Mr. David E. Williams

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Mr. David Eugene 'Gene' Williams, 59, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at his home.

Born April 8, 1938, in Madison County, Fla., he was the son of Mr. Ruter Williams and Mrs. Josie Williams, both deceased. He was a member and deacon at Glade Baptist Church. He was employed with the Kroger Co. in Blacksburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Randy (Katrina) Rich of Burlington; a son, Mr. Darrell Williams of Fayetteville; and six grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted at Thursday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel in Blacksburg by the Rev. Kelly M. Sisson. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to Glade Baptist Church, 1600 Glade Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.

Mr. Richard Isley Jr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Richard F. Isley Jr., 76, of Burlington Care Center died at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at his home after three years of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Sarah Cross Isley, and the son of Mrs. Vivian Foster Isley, who survives, and the late Mr. Richard Freeman Isley Sr. He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Survivors other than his mother of Burlington include a son, Mr. Jerry Isley of Elon College; three sisters, Mrs. John W. (Luone) Burwell Jr. of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Hughes J. (Avril) Rhodes Jr. of Burlington and Mrs. Arnold H. (Helen) Ward of Roanoke, Va.; two brothers, Mr. Harold V. Isley of Burlington and Mr. Donald W. Isley of Palm City, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Skip Williams, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Annie L. Woods

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Annie Bell Long Woods, 81, formerly of the home of her granddaughter, Ms. Darlene Cooper, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Born June 9, 1916, in Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Herbert Long and the late Mr. James Clayvon Woods. She was the daughter of Mr. Thomas Long and Mrs. Lillie Stephens Long, both deceased. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include three stepdaughters, Ms. Eunice Slate of Chapel Hill, Ms. Druscilla McRay of Greensboro and Ms. Mae Emma Browning of Durham; two sons, Mr. Monroe Woods of Yanceyville and Mr. Ulysses Woods of Timberlake; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Annie Louise Walker; and a son, Mr. Daniel Louis Long.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. John L. Watlington. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsborough from 7 to 8 Friday evening.

Mr. Stanford McKethan

BURLINGTON - Mr. Stanford L. McKethan of 1227 Avondale Drive died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

He was the son of the Rev. Clyde McKethan and Mrs. Eula Smith McKethan, both deceased. He was a graduate of N.C. A&T University and was an educator for several years in Alamance County. He was self-employed and a landlord and Realtor. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Stanford L. McKethan Jr. of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Alberta McKethan Forte Sanders of Smithfield; and a stepmother, Mrs. Maude McKethan of Dunn.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer United Church of Christ by the Rev. Larry Covington, pastor. The body will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 2:30 to 6 Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in North Lawn cemetery in Burlington.

The family will be at Ebenezer United Church of Christ from 6:30 to 7:30 Saturday evening.

Chasity Nicole Goodman

GRAHAM - Chasity Nicole Goodman, infant daughter of Ms. Sandra Dee Goodman of 410 Creekside Court, died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A native of Orange County, she was Baptist.

Survivors other than her mother of the home include two brothers, Mr. Christopher Ryan Goodman and Mr. Chadrick Bryant Goodman, both of Greensboro; maternal grandmother, Ms. Phyllis Diane Smith of Burlington; and maternal grandfather, Mr. Griffen Goodman of Burlington.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Alamance Memorial Park Babyland by Dr. Don Carter, pastor of Baptist Temple.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 this afternoon.

Mrs. Peggy A. Stinson

MEBANE - Mrs. Peggy Ann Ashley Stinson, 57, of 3121 Holly Hill Road, died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at UNC Hospitals after a short illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. John Bantam Stinson, and the daughter of Mr. John Thomas Ashley and Mrs. Annie Horner Ashley, both deceased. She was a homemaker and Baptist.

Survivors include one daughter, Ms. Regina Harris of Mebane; one son, Mr. James Earl Harris of Snow Camp; three sisters, Mrs. Harriet A. Conklin and Mrs. Betty A. Foust, both of Graham, and Mrs. Glenda A. Wicker of Bellemont; two brothers, Mr. David Lee Ashley and Mr. John B. Ashley, both of Graham.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. John Henry Ashley.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and at other times, at the home of the daughter, Ms. ReGina Harris, 649 Corrigidor Drive, Mebane.

Mrs. Emma F. Miesner

MEBANE - Mrs. Emma Barbara Freeman Miesner, 91, of 2502 N.C. 119 South, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields.

McClure Funeral Home in Mebane is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Dr. James Morrison

RALEIGH - Dr. James Woodrow Morrison 79 of 3101 Tryon Road died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at Wake Medical Center.

