Mr. Charles Scott Sr.

REIDSVILLE - Mr. Charles 'Charlie' King Scott Sr. of 1516 S. Park Drive died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at his home.

A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Golding Scott, who survives, and the son of Mr. Edd Scott and Mrs. Mattie Huskey Scott, both deceased. He had lived in Reidsville most of his life and was a retired employee of American Tobacco Co. He was a charter member of Pennrose Park Country Club and a member of the Reidsville Moose Lodge 899.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Charles K. 'Chuck' Scott Jr. of Burlington; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Scott 'Gincy' Goodwin of Wilmington; two brothers, Mr. John W. 'Bill' Scott and Mr. Harold R. Scott, both of Reidsville; two sisters, Ms. Annie Pearl Moore of Reidsville and Ms. Hazel S. Moore of Eden; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Sandra Scott Bradsher.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Main Street United Methodist Church by Dr. Robert Kerr and the Rev. John Burton. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will be at Citty Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 Thursday evening and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 4193, Eden, N.C. 27289-4193.

Mr. Javy M. Taylor Jr.

MEBANE - Mr. Javy Monroe Taylor Jr., 51, of 710-F Carr St., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at his home.

A native of New Hanover Co., he was the son of Mr. Javy Monroe Taylor Sr. and Mrs. Edna Neal Taylor, both deceased. He was employed by Research Triangle Park and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mebane.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Kim Womble of Mebane.

The funeral will be conduced at 7 p.m. Thursday at Grace Reformed Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary Hendrix, pastor, and the Rev. Charles Fleshman, associate pastor of First Baptist Church of Mebane. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at the church following the service and at other times at the home of the sister, Mrs. Kim Womble, 1307 Whitacre Road, Mebane.

Memorials may be made to the Book Ministry of Grace Reformed Baptist Church, 939 S. Third St., Mebane, N.C. 27302.

Mrs. Patricia Brame

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Patricia 'Pat' Wheeler Duggins Brame, 61, of 2297 Lee Drive, died at 7:35 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after 21/2 years of failing health, two weeks critical.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Jackson Duggins and Mr. Paul Levi Brame, who survives. She was the daughter of Mrs. Mary Terry Wheeler, who survives, and the late Mr. Lonnie T. Wheeler Sr. She was a former employee of NCA and did volunteer work for the homeless. She was a member of the Burlington Assembly of God.

Survivors other than her husband of Elon College and mother of Graham include five daughters, Mrs. Katherine Duggins McDonald, Mrs. Cindy Duggins Collins and Mrs. Angela Brame Payne, all of Burlington, Mrs. Rebecca Duggins Jordan and Mrs. Pamela Duggins Newnam of Elon College; a son, Mr. Matthew Lynn Duggins of Burlington; two sisters Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Duggins and Mrs. Levi (Betty) Hester, both of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Homer G. Wheeler and Mr. Lonnie Talmadge Wheeler Jr.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Howard Thompson, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God, and the Rev. L.C. Troxler, associate pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this Wednesday evening, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Cindy Duggins Collins, 2297 Lee Drive, Burlington.

Mrs. Selena Morman

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Selena Warren Morman, 53, of 611 Apt. H, Fairfax Drive, died Friday evening, Nov. 14, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. John Wesley Warren and Mrs. Mary Enoch W. Lewis, both deceased.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dawn M. Broome of Suitland, Md., Mrs. Debrah M. Charles of Largo, Md., and Mrs. Kamili DeFreitas Kiros of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Ms. Diane Warren of Georgia; three brothers, Mr. James Wesley Warren and Mr. Joseph Fernard Lewis, both of Washington, D.C., and Mr. Walter Earl Warren of New York.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday at First Baptist Church on Apple Street by Dr. Richard W. Styles Sr., pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Enoch family cemetery.

The family will be at the church one hour before the service and at other times, at the home of Mr. John Enoch, 1800 Lower Hopedale Road, Burlington.

Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Bertha E. King

BURLINGTON - Ms. Bertha Elizabeth King of 2244 Union Ridge Road, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

A native of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Wilma Herbin King, who survives, and the late Mr. Willie King. She was a member of High Rock Baptist Church.

Survivors other than her mother of Burlington include two daughters, Ms. Ida M. King of the home and Mrs. Lora Ann Graves of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Willie James King of the home and Mr. James Henry King of Caswell County; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Sue Penny and Mrs. Easter Pinnix, both of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Wesley David King of Reidsville and Mr. John Willie King of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at High Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. John Henry Graves. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Thursday evening.

Mrs. Annie M. Smith

EFLAND - Mrs. Annie Mae Hamlett Smith, 89, of 5004 Lebanon Road died at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at her home after a long illness.

Born April 4, 1908, in Virginia, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Roechelle Smith, and the daughter of Mr. William Hamlett and Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor Hamlett, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Haw River Christian Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Ms. Mary Porterfield of Efland, Ms. C. Ann Smith of Burlington and Mrs. Maxwell 'Mae' Lai of Maryland; two sons, Mr. James F. Smith and Mr. Coy O. Smith, both of the home; one sister, Mrs. Lena Matlock of Pleasant Garden; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, two sons, a sister and four brothers.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Jim Rosser, pastor of Haw River Christian Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 this Wednesday evening, and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Haw River Christian Church, 415 Roxboro Road, Haw River, N.C. 27258; or to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

GRAHAM - Mrs. Rachel Dawn Davis Oakley, 48, of 110 Eastway Lane died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at her home after an illness of two years.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Kenneth E. Oakley, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Annie Frances Terrell Davis, who survives, and the late Mr. George Henry Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of Family of God in Fellowship at Mebane Gospel Chapel.

Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother of Chapel Hill include a son, Mr. Michael Wayne Oakley Sr. of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Vickie D. Graves of Mebane and Mrs. Nancy Dunevant of Gloucester, Va.; two brothers, Mr. Victor Davis and Mr. Brian Davis, both of Mebane; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by Mr. Robert Suitts. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6:30 to 8:30 Tuesday evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Albert F. Sykes

HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Albert Floyd Sykes, 85, of 4405 Orange Grove Road, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997.

A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Julia Mincey Sykes, who survives. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

Survivor other than his wife of the home include four daughters, Ms. Pansy Miller of Haw River, Ms. Annie Mae Cranford and Ms. Faye Keeter, both of Hillsborough, and Ms. Harriett Blalock of Durham; two sisters, Ms. Velma Wagner and Ms. Rosalie Miller, both of Hillsborough; one brother, Mr. George Sykes of Hillsborough; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and seven great-step grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gospel Baptist Tabernacle by the Rev. David Bolick and the Rev. Ronnie Bradford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening.

Mr. George A. Evans

EFLAND - Mr. George Arch Evans, 68, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Durham.

Born Nov. 14, 1929, in Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Blanche Fuller Evans, who survives, and the son of Mr. Wallace Atkins and Mrs. Maude Mae Terrell, both deceased. He was retired from Charles Roberts Co. and was a member of Lee's Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Ms. Alfreda Evans of Burlington; five sons, the Rev. Archie T. Evans of Mebane, Mr. Lyle Angelo Evans and Mr. Reginald M. Evans, both of Burlington, Mr. Alton C. Evans of Efland, Mr. Darryl C. Evans of the home; four sisters, Ms. Mary Mae Thompson of Philadelphia, Ms. Lillie Pearl Coble, Ms. Gaynell Owens and Ms. Daisy Scott, all of Mebane; four brothers, Mr. Walter Evans, Mr. Bruce Evans and Mr. Donald Evans, all of Mebane, and Mr. Larry Evans of Anderson; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lee's Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. T.E. Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Tuesday evening.
