Mr. James I. Hill

LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. - Mr. James Irvin Hill, 70, of 16789 W. Okeechobee Road died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at the home of a sister in Burlington.

A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Juanita Dermott Hill, who survives, and the son of Mr. James Martin Hill and Mrs. Goldie Johnson Hill, both deceased. He was a plant manager with Rich Ice Cream Company and was an U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lake Worth, Fla.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Ms. Shirley J. Hill of Green Acres, Fla., and Mrs. Dana 'Debra' Beyer of Boynton Beach, Fla.; six sisters, Mrs. Catherine Dermott of Lake Worth, Mrs. Jeannette Apple of McLeansville, Mrs. Louise Jefferson of Surfside Beach, S.C., Mrs. Marie Thomas of Gibsonville, Mrs. Ethel Wicker of Julian and Mrs. Dorothy McKinney of Burlington; three brothers, Mr. Herbert Hill of Gibsonville, Mr. Roy Hill of McLeansville and Mr. Edward Hill of Greensboro; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted in First Baptist Church of Lake Worth by the Rev. Dewitt Matthews, pastor. Burial will be in Pinecrest cemetery in Lake Worth.

The family will be at the home of a sister, Mrs. Catherine Dermott, 418 N. K Street, Lake Worth.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lake Worth, 127 S. M Street, Lake Worth, Fla. 33460.

Mr. James W. Carver

MEBANE - Mr. James 'Sleepy' Carver, 66, of 4926 Corbett Ridge Road, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at his home after one year of failing health.

A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Janie Webster Carver who survives and the son of Mr. Ernest A. Carver and Mrs. Elizabeth Boswell Carver, both deceased. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include four sons, Mr. Donnie Carver and Mr. Will Carver, both of Prospect Hill, Mr. Richard 'Red' Carver of Elon College and Mr. Jerry Carver of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Holder of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Mrs. Mary Griffin of Greensboro; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper cemetery in Prospect Hill by the Rev. Chad Hall and the Rev. Jack Church.

The family will be at the home.

Mr. John W. Wells Jr.

MEBANE - Mr. John William Wells Jr. of 631 Artmis Lane died at 9:55 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 20, 1956, he was the husband of Ms. Brenda Wells, and was the son of Mr. John W. Wells Sr. and Mrs. Claristine Mims Wells Blackwell. He was a self-employed truck driver.

Survivors other than his wife of Graham include a son, Mr. Travis Jonta Wells of the home; a daughter, Ms. Quincelyn Raselle Wells of Graham; two sisters, Ms. Cynthia W. Hester of Mebane and Mrs. Lori Hairston of Eden; a brother, Mr. Richard L. Wells of Mebane; and his stepfather, Mr. Leroy Blackwell of Mebane.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kimes Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Rainey Enoch. Burial will be in Snow Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 6 to 7 Tuesday evening, and at other times at the home.

Ms. Mary E. Corker

BURLINGTON - Ms. Mary Elizabeth Corker of Burlington died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh after an extended illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Mrs. Maude Corker and was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Francis L. (Carolyn C.) Roberts Sr. of Raleigh; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sharpe Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Larry Covington, pastor. Burial will be in North Lawn cemetery.

The body may be viewed at Sharpe Memorial Chapel until the funeral.

Mrs. Helen Larzelere

GRAHAM - Mrs. Helen Catron Larzelere, 85, of 305 N. Maple St. died at 8:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Alamance after 10 year of failing health, three weeks critical.

A native of Smyth County, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. William Reese Larzelere Sr., and the daughter of Mr. James Kelly Catron and Mrs. Margaret Ann Orr Catron, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Western Electric and was a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and attended Glen Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Mr. James G. Larzelere of Graham, Mr. William R. Larzelere Jr. of Chatham, Va., and Mr. Harold C. Larzelere of Coleman, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Pauline Landrum of Virginia Beach, Va., Mrs. Naomi Claybourn of Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Eunice Bower of Saltville, Va., and Mrs. Frances Yates of Monroe, La.; three brothers, Mr. Ernest Catron of Douglasville, Ga., Mr. James K. Catron of Welch, W.Va., and Mr. David Catron of Saltville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Bob Stephenson, pastor of Glen Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 Sunday evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Charles Clabern Jr.

