Mrs. Georgeanna Gwynn

YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Georgeanna Simpson Gwynn, 97, of 2015 Hodges Dairy Road, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville.

Born Nov. 30, 1900, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Mr. John Wesley Simpson and Mrs. Eliza Cobb Simpson, both deceased. She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Circle. She was a member of the home demonstration club and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Simon C. Gwynn Jr. of Capital Heights, Md.; three daughters, Mrs. Loretta G. Ramsey of Greensboro, Miss Mary E. Gwynn and Mrs. Dorothy G. Slade, both of Yanceyville; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Freddie Seabrook. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the home.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fulton Funeral Home.

Mr. Nathan E. Tickle

MADISON - Mr. Nathan Ennie Tickle, 98, of Britthaven of Madison died Saturday night, Jan. 10, 1998, at home.

A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of the late Ms. Erna Bennett Tickle and the late Ms. Josie Kellam Tickle. A lifelong resident of the Bethany community, he was a tobacco farmer and a member of Maplelawn Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir.

Survivors include three sons, Mr. Jim Curtis Tickle of Reidsville, Mr. Herman Tickle of Graham and Mr. Robert Tickle of Summerfield; a daughter, Ms. Arlene Ingle of Whitsett; two sisters, Ms. Odessa Alley and Ms. Zetta King, both of Britthaven of Madison; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Inez Tickle Dimont and a son, Mr. Elmer Tickle.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Maplelawn Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and other times at the home of a son, Mr. Jim Curtis Tickle, 471 Huffines Mill Road, Reidsville.

Memorials may be made to Maplelawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 5401 N.C. 65, Reidsville, N.C. 27320.

Ms. Anne B. McGuire

GREENSBORO - Ms. Anne Brooks McGuire, 96, of College Road died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at home.

Born April 11, 1901 in Haw River, she was the wife of the late Mr. Aubrey L. McGuire and the daughter of Mr. William T. Brooks and Mrs. Frances Thompson Brooks, both deceased. She was a graduate of Wesley Long School of Nursing under Dr. Wesley Long. After several years as a surgical nurse at Wesley Long, she became the superintendent of nurses at Children's Orthopedic Hospital in Lincolnton, making her the youngest superintendent of nurses in North Carolina. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteered with the church and schools. She was a member of St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Jean McGuire Foster of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Ms. Nancy McGuire Ratledge, Ms. Ann McGuire Huffine and Ms. Peggy McGuire, all of Greensboro; three sisters, Ms. Nell Brooks Simpson and Ms. Margaret Brooks Bowden, both of Haw River and Ms. Ruby Elizabeth 'Billie' Payne of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. Wade Brooks of Haw River; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Aubrey L. McGuire Jr.; four sisters, Ms. Frances Brooks Smith, Ms. Flora Brooks Compton, Ms. Carolyn Brooks Murphy and Ms. Mary Ellen Brooks Hanford and a brother, Mr. Roger Brooks.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church. Burial will be in New Garden Cemetery.

The family will be at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home from 7 until 9 this evening.

Memorials may be made to St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church, 1300 Jefferson Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27410.

Mr. Mack Willis

WEST YANCEYVILLE - Mr. Carl Mack Willis, 66, of 1786 U.S. 158 West, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Triangle Hospice of Hillsborough after 15 months of failing health.

A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Ola Shelton Willis, who survives, and the son of Mr. P.P. Willis and Mrs. Jenny Lunsford Willis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from the N.C. Division of Prisons after 30 years. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church and attended Prospect United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Carl Blake Willis of Durham; three sisters, Mrs. B.L. (Mildred) Laughon and Ms. Anne W. Swicegood, both of Burlington, and Ms. Nancy W. Shelton of West Yanceyville; two brothers, Mr. Hazel Paul Willis of Sterling, Va., and Mr. James M. 'Jimmy' Willis of Purley and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilkinson, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Triangle Hospice, 1001 Corporate Drive, Hillsborough, N.C. 27278.

