles and the late Mrs. Irene G. Miles. He was the son of Mr. Felix Samuel Miles and Mrs. Lottie White Miles, both deceased. He was retired from Sykes Foundry Company and a member of First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Victor (Nola Miles) Seamon of Burlington and Mrs. Richard (Jackie Miles) Powell of Atlantic Beach; two brothers, Mr. Sam E. Miles of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., and Mr. Erle W. Miles of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Genevieve Miles Dalton.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Tim Robinson, pastor, and the Rev. Peter Kemeny, associate pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Nola Seamon, 2115 Crosby Drive, Burlington.

Mr. Richard Isley Jr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Richard F. Isley Jr., 76, of Burlington Care Center, 2201 Burch Bridge Road, died at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at Burlington Care Center after three years of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Sarah Cross Isley and the son of Mrs. Vivian Foster Isley, who survives, and the late Mr. Richard Freeman Isley Sr. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II and was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Survivors other than his mother of Burlington include a son, Mr. Jerry Isley of Elon College; three sisters, Mrs. John W. (Luona) Burwell Jr. of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Hughes J. (Avril) Rhodes Jr. of Burlington and Mrs. Arnold H. (Helen) Ward of Roanoke, Va.; two brothers, Mr. Harold V. Isley of Burlington and Mr. Donald W. Isley of Palm City, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

The family will be at the home of the son, Mr. Jerry Isley, 304 Courtland Drive, Elon College, this evening.

Mrs. Alice R. Miller

GREENSBORO - Mrs. Alice Reisert Miller, 90, of Mayfield Nursing Center, died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at High Point Hospital.

She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Y-Matrons.

Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Mary Alice Squires of Greensboro and Ms. Jeri Johnson of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Rodney Miller of Mount Gilead and Mr. Ernest W. Miller of Greensboro; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clarence Christmas

CAMDEN, S.C. - Mr. Clarence E. Christmas, 84, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997.

A native of Camden, he was the husband of Mrs. Ethelyn Corbett Christmas, who survives, and the son of Mr. James Edward Christmas and Mrs. Beulah Price Christmas, both deceased. He was a graduate of Camden High School. He was a World War II veteran and served in the European Theatre. He was retired from DuPont. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was a member of James Leroy Belk Post No. 17 of the American Legion.

Survivors other than his wife of Camden include a son, Mr. C. Edward Christmas Jr. of Burlington; three sisters, Ms. Ruth Marshall, Ms. Lelia Bell West and Ms. Wilma Rowell, all of Camden; two brothers, Mr. Alvin Christmas and Mr. Joe Christmas, both of Camden.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Quaker Cemetery.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1201 Broad St., Camden, S.C. 29020.

Mr. W. Russell Simpson

ELON COLLEGE - Mr. William Russell Simpson, 83, of 3350 Altamahaw Race Track Road, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, at his home.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Dorothy Jordan Simpson and the son of Mr. Monroe Simpson and Mrs. Hannah Kivett Simpson, both deceased. He was a farmer in Altamahaw.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Larry Alton Simpson of Elon College; three daughters, Mrs. Jay (Ruby Dale) Pass of Swepsonville, Mrs. Carroll (Margie) Ward and Mrs. Billy (Sandra) Hawkins, both of Burlington; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-stepgrandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Bethlehem Christian Church cemetery by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church.

The family will be at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Margie Ward, 2703 Cardwell Drive, Burlington.

Lowe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marietta J. Blanks

RICHMOND, Va. - Mrs. Marietta Jones Blanks, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997.

She was the wife of the late Mr. James Claude Blanks.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Joseph V. Blanks Sr. of Graham; a sister, Ms. Kathleen Edwards of Richmond; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Westview cemetery in Thomson, Ga.

The Cremation Society of Virginia is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Theodore Randolph Sr.

OSSIPEE - Mr. Theodore R. Randolph Sr., 80, of 3318 Holy Church Road, died at 6:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Philadelphia, he was the husband of Mrs. Daisy Freeland Randolph, who survives, and the son of Mr. Abram Randolph and Mrs. Martha Thomas Randolph, both deceased. He was retired from Sears and Roebuck Company. He was a former member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church of Reidsville and a recent member of Mack's Chapel United Holy Church of Altamahaw.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Gladys V.) King of Aurora, Colo., and Mrs. Melvin (Mattie E.) Dick of Whitsett; six sons, Mr. Theodore R. Randolph Jr. of Reidsville, Mr. Leonard Randolph of Haw River, Lt. Eugene E. Randolph, Mr. Earl K. Randolph and Mr. Herbert E. Randolph, all of Greensboro, and Mr. Timothy L. Randolph of Landover, Md.; a sister, Miss Laura Randolph of Browns Summit; 26 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Sgt. Roy H. Randolph and Mr. James E. Randolph; a sister, Ms. Elizabeth Randolph; and a brother, Mr. A.B. Randolph.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mack's Chapel United Holy Church in Altamahaw by the Rev. Milton Rogers, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening.
