Mr. Don E. Boggs Sr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Don E. Boggs Sr., 85, of 607 E. Willowbrook Drive, died at 11:35 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center, after several years of failing health, two weeks critical.

Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mr. Everett B. Pegg

GRAHAM - Mr. Everett Baine Pegg, 94, of 308 Mill St., died at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center after several months of failing health.

A native of Buncombe County, he was the husband of Mrs. Emma Wilson Pegg, who survives, and the late Mrs. Thelma Lewis Pegg. He was the son of Mr. Rufus Loton Pegg and Mrs. Leora Westmoreland Pegg, both deceased. He was retired from textile manufacturing and was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church, where he was the Sunday school superintendent for 25 years.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Linda Strout of Graham; a sister, Mr. Lucille Miller of Siler City; a brother, Mr. R. Ernest Pegg of Snow Camp; two stepsons, the Rev. Bobby Lamb of Richmond, Va., and Mr. Donnie Lamb of Wilmington; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Willis, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Lamb, pastor of Walmsley Boulevard United Methodist Church in Richmond. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Elizabeth Morrow

ARLINGTON, Texas - Mrs. Elizabeth Sanders Morrow, 78, formerly of Burlington, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 1998, in Arlington.

Born March 25, 1919, in Pageland, S.C., she was the wife of the late Mr. Daniel Carter Morrow. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Daniel S. Morrow of Waterford, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. James (Mary) Burnette of Arlington; and one grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Durham Regent Chapel, 3007 Pickett Road, Durham.

Mr. Cecil J. Jones Sr.

HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Cecil Joseph Jones Sr., 78, of 412 Orange Heights Loop Road, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at his home.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband for 35 years of Mrs. Pearl M. Jones, who survives, and the son of Mr. Lawrence Jones and Mrs. Mammie Price Jones, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Cone Mills and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his wife include five daughters, Ms. Marie Newcomer of Haw River, Ms. Sue Holmes of Richmond, Va., Ms. Connie A. Hatton of Goldsboro, Ms. Pauline Bullock of Burlington and Ms. Debbie Pittillo of Shelby; a sister Ms. Fannie Crabtree of Hillsborough; a brother, Mr. Bryan Metts of Hillsborough; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Cecil J. Jones Jr.; and a daughter, Ms. Betsy Ray.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Fairview Baptist Church by the Rev. Hoyt Shuford and Dr. Tom Elliott. Burial will be in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery.

Memorial may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, P.O. Box 751, Hillsborough, N.C. 27278.

Mr. Ledbetter Rogers

BURLINGTON - Mr. Ledbetter Rogers of 882 Green Valley, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Veterans Administration Medical Center after a long illness.

A native of Person County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mae Belle Rogers and was a member of Warren's Chapel Baptist Church.

Sharpe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Verlie M. Brown

GREENSBORO - Mrs. Verlie Mildred Brown of 5 Bywood Court, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

A native of Greensboro, she was the daughter of Mrs. Verlie Jackson Walker, who survives, and the late Mr. Robert Clyde Walker. She graduated from Jordan Sellars High School in Burlington and Pioneer Business School in Philadelphia. She worked as a secretary for Dr. I. Logan of Garner Stone Baptist Church in Baltimore, for the Hartford Department of Labor as a bookkeeper and for the U.S. Government in Germany as a secretary, before returning to Greensboro. Upon returning to Greensboro, she worked at P. Lorillard. She was a member of the Greensboro Senior Choir, Lorillard Late Risers, Bowling League and East Baltimore Elks Lodge - Zorete Temple. She volunteered with the Greensboro Police Department and headed Night Out Against Crime. She was a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors other than her mother of Burlington include a brother, Mr. Moultrie Louis Walker of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Helen Brooks and Mrs. Sylvia W. Murray, both of Burlington.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at New Light Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Cardes H. Brown Jr., pastor. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

The family will be at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Mr. Thomas Bracey

BURLINGTON - Mr. Thomas 'Bell Star' Bracey, 48, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham after an illness of several months.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Lallie Stanfield Bracey; a sister, Mrs. Jean Hill of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Benjamin Bracey of South Hill, Va., and Mr. Costella Bracey of Richmond, Va.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Baptist Church in South Hill.