Mrs. Mollie Pentecost

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mollie M. Pentecost of 2265 Bonnie Lane, Burlington died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at home after six months of failing health.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of Mr. Roger C. Pentecost, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. William Peter Malone and Mrs. Lula Jane Moore Malone, both deceased. She was a service and customer-relations representative for Southern Bell for more than 29 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was Baptist.

Survivors other than her husband of the home include two sisters, Mrs. Billie M. Ritter of Greensboro and Mrs. Sue M. Jackson of Virginia Beach, Va., and a brother, Mr. Wayne Malone of Mauldin, S.C.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Reformed Church cemetery by the Rev. Kurt Johnston of Shiloh Presbyterian Church.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122 or to the charity of choice.

Mr. Rommie Smith

RALEIGH - Mr. Rommie Smith of 8021 Old McCullers Road died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.

He was the husband of Mrs. Vannie Florence Smith, who survives.

Survivors other than his wife include four daughters, Ms. Goldie Hines of Raleigh, Ms. Nettie Smith of Greensboro, Ms. Jackie Hooker of Burlington and Ms. Juane M. Smith and a son, Mr. Charles H. Smith of Raleigh.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Juniper Level Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonightat Haywood Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Dora J. Hankins

PELHAM - Mrs. Dora Johnson Hankins, 39, of 559 Mineral Springs Church Road died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at the Alamance-Caswell Hospice Home in Burlington.

Born Jan. 2, 1959, in Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Tony Hankins, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Hollis Johnson, who survives, and the late Mrs. Willie Pearl Brown Johnson. She was an employee of Burlington Industries and was a member of Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors other than her husband of the home and father of Yanceyville include a son, Mr. Tony Durrell Hankins of Pelham; three brothers, Mr. Clifton Brown of Pelham, Mr. Richard Johnson of Ruffin and Mr. Anthony Johnson of Danville, Va.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Watlington of Green Level and Mrs. Carolyn Farris of Pelham.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Everett Dickerson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Fulton Funeral Home.

The family will be at the home.

Mr. George M. Curtis

BURLINGTON - Mr. George Mack Curtis, 70, of 1950 Hanford Road died at 1:13 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mildred R. Curtis, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Charles Roscoe and Mrs. Louise Wayne Curtis, both deceased. He was self employed at the Blouse House in Graham. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than the wife of the home include a son, Mr. Joseph Curtis of Haw River; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Duncan of Asheville, Mrs. Willie Barkhurst of Phoenix, Mrs. Mary Bell of Toast and Mrs. Edna Poole of Burlington; three brothers, Mr. Paul Curtis of Gibsonville and Mr. Hal Curtis and Mr. Charles Curtis, both of Burlington, and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rick Moser, pastor. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, 4178 Mt. Hermon-Rock Creek Road, Graham, N.C. 27253.

Mrs. Juanita Simmons

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Juanita Georgia Chandler Simmons, 82, of 355 Stoney Point Road, formerly of 1843 N.C. 87 North, Elon College, died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Kings Mountain Memorial Hospital.

A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Robert Lee Simmons, who died in 1993, and the daughter of Mr. Junious Beard Chandler and Mrs. Mattie Glen Boswell Chandler, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of the Altamahaw Baptist Church, where she was former church pianist for more than 40 years and taught Sunday school.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Jerry Simmons of Kings Mountain; a sister, Mrs. Audrey Elkins of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Wilson Chandler of Yanceyville and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Eugene Chandler.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Altamahaw Baptist Church by Dr. Dan Christopher, pastor, and the Rev. Felton Massey, retired Baptist minister.

The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening and other times at 1843 N.C. 87 North, Elon College.

Mrs. Helen W. Shepherd

GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Williams Shepherd, 75, of 6418 Piney Road, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital after a critical illness of six weeks.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Henry Clay Shepherd, and the daughter of Mr. Will Williams and Mrs. Maggie Self Williams, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Brightwood Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. H. Clay Shepherd Jr. of Carrboro and Mr. William 'Ron' Shepherd of Greensboro; a daughter, Ms. Helen Faye Reese of Gibsonville; two sisters, Ms. Ruby Wadell of Asheville and Ms. Mary Isley of Gibsonville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 .m. Monday at Brightwood Christian Church by the Rev. Delton Agnor, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Bartlett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