A native of Pinehurst, he was born June 26, 1918. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Lorenza Fuller Morrison and Mrs. Mary B. Smith-Morrison, who survives, and the son of Mr. Levi Morrison and Mrs. Mary Baldwin Morrison, both deceased. He was immediate past pastor of Poplar Springs United Church of Christ and also served congregations in Raleigh, Suffolk, Va., and Franklinton, and various churches while in college, including Children's Chapel in Graham.

He was a member of the Raleigh / Wake Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, the Johnson C. Smith Alumnae Association and the Raleigh Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He graduated from Rock Hill Junior College and received his undergraduate degree from Johnson C. Smith, graduating cum laude in 1952. He received the master of divinity from Hartford Theological Seminary Foundation in Hartford, Conn.

He was active in community affairs and served on the Alamance County School Board and the Board of Advisors at Elon College. He was a 33rd degree Mason affiliated with the St. Andrew's Masonic Lodge 172 in Burlington.

Survivors other than his wife include one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Morrison Sneed of Mebane; one son, Mr. James Reginald Morrison of Virginia; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Patsy Smith Morgan of Raleigh and Ms. Sheila Smith McKoy of Nashville, Tenn.; a stepson, Mr. Christopher Smith of Raleigh; two sisters, Ms. Lula Morrison Wilson of Newark, N.J., and Ms. Annie Morrison Cotton of Chapel Hill; one brother, Mr. William Morrison of Passaic, N.J.; and six grandchildren.

A wake will be held at 7 this evening at Poplar Springs United Church of Christ. Two memorial services are planned; one will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Poplar Springs United Church of Christ in Raleigh, and a second service and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Children's Chapel United Church of Christ in Graham.

The family will be at the home.

Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs United Church of Christ Building Fund.

Miss Elizabeth Rauhut

BURLINGTON - Miss Elizabeth Magdalene Rauhut, 95, an 11-year resident of the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields in Mebane, died at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at the home after several years of failing health. She was a former resident of Parkview Drive.

A native of Alamance County, she was the youngest daughter of Mr. Charles F. Rauhut and Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Holt Rauhut, both deceased, pioneer citizens of Burlington. She was a first-grade teacher for 38 years before retiring, teaching in Eastern North Carolina and in Alamance County Schools. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and Salem College in Winston-Salem. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington and was named its Woman of the Year in 1980.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington by Dr. Charles Williams, pastor. The body will remain at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington until placed in the church for the visitation. Burial will be in the Rauhut family plot of Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the Session Room of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 508 W. Davis St., Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Mr. Joel E. Pentecost

BURLINGTON - Mr. Joel Ellis 'Dugan' Pentecost, 87, of 2257 Bonnie Lane, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at his home after 11/2 years of failing health and two weeks of critical illness.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Dixon Pentecost, who survives, and the son of Mr. Joel Lambeth Pentecost and Mrs. Ida Shoffner Pentecost, both deceased. He was retired from May Hosiery Mill and C.J. Kerns Construction Co. He was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church and the Fisherman Sunday school class. He was a beekeeper and made bee supplies.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Linda) Angel of Graham and Mrs. Bill (Peggy) Dixon of Burlington; one son, Mr. Roger Craig Pentecost of Burlington; four sisters, Mrs. Cleta Foster, Mrs. Helen Swangin and Mrs. Betty Mae Clapp, all of Burlington, and Mrs. Elsie Clapp of Saxapahaw; one brother, Mr. Robert Michael Pentecost of Marietta, Ga.; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Storey; and a brother, Mr. Wallace Brown Pentecost.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Kurt Johnston, interim pastor of Shiloh Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at St. Mark's Reformed Church Cemetery.

The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 12:30 to 2 Friday afternoon, prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the Fisherman Sunday school class, c / o Shiloh Presbyterian Church, 2634 Alamance Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Mr. Mack Thompson Jr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Mack Bride Thompson Jr., 75, of 1523 Maple Ave., died at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham after a critical illness of one week.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Emily Norwood Thompson, and son of Mr. Mack B. Thompson Sr. and Mrs. Delacy Isley Thompson, both deceased. He was a member of Queen's Chapel AME Church and was a veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Jordan Sellars High School.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Audrey T. Wagstaff of San Antonio, Mrs. Delacy T. Miles and Ms. Maxine Thompson, both of Burlington, Mrs. Sylvia T. Williams of Danville, Va., and Mrs. Angela Thompson-Clark of Gibsonville; four sons, Mr. Mack B. Thompson III and Mr. Antonio Thompson, both of Washington, D.C., Mr. Jerry Thompson of Burlington and Mr. Michael Thompson of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Gwynn T. Alexander of Queens, N.Y., and Ms. Cora L. Thompson of Burlington; one brother, Mr. Lacy 'Jimmy' Thompson of the home; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Queen's Chapel AME Church by the Rev. W.H. Morrison, pastor, and the Rev. V.P. Burns. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Friday evening and at other times at the home.