Mrs. Mary H. Coble

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Mary Hicks Coble, 97, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Wesley Care Center.

Born March 9, 1900, in Winston-Salem, she was the wife of the late Mr. Russell Cooke Coble Sr. She attended Elon College and began teaching school at age 17. She later graduated from Catawba College and taught school for more than 50 years in Goldsboro, High Point, Concord and Sanford. She was a member of Charlotte's First United Methodist Church where she was a teacher and member of the United Methodist Women. She received numerous teaching awards, was an active volunteer and member of various civic organizations.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Russell Coble of North Augusta, S.C., and Mr. Jim Coble of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Burlington.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Home, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215.

Mrs. Martha J. Goche

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Martha J. Goche, 58, of 321-D Atwood Drive, died at 6:08 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at her home.

A native of Eau Gulle, Wis., she was the wife of the late Mr. Donald Goche, and the daughter of Mr. Elmer Weisbrod and the late Mrs. Gertrude Prigge Weisbrod, both deceased. She was a retired chief of supply at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Montrose, N.Y. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Eric Goche of Durham; a daughter, Ms. Anita Goche of Pittsboro; a brother, Mr. Wayne Weisbrod of Waverly, Iowa; a sister, Ms. Darlene Boese of Houston; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City, Iowa, by the Rev. James J. Viba.

The family will be at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City from 7 to 9 Monday evening.

Mrs. Irene F. Phillips

REIDSVILLE - Mrs. Irene Ferguson Phillips, 81, of 2135 S. Scales St., died at 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at her home after a long illness. She was a former resident of Elon College.

A native of Rockingham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Edgar Wilburn Phillips, and the daughter of Mr. William Lee Ferguson and Mrs. Ella Mae Spearman Ferguson, both deceased. She was retired from Belk Beck stores. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Elon College, where she was a former member of the Edith Poole Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women and the Happy Morning Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church on Scales Street, Reidsville, where she was active in Sunday school, Bible study, the Lively Bunch and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Michael W. Phillips of Toledo, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Janie Perkins of Clayton, Mrs. Margie Clemmons of Greensboro and Miss Ruth Ferguson of Reidsville; two brothers, Mr. Watson Ferguson of Richmond, Va., and Mr. Haywood Ferguson of Reidsville; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Magnolia cemetery by the Rev. William Wolfe and the Rev. David A. Wyant, pastor of First United Methodist Church on Scales Street.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church on Scales Street.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 Sunday evening.

Mrs. Ardelia Whitmore

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ardelia Whitmore, 67, of 2619 William Allen Road, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of several weeks.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Lonnie Whitmore and Mrs. Florence Parker Whitmore, both deceased.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Faucette of Burlington and Mrs. Florence Clay of Roxboro; four brothers, Mr. Kent Whitmore of Hackettstown, N.J., Mr. Lawson Whitmore of Burlington, Mr. Clifton Whitmore of Seattle, and Mr. Glenn Whitmore of Troy, Ohio.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Martin's Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Albert Morrow. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Lois B. Johnson

GRAHAM - Mrs. Lois Braxton Johnson, 85, of 5280 E. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after a two-week illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. John Hanks Johnson, and the daughter of Mr. Isham Braxton and Mrs. Sallie Jane Jones Braxton, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Concord United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Betty Hearn of Moncure; two sons, Mr. Charles L. Johnson and Mr. Jon A. Johnson, both of Graham; one sister, Mrs. Avis Johnson of Graham; four brothers, Mr. Ira Braxton and Mr. Rebert Braxton, both of Graham, Mr. Winfred Braxton of Chapel Hill and Mr. Calvin Braxton of Snow Camp; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

McClure Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
