Mr. Harold L. Bryant

BURLINGTON - Mr. Harold Lloyd Bryant, 62, of 2525 Dare St., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home after two years of failing health.

A native of Bladen County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Joyce O'Connor Bryant, and the son of Mr. James Andrew Bryant and Mrs. Alta Coble Bryant, both deceased. He was a retired truck driver for Associated Transport and Yellow Freight. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and a member of Bula Lodge No. 409 AF&AM.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Debra B. VanNortwick of Dale City, Va., and Miss Kathy Bryant of Burlington; a son, Mr. Gary Bryant of Burlington; four sisters, Mrs. Maxine Woodburn of Elizabethtown, Mrs. Martha Kornegay of Hillsborough, Mrs. Alice Jones of Climax and Mrs. Mary Barhard of Amelia, Va.; three brothers, Mr. James P. Bryant of Selma, Mr. Kenneth Bryant of California and Mr. Andy Bryant of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Thomas Bryant and Mr. David Bryant.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Randy Hobbs, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Jack Terrell

BURLINGTON - Mr. Jack Hayes Terrell, 74, of 1824 N.C. 49 North, died at 4:27 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at the Hospice Home of Burlington.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Evelyn Maness 'Pete' Terrell, who survives, and the son of Mr. Joseph Anderson Terrell and Mrs. Mary Mac Hayes Terrell, both deceased. He retired after 35 years of service from Southern Bell and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bula Lodge 409 AF&AM, where he was the lodge master in 1962, former certified lecturer, coached new members for 44 years and received the Life Membership Award. He was an honorary member of the Bingham and Hominy lodges. He hand carved 886 walking canes with all monies received going to the Oxford Orphanage. He was a member of Haw River Christian Church, where he was a deacon, taught Sunday school and hand carved the 'Last Supper' in the church vestibule.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Realini of Graham; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and one great-step grandchild.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Mr. Harold A. Terrell, Mr. Richard H. Terrell, Mr. Melvin D. Terrell and Mr. Joseph B. Terrell.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Haw River Christian Church by the Rev. James L. Rosser. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Longs Chapel Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Bula Lodge 409 AF&AM will open at 12:30 p.m. Friday for Emergent Communication.

Mr. Charles Lowry Jr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Charles William 'Bill' Lowry Jr., 49, of 406 Kernodle Drive, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of several weeks.

A native of Augusta, Ga., he was the son of Mr. Charles William Lowry Sr. and Mrs. Adele Jones Lowry, who both survive. He moved to Burlington in 1955. He was a graduate of Duke University and the University of Exeter in Exeter, England. He had a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was a graduate of the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church. He taught at Jordan High School in Durham from 1987 to 1993 and was a teacher at Graham High School in the English Department since 1993. He was elected to the 1998 edition of 'Who's Who Among America's Teachers' and was a Presenter at the N.C. English Conference. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter.

Survivors include his parents of Burlington.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter by the Rev. David Williams, rector, and the Rev. Michael Dunnington, assistant rector. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at the parlor of the church one hour before the service, and at other times at the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Lowry Sr., 1327 Burlingate Place, Burlington.

Memorials may be made to the Music Fund of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, 320 E. Davis St., Burlington, N.C. 27215; or to a charity of choice.

Mrs. Rose C. Garrett

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Rose Curtis Garrett, 73, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., formerly of Liberty, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Fla., after a short illness.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James Homer Garrett, and the daughter of Mr. Carl C. Curtis and Mrs. Leona Nellie Russell Curtis, both deceased. She was a member of Westminster Gardens Presbyterian Church in Palm Beach Gardens and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Old Dixie Volunteer Fire Department in Lake Park, Fla.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Peggy Garrett) Osbourne of Palm Beach Gardens; two grandchildren; and other relatives in Alamance County.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Charles Adams. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 Friday evening.

Mrs. Gladys E. Davis

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Gladys Lucille Watkins Edwards Davis, 81, of Alamance Heath Care Center, died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after a critical illness of two weeks.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Thurman Davis, and the daughter of Mr. Lawrence Watkins and Mrs. Emma Wicker Watkins, both deceased. She was retired from Frissell Fabrics and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Lawrence Edwards of Burlington; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Robert M. Disher Jr., pastor of St. Mark's Reformed Church. Burial will be in Bellemont United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and following the graveside service, the family will be in the fellowship hall of Bellemont United Methodist Church. At other times, the family will be at the home of the son, 4211-18 Bellemont-Mt. Hermon Road, Burlington.

