Mr. Charles McMillan Jr.
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. Charles M. McMillan Jr., 77, of 1315 Gibsonville-Ossipee Road, died at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Scotland County, he was the husband of Mrs. Annie Kate Troxler Huffines McMillan, who survives, and the son of Mr. Charles Monroe McMillan Sr., and Mrs. Mary Thomas Sizemore McMillan, both deceased. He was a 1939 graduate of Wegram High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in commerce with a major in accounting in 1946, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was valedictorian.
He was a certified public accountant. He was a junior partner with Walter Owen; former C.P.A. with Hogan, McMillan and Hendersron for 22 years; then served as treasurer of several corporations with the Hugh Sharpe Enterprises; and later owned McMillan Cafeteria, which is now Apple House Cafeteria, with his wife. He retired in February 1996.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and served as a lieutenant with the 8th Air Force in England and as a 1st Pilot on a B-17 bomber. He was a member of the Burlington Kiwanis Club, and of First Baptist Church of Burlington since 1946.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Vickie Anne Whitlow of Elon College; a son, Mr. Kelly Dean McMillan of Charlotte; seven sisters, Miss Ruth McMillan of Fayetteville, Mrs. Henry (Nancy) McGinn of Punta Gorda, Fla., Mrs. Clyde (Mildred) Kelly of Havre De Grace, Md., Mrs. Cuyler (Martha) Hennecy of Hamlett, Mrs. David (Dorothy) Lane of Surfside Beach, S.C., Mrs. Vernon (Hattie) Leggett of Lumberton and Mrs. Tommy (Ann) Tapp of Laurinburg; three brothers, Mr. Malcolm L. McMillan of Elon College, Mr. Samuel A. McMillan of Trinity and Mr. Archibald 'Arch' McMillan of Ellerbe; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. William Charles McMillan, and a brother, Mr. John Douglas McMillan.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Burlington by the Rev. Phil Hughes, minister of adult education and senior adults, and Dr. Dale O. Steele, former pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Burlington Kiwanis Club.
The family will be at the home.
Memorials may be made to Elon Homes for Children, P.O. Box 157, Elon College, N.C. 27244.

Mrs. Nancy G. Ulmer
LIBERTY - Mrs. Nancy Kitty Gillis Ulmer, 93, of 5621 Foster Store Road, died at 6:39 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 1998, at her home after a short illness.
A native of Soperton, Ga., she was the wife of the late Mr. John Wilber Ulmer, and the daughter of Mr. John Washington Gillis and Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Yeoman Gillis, both deceased. She was a retired school teacher, working in South Carolina. She worked at Fairchild Aircraft Company during World War II. She was a member of Holly Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Ann Smith of Liberty; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Gillis Family cemetery in Soperton.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Mrs. Etta C. Day
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Etta May Coyner Day, of 3844 Heritage Drive, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Betty Y. Haith
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Betty Yellock Haith, 51, of 5049 George Miles Road, died at 4:47 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of several months.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Willie L. Haith, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Grace Bigelow Yellock, who survives, and the late Mr. James E. Yellock Sr. She was a member of Sweet Gum Baptist Church, where she was former director of the Junior Usher Board, member of the Senior Usher Board and the Missionary Society.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother of Burlington include two daughters, Mrs. Charlene H. Jones of Burlington and Miss Marquita Haith of the home; a sister, Mrs. Charlotte Y. Muhammed of Raleigh; three brothers, Mr. James E. Yellock Jr. of Durham, Mr. Alphonso Yellock of Birmingham, Ala., and Mr. Willie Yellock of Atlanta.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sweet Gum Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Brooks. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Janie P. Faulkner
GRAHAM - Mrs. Janie Parham Faulkner, 69, of 146 Crescent Square Drive, Apt. A, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a critical illness of nine days.
