Mr. Leon W. Massey

BURLINGTON - Mr. Leon Walters Massey, 85, a resident of Alamance Health Care Center, died at 6:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at the center after one year of failing health, two weeks critical. He was a former resident of 2543 Carolina Road.

A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Dobbs Massey, who died in 1994, and the son of Mr. Nathan Thomas Massey and Mrs. Nancy Jane Cobb Massey, both deceased. He was a retired farmer and hosiery worker. He was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, a member of the Gold Star Sunday School Class, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two sisters, Ms. Exie Massey and Ms. Effie Massey, both of Burlington; and one brother, Mr. Hubert Massey of Liberty.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Claude C. Massey and a sister, Mrs. Ethel M. Brooks.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glen Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Stephenson, associate pastor of the church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of a nephew, Mr. Dale Massey, 208 Brompton Court, Burlington.

Mrs. Louise Fogleman

WHITSETT - Mrs. Louise Whitesell Fogleman, 62, of 714 N.C. 61 South, died at 8:55 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of Mr. Dewey L. Fogleman, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Mattie Pauline Chrismon Whitesell and the late Mr. Vance Dick Whitesell. She owned and operated Louise's Coiffures for 20 years, and later was bookkeeper for D.L. Fogleman Trucking Co. for 18 years. She was a former member of the Burlington Moose Lodge. She was a member of Apple's Chapel United Church of Christ.

Survivors other than her husband of the home and her mother of McLeansville include four brothers, Mr. John F. Whitesell of Pleasant Garden, Mr. Dwight L. Whitesell of Reidsville, Mr. Gary D. Whitesell and Mr. Michael L. Whitesell, both of McLeansville; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret W. Clapp of McLeansville and Mrs. Deborah Case of Gibsonville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apple's Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Allen Myers, pastor, the Rev. Lester Stanley and the Rev. Jess Montegudo. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The body will be placed in the church at 5 this evening; the family will be at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Miss Monica E. Guy

GRAHAM - Miss Monica Elaine Guy, 21, of 410 W. Whitsett St., Apt. 3, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Melvin Guy and Mrs. Sharon Robinson Guy, who survive.

Survivors other than her parents include two sons, Mr. Keyvon Guy and Mr. Quentin Guy; two sisters, Ms. Yolanda Guy and Ms. Niki Guy, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Mr. Robert Robinson of Sanford and Mrs. Mary Robinson of Burlington; and paternal grandfather, Mr. Albert Guy Jr. of Elon College.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mamie Guy, and a brother, Mr. Leslie Crocker.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Harold Carr. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mrs. Sue Harrington

COLUMBUS - Mrs. Sue Mattox Harrington, 76, of Laurel Lake Drive, Tryon Estates, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Tryon Estates Medical Facility. She was a resident of Vero Beach, Fla., for 30 years.

A native of Pinetops, she was the wife of Lt. Col. Robert N. Harrington, who died in 1963, and the daughter of Mr. Luther A. Mattox and Mrs. Octavia Dunn Mattox, both deceased. She received a bachelor of science degree in physical education from the University of North Carolina Women's College in Greensboro in 1943.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Bob Harrington of Burlington; a daughter, Ms. Dale Harrington of Boone; a brother, Mr. Dana Mattox of Balsam; a sister, Ms. Hilda Linz of Frederick, Md.; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 421 N. Trade St., Tryon, N.C. 28782.

McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Raymond Moore

SNOW CAMP - Mr. Raymond M. Moore, 65, of 1355 Quakenbush Road, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A native of Alamance County, he was employed with Brookwood Farms in Siler City and was owner/operator of F&M Small Engines. He attended Cane Creek Friends Meeting and was retired from the Snow Camp Fire Department.

Survivors include three daughters, Ms. Ellen Ludington of Siler city, Ms. Annette Petty of Virginia Beach, Va., and Ms. Susan Wills of Snow Camp; two brothers, Mr. Harold Moore of Browns Summit and Mr. James Small of Bradenton, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cane Creek Friends Meeting. Burial will be in Cane Creek Cemetery.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. Doug Wills and Mrs. Susan Wills, 2464 Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Snow Camp.

Memorials may be made to the N.C. Friends Disaster Service, 5506 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27410.

Mr. Robert Nicholson Sr.