WAKE FOREST - Mr. Charles Lewis Clabern Jr., 73, of 1008 Hornbuckle Court, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Born Nov. 19, 1924 in Winston-Salem, he was the husband of Mrs. Hilda Adams Clabern, who survives and the son of Mr. Charles Lewis Clabern Sr. and Mrs. Mary Ledell Denton Clabern, both deceased. He was a retired employee of AT&T with 35 years of service, a life member of Telephone Pioneers and a member of Home Moravian Church in Winston-Salem.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Melissa Clabern Watson of Wake Forest; and a son, Mr. Charles Lewis Clabern III of Cashiers; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Kenneth Clabern; and a sister, Ms. Pearl Adams Dawson.

The funeral was conducted Sunday at Home Moravian Church in Winston-Salem by the Rev. Gerald Harris and Bishop J.C. Hughes. A private graveside service will be held today at Forsyth Memorial Park.

The family will be at Adams Mark Hotel.

Mrs. Lula B. Needham

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Lula Badgett Needham, 92, of Alamance Health Care, formerly of 207 Apple St., died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at home after six months failing health, three weeks critical.

A native of Surry County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Jesse Samuel Needham and the daughter of Mr. Thomas Lafayette Badgett and Mrs. Mary Moser Badgett, both deceased. She was a retired textile employee and attended Ireland St. Chapel where she was a member of the Ladies Missionary Circle.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Coffee of Burlington and Mrs. Myrtle Harrill of Charlotte; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Jack Needham; two sisters Mrs. Yvonne Hodge and Mrs. Alma Waddell; and two brothers Mr. George Badgett and Mr. Cleve Badgett.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Hill cemetery by Mr. A.G. Sutton Jr.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6:30 until 8 this evening and other times at the home of the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Phyllis Needham, 415 Trail One, Burlington.

Memorials may be made to Ireland St. Chapel, 430 S. Ireland St., Burlington, N.C., 27217.

Mr. Lester Huffines Jr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Lester Barrett 'Huffy' Huffines Jr., 50, of 733-B Paige Drive, died at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, in Guilford County.

A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Lester Barret Huffines and Mrs. Rebecca Webster Huffines, both deceased. He was a self-employed dental technician and played bass for several local bands including Flashback, The Grand Tour Band and The Real Redneck Band. He was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church in Gibsonville.

Survivors include a son, Mr. David Dwayne Huffines of Graham; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel by the Rev. Mike Wilburn. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family wil be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening and other times at the home.

Mr. James W. Carver

BURLINGTON - Mr. June James Laster Jr. of 710 Maple Ave., died at 1:51 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Frances O. Perry

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Frances Overman Perry, 75, of 513 Delaware Ave., died at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a critical illness of two days.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Otis Eugene Perry Sr. and the daughter of Mr. Ernest H. Overman and Mrs. Myrtle Lee Allen Overman, both deceased. She was a waitress at J&G Barbecue and Hall's Restaurant. She was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. James (Linda) L. Newbold Sr. of Boca Raton, Fla., Mrs. Steve (Brenda) Isley Sr. of Burlington and Mrs. Toby (Beverly) Overman of Mebane; two sons, Mr. O.E. 'Gene' Perry Jr. and Mr. Ricky L. Perry, both of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Riley of Haw River, Mrs. June (Betty) Warren Jr. of Hopedale and Mrs. Jim (Shirley) Hall of Graham; nine brothers, Mr. Ervin Overman, Mr. Ralph Overman, Mr. Harry Overman, Mr. Jimmy Overman, Mr. Bobby Overman, Mr. Billy Overman and Mr. George Overman, all of Burlington, Mr. John Overman of McLeansville and Mr. Donnie Overman of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Carrie L. Guinn; and a brother, Mr. Vernell Overman.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverdale Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Eugene Webb. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 9 Friday evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Nancy Caldwell

GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Noble Caldwell, 76, of 808 Burlington Road died at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, two months critical.

A native of Mebane, she was the daughter of Mr. Robah Massey Noble Sr. and Mrs. Mary Estelle McAdams Noble, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Elon College.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Hudgins of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Jackie N. Caldwell of Burlington and Mr. Jerry Richard Caldwell of Gibsonville; a sister, Mrs. Mary Caldwell of Burlington; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ruth Finley; and two brothers, Mr. James W. 'Bill' Noble and Mr. R.M. Noble Jr.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Bobby Fann, pastor of Glen Raven Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 9 Friday evening, and at other times at the home.
