Mr. Bobby Boggs Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. Bobby Earl Boggs Sr., 64, of 2372 Carolina Road, Lot 7, died at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Wilda May Nevitt Boggs, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Lottie Inez Councilman Jones, who survives, and the late Mr. Nathan Edward Boggs. He retired from Burlington Industries after 10 years of service and was retired from the U.S. Air Force and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a volunteer fireman with the Faucette Fire Department Station No. 7 from 1974 to 1986. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a lifelong troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Graham include three daughters, Ms. Darla Boggs and Mrs. Juanita Boggs Mitchell, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Tina Boggs Firestone of Goldsboro; two sons, Mr. Bobby Earl Boggs Jr. of Burlington and Mr. Alan Keith Boggs Sr. of Graham; two stepdaughters, Ms. Kimicko Sergest of Las Vegas and Ms. Teresa Markham Howell of Burlington; four brothers, Mr. Richard Boggs, Mr. Billy Wayne Boggs and Mr. Councilman Buddy Boggs, all of Haw River, and the Rev. Roger Dale Boggs of Graham; two stepbrothers, the Rev. Walter Jones Jr. of Siler City and Mr. Bubba Boggs of Haw River; 13 grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Roger Dale Boggs, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church, and the Rev. Walter Jones Jr., pastor of Brookdale Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Irvin D. Womble
CHAPEL HILL - Mr. Irvin Dolton Womble, 83, of 1531 Crawford Dairy Road, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Vergie Mae Thompson Womble, who survives, and the son of Mr. Arthur Bland Womble and Mrs. Blanche Freeland Womble, both deceased. He was a retired farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Thompson of Chapel Hill; three sons, Mr. Wayne Womble of Mebane, Mr. Richard 'Dick' Womble of Knightdale and Mr. Lynn Womble of Chapel Hill; a sister, Mrs. Mozelle Merritt of Pittsboro; a brother, Mr. London Womble of Pittsboro; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Wills, pastor, and the Rev. Ricky Wood. Burial will be in the Cole Family cemetery in Carrboro.

Mrs. Prue C. Edwards former United Way Executive dies
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Prue Choate Edwards, 85, of Twin Lakes Center, 100 Wade Coble Drive, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at home after several years of failing health.
A native of Salisbury, she was the wife of the late Mr. H. Linwood Edwards, and the daughter of Dr. Glenn William Choate and Mrs. Donna Osborne Choate, both deceased. She served as Executive Director for the United Way of Alamance County for 22 years, beginning in 1955 and retiring in 1977. In 1993 she was named Executive Director emeritus of the Alamance County Chapter of the United Way, was former Program Director for the North Carolina/South Carolina United Way Executive Association and was voted Woman of the Year by the Burlington Civitan Club in 1952. In 1970, she was listed in 'Who's Who Among American Women.' She was an active member of Front Street United Methodist Church, where she was an honorary member of the Administrative Board in 1997.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Nell Choate Machen of High Point.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Front Street United Methodist Church by Dr. William C. Simpson, pastor, and Dr. G. Robert McKenzie, minister of visitation. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery in Greensboro.
The family will be in the John Wesley Room of Front Street United Methodist Church following the service.

Mrs. Esther L. Roberts
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Esther 'Jerry' LeDone Roberts, 82, of 613 Woodhaven Drive, died at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., she was married
for 50 years to Mr. Leonard Francis Roberts, who survives, and was the daughter of Mr. John Peter LeDone and Mrs. Ella Uhlshoeffer LeDone. She retired in 1978, from the Smith Corona Division of the SCM Corporation. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and was a member of the former Piedmont International Club. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She and her husband were former residents of Syracuse, moving with Smith Corona to Cortland, N.Y. They moved to Burlington in 1979.
Survivors include her husband of the home.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Terence Pescatore, O.F.M. Conv., Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening. A Christian prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home.
Mrs. Fannie W. Brown
GRAHAM - Mrs. Fannie Williams Brown, 89, of 343 Baldwin Road, Burlington, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at White Oak Manor after several years of failing health, three weeks critical. She was a former resident of 3954 N.C. 87 South.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Milton Brown, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. George L. Williams and Mrs. Cora Cobb Williams, both deceased. She was a homemaker and was a life-long member of Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Shirley) Braxton and Mrs. Chuck (Nancy) Guthrie, both of Graham; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Bailey, Mrs. Bessie Herron and Mrs. Nina Lamb, all of Graham; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church by Dr. James Bryan, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Guthrie, 3019 Rogers Road, Graham.