Mrs. Catherine Halbert

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Catherine 'Kay' Burns Halbert, of 3760 Seabury Court, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Alma P. Fox

SILER CITY - Mrs. Alma Perry Fox, 92, of 3935 Orange Lake Drive, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Siler City, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

A native of Chatham County, she was the wife of Mr. Slocum Robert Fox, who died in 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alluwee Fox Stephens of Graham and Mrs. Patricia Fox Richardson of Orlando; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Loves Creek Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening.

Mrs. Linda S. Eaton

PULASKI, Va. - Mrs. Linda Shockley Eaton, 47, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Columbia Community Hospital after a critical illness of three weeks.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of Mr. Clayford Eaton, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Opal Taylor Shockley, who survives, and the late Mr. Joe Shockley. She was a homemaker.

Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother include four daughters, Mrs. Robin McClendon of Graham, Mrs. Christy Whitley of Mebane, Miss Donna Eaton and Miss Debbie Eaton, both of the home; two sons, Mr. C.J. Eaton and Mr. William Eaton, both of the home; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Cindy Warren, Mrs. Judy Taylor and Mrs. Shelia Eaton, all of Pulaski; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Self of Burlington and Mrs. Peggy Tippett of Bessemer City; a brother, Mr. Steve Shockley of Pulaski; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at Vest Funeral Home in Giles County, Va., by the Rev. Johnny Hash, pastor of Eatons' Chapel Church. Burial will be in Eatons' Chapel Church cemetery.

ALAMANCE - Mrs. Emma Sharpe Wellons, of 2957 Elder Lane, died at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Willa W. Hood

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Willa Walker Hood, 87, formerly of Canterbury Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Belmont Terrace Nursing Home in Bremerton, Wash.

Mrs. Ruth S. Clapp

GREENSBORO - Mrs. Ruth Smith Clapp, 82, of 1416 N.C. 61, Whitsett, died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Guilford Healthcare Center.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Otis E. Clapp, and the daughter of Mr. Albert L. Smith and Mrs. Lizzie Barber Smith, both deceased. She was a retired textile employee and was a member of Brick Reformed United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Helen S. Whitesell of Whitsett; and a brother, Mr. Paul R. Smith of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Miss Cathleen Smith and Miss Carleen Smith; and two brothers, Mr. Richard Glen Smith and Mr. Kelly L. Smith.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Robert C. Boyd, pastor of Brick Reformed United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Brick Reformed United Church of Christ cemetery.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 Friday evening.

Mrs. Mary T. Wheeler

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mary Thelma Terry Wheeler, 97, of Rehabilitation and Heath Care Center of Alamance, formerly of Burlington Homes, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at her home after two years of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lonnie T. Wheeler, and the daughter of Mr. James Taylor Terry and Mrs. Ruth Ellen Ray Terry, both deceased. She was a member of Graham Friends Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Duggins and Mrs. Levi (Betty) Hester, both of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Nance of Graham; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Pat Brame; two sons, Mr. Lonnie T. Wheeler Jr. and Mr. Homer G. Wheeler; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Johnson and Mrs. Mattie Linens; and five brothers, Mr. George Terry, Mr. 'Doc' Terry, Mr. Paul Terry, Mr. Silas Terry and Mr. James Terry.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Howard Thompson, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God. Burial will be in the Meeting House cemetery of Cane Creek Friends Meeting.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Betty Hester, 2726 Terrace Drive, Burlington.

Mrs. Linda F. Lockemy

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Linda Jean Fuquay Lockemy, 45, of 601 Morehead St., died at 6:16 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill after a brief illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Walter James Fuquay and Mrs. Cora Alice Price Fuquay, both deceased. She was a self-employed baby sitter and a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Mr. William James 'Jamie' Lockemy of the home; a brother, Mr. Jimmy Fuquay of the home; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Jerry Tow, pastor of East Burlington Church of God.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 9 Thursday evening, and at other times at the home.