A native of Halifax County, she was the wife of Mr. Melvin Tillerson Faulkner, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Robert L. Parham Sr., and Mrs. Ivey Douglas Parham, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of North Graham Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Bobby (Dianne) Smith of Graham and Mrs. Eddie (Barbara) Smith of Burlington; a son, Mr. Samuel Faulkner of Marion; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Mae Pegram and Mrs. Nellie Knott, both of Henderson, and Mrs. Pearl Wynne of Raleigh; a brother, Mr. Alex Parham of Henderson; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Lucy Belle Wynne and a brother, Mr. Robert L. Parham Jr.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Graham Baptist Church by the Rev. Alan Ritter, pastor, and the Rev. Walter Jones. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
McClure Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lynn D. Baity
WHITSETT - Mr. Lynn Douglas "Doug" Baity, 56, of 582 N.C. 61 South, died Thursday morning, July 16, 1998, at his home after a sudden illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Shirley Gentry Baity, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Zola Marlow Baity, who survives, and the late Mr. Howard Fred Baity. He was owner and operator of Doug Baity Trucking for more than 20 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during peacetime. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Elon College.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Gibsonville include a daughter, Mrs. Jean Ellis of Burke, Va.; a stepson, Mr. Joe Melton of Elon College; a sister, Mrs. Wanda Lewis of Mount Airy; a brother, Mr. Vernon Baity of Browns Summit; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Elon College, by Bishop Richard Cauley, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mrs. Anne H. Beck
GRAHAM - Mrs. Anne Helen Beck, 76, of 613 Monroe Holt Road, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of New Jersey, she was the wife of the late Mr. Robert Earl Beck, and the daughter of Mr. Nicholas Niosi and Mrs. Isabella Niosi, both deceased. She was employed by Hardees of Graham.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Gail Beck of Graham and Mrs. Robin B. Nelson of Forsyth, Ga.; four sisters, Mrs. Lillian Zarrillo of Montclair, N.J. Mrs. Rose Kerns of New Milford, Pa., and Mrs. Francis Nemeckay of Bloomfield, N.J., and Mrs. Vera Frazzano of Kissimmee, Fla.; a brother, Mr. Philip Niosi of Totowa, N.J.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Lena Stanton and Ms. Mary Proto; and three brothers, Mr. Nicholas Niosi, Mr. Anthony Niosi and Mr. Louis Niosi.
A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Mr. Arthur L. Jones
BURLINGTON - Mr. Arthur L. Jones, 59, of 533 Ross St., died at 2:03 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at his home after an illness of several months.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Patricia Jeffers Jones, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Mary Jeffries Jones, who survives, and the late Mr. Walter T. Jones. He was employed by Dick Shirley Chevrolet Company for 22 years. He was a member of Burton's Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, was a member of the Finance Committee, member and treasurer of the Male Chorus and was a member of "The Glory Train" cast.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Burlington include a daughter, Mrs. Katrina J. Griffis of Burlington; three sons, Mr. Ivey "Peedie" Jones Sr. of Mebane, Mr. Timothy L. Jeffers and Mr. Ray Shawn Lee of Burlington; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burton's Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Maurice Boswell, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Jacqueline Simon
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Jacqueline Marie Krull Simon, 56, of 1323 Elm St., died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at her home after a sudden illness.
A native of Baltimore, she was the daughter of Mr. John Krull and Mrs. Mary Jane Bouma Krull, both deceased. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and did three years of graduate studies at the University of Virginia.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Andrea Mary Simon of Fairfax, Va.; two sons, Mr. Adam Charles Simon of Vienna, Va., and Mr. Aaron Paul Simon of Boone; a brother, Mr. Paul Krull of Fairfax; and a grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. John C. Earp, pastor of Macedonia Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Mrs. Pearl F. Loy
LIBERTY - Mrs. Pearl Fogleman Loy, 88, of 9159 Pleasant Hill Church Road, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Chatham Hospital after a short illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of late Mr. Roy G. Loy. She was a member of the Homemakers Club of Alamance County. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, where she was a janitor for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Ervin Loy and Mr. Gary Loy, both of Liberty; three sisters, Ms. Irene Hargis, Ms. Ollie Fox and Ms. Amy Fogleman, all of Liberty; a brother, Mr. Howard Fogleman of Liberty; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Ralph Fogleman.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church by the Rev. Howard Spray. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