Mrs. Mary E. Huffman
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Huffman, 88, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Alamance Health Care after nine years of failing health, two weeks critical. She was a former resident of Phibbs Road, Elon College.
A native of Yadkin County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Emmett D.C. Huffman, and the daughter of Mr. Preston Thomas Hayes and Mrs. Mittie Lassiter Hayes, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty Peyton of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Mrs. Henry D. (Linda) Jones of Burlington; three sons, Mr. Robert Huffman and Mr. Charles Huffman, both of Elon College, and Mr. Tommy Huffman of North Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Routh of Elon College and Mrs. Beulah Josey of Troutman; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ms. Collie Hayes, Ms. Ethel Crawford, Ms. Margie Josey and Ms. Lavassie Gillispie; and three brothers, Mr. Noah Hayes, Mr. Walter Hayes and Mr. William Hayes.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Hobbs, pastor, and the Rev. Frank Gribble, former pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas J. Warner
BURLINGTON - Mr. Thomas Jefferson 'Tom' Warner, 88, of White Oak Manor, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at his home after a critical illness of six weeks.
A native of Mount Gilead, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Ruth Smith Warner and the late Mrs. Helen Williamson Warner. He was the son of Mr. William Robert Warner and Mrs. Frances Galloway Warner, both deceased. He was a retired technician, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. He was a Mason and a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ruth Henley of Camden, S.C.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Michael Hobbs, pastor of Davis Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Lawrence Zimmerman
BURLINGTON - Mr. Lawrence W. Zimmerman, 90, of 2019 Elon-Ossipee Road, died at 6:35 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at the Hospice Home.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Lillie Apple Zimmerman, and the son of Mr. David Zimmerman and Mrs. Fannie Pritchett Zimmerman, both deceased. He was a retired farmer and he and his wife were active in the Greensboro Farmers' Market for many years. He attended Apple's Chapel Christian Church and the Men's Bible Class.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Raymond Zimmerman of Gibsonville, Mr. Worth Zimmerman and Mr. Wade Zimmerman, both of Elon College; one sister, Mrs. Grace Childress of Mebane; a brother, Mr. Jack Zimmerman of Greensboro; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. C. Allen Myers, pastor of Apple's Chapel Christian Church, and the Rev. Lester Stanley, minister of visitation. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. Thomas E. May
BURLINGTON - Mr. Thomas Earl May, 66, of 2140 Durham St. Ext., died at 11:42 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Lee May, who survives, and the son of Mr. Otis Franklin May and Mrs. Minnie Pauline Horner May, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Diversco Corp. He was a member of Vickers Memorial Baptist Church and was a former member of the Alamance Gospel Boys.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sons, Mr. Paul Clinton May of Nashville, N.C., Mr. Allen Earl May and Mr. Raymond Michael May, both of Burlington; one daughter, Mrs. Connie Sue Doby of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Violet Webster of Burlington; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Raymond Franklin May.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John F. Skenes Jr., pastor of Vickers Memorial Baptist Church, and the Rev. George M. Phillips Jr., pastor of Zion Christian Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. Charles M. Neese
WHITSETT - Mr. Charles Martin Neese, 31, of 1909 Amethius Ridge Road, Raleigh, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
He was the husband of Mrs. Wendy Brantley Neese of Raleigh, and the son of Mr. Leondas Ray Neese of Whitsett and Mrs. Sandra Carson Rudd of Snow Camp.
Survivors include a sister, Ms. Sharon N. Edmiston of Chapel Hill; one brother, Mr. Ray Neese Jr. of Whitsett; and two grandfathers, Mr. Leondas M. Neese of Julian and Mr. Charles A. Carson Sr. of Madison.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hope United Church of Christ in Whitsett. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A memorial service will be held in Raleigh at a later date.

Mrs. Amanda Hanvey dies at age 107
DANVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Amanda Ragle Hanvey, 107, formerly of 1435 Claiborne St., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Stratford Health Care Center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Edward Lee Hanvey, and the daughter of Mr. A.L. Ragle and Mrs. Mary Jane Evans Ragle, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary H. Gatewood of Hampton, Va.; 21 grandchildren, some of whom live in Burlington; and several great-grandchildren, some of whom live in Burlington.
She was preceded in death by five sons, Mr. Norman Hanvey, Mr. Joe Hanvey, Mr. Edward Hanvey, Mr. Carl Hanvey and Mr. Richard Hanvey; two sisters, Ms. Nola Ragle and Ms. Vina Carr; and two brothers, Mr. Andy Ragle and Mr. John Ragle.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Highland Burial Park in Danville by Dr. Tom Evans.
