Ruth Earlene Clonch Hicks, age 60 of China Grove, NC died Friday, May 9, 2003 at the Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Mrs. Hicks was born February 8, 1943 in Wilkes County to the late James and Dollie Clonch. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 12th at the Roten cemetery in Creston. Rev. Jim Francis will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 PM prior to the service. Mrs. Hicks is survived by: Husband: Issac Hicks Daughter: Angie Justice of Creston Brothers: Bob & Ted Clonch both of Wilkesboro Monroe Clonch of Lenoir, Donald Clonch of Salisbury & W. H. “Dubb” Clonch of Elkin Sisters: Elizabeth Trexler of Kannapolis, Jolene Adkins of Mt. City, TN, Juanita Anderson of China Grove & Grace Heagler of China Grove Several nieces and nephews also survive. Badger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Imogene Bowers McClure, age 74 of Lansing died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. McClure was born September 2, 1928 in Ashe County to Arthur and Cora Blackburn Bowers. Her parents, her husband, Paul McClure and son, Terry McClure, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 26th at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Sean Brigman, Rev. Chuck Call and Rev. J. D. Walton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Howell Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 till 8:30 PM Tuesday, March 25th at Badger Funeral Home. Mrs. McClure is survived by: 2 sons: Donnie McClure of Crumpler & Danny McClure of Jefferson 1 daughter: Vicky Ball of Grassy Creek 1 sister: Bonnie Blevins of Havre De Grace, MD 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren & 1 step great grandchild Badger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Hugh Davis Alexander, age 71 of Jefferson, NC died Monday, May 19, 2003 at his home. Mr. Alexander was born February 15, 1932 in Ashe County to the late Wake and Lena Alexander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Bledsoe Alexander. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 21st at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kirk McNeill will officiate and Rev. Bill Ballou will be the featured soloist. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends from 7:00 till 9:00 PM, Tuesday, May 20th at Badger Funeral Home. Mr. Alexander is survived by: Two Daughters: Judy Townsend of Hickory, NC and Teresa Blevins of West Jefferson, NC One Brother: Alen Alexander of West Jefferson, NC Five grandchildren also survive. James Badger
Born: February 23, 1922

James Alfred Badger, 81, of Jefferson, died Tuesday morning, April 1, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Mr. Badger was born Feb. 23, 1922 in Jefferson, NC to Roy R. and Bessie Hartsog Badger. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army in the European Campaign. He was a successful businessman who entertained many business adventures during his career. He is best remembered as owner and manager of Badger Funeral Home where he served Ashe and surrounding counties for fifty-six years. Mr. Badger was known for his kind and compassionate service offered to all people. He was an active member of the board of directors of Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. R.D. Williams, hospital administrator, stated: “Mr. Badger was a valued member of the Ashe Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees from 1988 to the present. His service on the board continued his family’s tradition of support for this hospital. Mr. Badger’s leadership and guidance will be missed.” He was also a retired member of the board of directors of First Citizens Bank. Mr. Badger exemplified a great love for his native Ashe County, where his many contributions and influences were used to promote the county. Mr. Badger’s special love for children afforded him the devotion of children of all ages. Ashe County’s friend, James A. Badger, will long be remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Funeral services for Mr. Badger will conducted on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Fletcher Baptist Church in Jefferson, NC by the Rev. Jeff Vogler, Rev. Bill Ballou and David VanHoy. The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 1:00-3:00 and Thursday evening from 6:00-9:00. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson with military rites. Mr. Badger is survived by his wife, Erma Hart Badger of the home. One son: Michael Badger of Jefferson; three daughters: Rebecca Houck of North Wilkesboro, Lois Miller and Jennifer Holman of Wilkesboro; one brother, Bill Badger of Jefferson; two sisters, Giona Badger Cook and Edith Badger Conklin both of Jefferson; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Memorials may be made to Ashe Memorial Hospital Foundation 300 Hospital Avenue Jefferson, NC 28640. Badger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Mark Rembert

Richard Mark Rembert, age 33, died May 8, 2003 at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born in Charlotte, NC on June 26, 1969 and moved to Ashe County in 1971 where he attended Lansing Elementary School and enjoyed the happiest of childhoods. He was employed for many years as Systems Manager for Bobbitt and Associates of Raleigh, NC. He is survived by his parents, George and Betty Rembert of Lansing, NC; one daughter, Megan Elizabeth Rembert of Clayton, NC; one brother, George Rembert III of Horse Shoe, NC; and two sisters, Andi Grier of Woodstock, GA and Marie Whaley of Lansing, NC. Funeral services will be private. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Badger Funeral Home, West Jefferson, NC. Memorials may be made to the North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27157.

Florence Peggy Miller age 72 of West Jefferson, NC died Friday, April 25, 2003 at the Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Miller was born on April 21, 2003 in Ashe County, NC to Frank and Addie Comer Jarvis. She was preceded in death by her sisters Ethel Holman, Pauline Houck, and brother Fred Jarvis. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2003 at 3:00 P.M. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jack Pugh and Rev. J.D. Walton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bald Mtn. Margaret Frances Dodd Haynes age 91 of Fleetwood, NC died Sunday, April 20, 2003 at her home. Mrs. Haynes was born in Madison, GA on February 12, 1912 to Walter Henley and Jessie Elizabeth Mallone Dodd. Her husband A.J. Haynes preceded her in death. Mrs. Haynes was an English and History Teacher for the North Carolina Public School System. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church. Dr. Rodney Werline will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 following the memorial service at the Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the NCAG Foundation, A.J. Scholarship Fund, NC Agricultural Campus 7645, Raleigh, NC 27695. Mrs. Haynes is survived by: Daughters: Mary Ann Younts of Greensboro, NC Frances Campbell of Taylorsville, NC 4 Grandchildren 6 Great Grandchildren and 2 Nieces.