EFLAND - Mr. Robert Ervin 'Nick' Nicholson Sr., 77, of 3211 Forrest Ave., died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home after a five-year illness.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Eunice 'Beanie' Adams Nicholson, and the son of Mr. James Albert Nicholson and Mrs. Cora Jobe Nicholson, both deceased. He was retired from Western Electric Co. and ENT Surveys. He was a member of Efland United Methodist Church. He was a foster parent for many years, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Linda N. Gibson of Burlington and Mrs. Ann N. Crabtree of Efland; four sons, Mr. Robert E. Nicholson Jr. of Hillsborough, Mr. Daryl Nicholson of Efland, Mr. James H. Nicholson of Cedar Grove and Mr. Robert Thompson of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Atkins of Hillsborough, Mrs. Rozelle Martin and Mrs. Josephine Burgess, both of Mebane; two brothers, Mr. Arnold Nicholson of Mebane and Mr. Tom Nicholson of Hillsborough; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. James Albert Nicholson Jr.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Efland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Weaver and Chaplain Richard Grey. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times, at the home.

Mrs. Erie W. Hamilton

GRAHAM - Mrs. Erie Whitesell Hamilton, 91, of Graham, died at 10:13 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Britthaven Nursing Home of Chapel Hill after several years of failing health, one month critical.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Charles C. Hamilton, and the daughter of Mr. Jacob Whitesell and Mrs. Mary Summers Whitesell, both deceased. She was retired from Dura Tread Hosiery, and attended Community Baptist Church.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Ralph Rivers. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times, at the home of a niece, Mrs. Jean Andrews, 317 Moser St., Graham.

Mr. George W. Pegram

GRAHAM - Mr. George Wilbur Pegram, 76, of 413 Walker Ave., died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after four weeks of failing health, one week critical.

A native of Halifax County, he was the husband of Mrs. Ruth Atkins Pegram, who survives, and the son of Mr. Willie Henry Pegram and Mrs. Martha Frances Hardy Pegram, both deceased. He was retired from Gate City Towing and Recovery in Greensboro, and formerly worked as a mechanic with Associated Transport. He was a Baptist.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include one son, Mr. Larry George Pegram of Burlington; one sister, Mrs. Reba P. Jones of North, S.C.; three step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Todd Martin and the Rev. Vernon Brady. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Ruby L. Fann

ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Ruby Lowe Fann, 79, of 2169 Fann's Trail, died at 9:52 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Johnny T. Fann, and the daughter of Mr. Bosie E. Lowe and Mrs. Dora Howerton Lowe, both deceased. She was retired from Frissell Fabrics and a member of Frieden Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Bobby F. Fann of Altamahaw and Mr. Larry E. Fann of Drexel; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bobby Fann, pastor of Glen Raven Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times, at the home of the Rev. Bobby Fann, 3615 Altamahaw-Union Ridge Road.

Mrs. Clara H. Sandle

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Clara H. Sandle, 78, of 606 N. Fisher St., died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Jesse L. Sandle, and the daughter of Mr. Charlie Bell and Mrs. Viola Herbin, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Alamance County Hospital. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Areme Chapter of the Eastern Star Lodge of Scottish Rites Masonic Order. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Glen Raven, where she was a former member of the Senior Choir, the Usher Board and the Missionary Society, and was a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Delana Mae Adams of Bronx, N.Y.; a brother, Mr. McKenzie Bell of Reidsville; and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glen Raven First Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in St. John's AME Church cemetery in Gibsonville.

The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Wednesday evening, with the Eastern Star Rites at 7 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Mr. John Spicer Jr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. John Spicer Jr., 90, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Al/-a/-mance Health Care Center.

A native of Wayne County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Cora 'Cokie' Collier Spicer, and the son of Dr. John Spicer Sr. and Mrs. Laura Kirby Spicer, both deceased. He was retired from E.I. DuPont Nemours after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where he was a past member of the vestry and was a past volunteer for the soup kitchen. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 208, Goldsboro County Club, Walnut Creek County Club and was a past member of the board of the Goldsboro Downtown Development Corporation.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Thomas E. (Susan S.) Ryan of Burlington and Mrs. Richard T. (Mary S. 'Molly') Hood of Richmond, Va.; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Willow Dale cemetery by the Rev. Bill Brettman.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 200 N. James St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro is in charge of arrangements.
