Robert L. Hammer
Funeral Mass for Robert L. Hammer, 74, Oriska, was held on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Oriska. Reverend Timothy Johnson celebrant. Mr. Hammer died Saturday, December 11, 2004 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Home, Lisbon.
Robert Lawrence Hammer, son of Max and Marie (Thilmony) Hammer was born on June 14, 1930 near Marion. He grew up in the Marion area where he attended Rosebud Country School until 1941 when the family moved to Oriska where Robert graduated from Oriska High School in 1950. On November 7, 1951 he joined the US Marine Corps in Minneapolis and served his country during the Korean War until his discharge on November 3, 1953 in San Diego, CA. After his discharge, Robert lived in California until 1959 when he returned to the Oriska area where he worked doing road construction until his retirement. Robert became a resident of the North Dakota Veterans Home in 2000.
He is survived by four brothers, Paul Hammer, Oriska, Fred (Jan) Hammer, Fargo, George (Gail) Hammer, Cave Creek, AZ and John (Lucille) Hammer, Braddock, ND; one sister, Theresa (Roger) Grover, Buena Vista, CO; and numerous nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bernard Hammer.
Interment at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery, Oriska.
Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Crowe
Funeral services for Robert L. Crowe, 71, Fargo, were held on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at First United Methodist Church, Fargo. Mr. Crowe died Thursday, December 9, 2004 at home.
Robert L. Crowe, son of Raymond and Rose (Davenport) Crowe was born on September 11, 1933 in Fargo. He attended schools in Fargo and Valley City. Following his education he joined the Marine corps in November of 1950. He went to Korea with the First Marine Division where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal with Combat “V” for heroic achievement in connection with operations against the enemy on August 15, 1952. In 1957 he went to Okinawa with the Third Marine Division. He was honorably discharged on December 10, 1959.
On August 27, 1957, he married Jean Kane in Valley City. They made their home in Fargo while he worked at General Diesel and Equipment then transferred to Minot in 1969. They returned to Fargo in 1977 when Bob took a job with NPN Equipment. He then worked at Power Brake Midwest until his retirement in January 1996. Jean died on September 12, 1995.
He married Phyllis Jegtvig on July 27, 1996 and together they owned and operated The 200 Restaurant and R and P Concession. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, a volunteer at MeritCare Hospital, a lifetime member of the Fargo VFW, AMVETS, and DAV. He was also a life member and current Commandant of the Roughrider Marine Corps League.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three children, Randell (Joan) Crowe, Arvilla, ND, Tamara (Jeffrey) Olson, Fargo, Trenton (Cheryl) Crowe, West Fargo; five step-children, Joyce Burns, Loveland, CO, Jacquelyn (Craig) Carlson, Fairbanks, AK, Jennifer (Jeff) Stickney, Dilworth, MN, Vince Jegtvig, Fargo, Jason Jegtvig, Moorhead; seven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Janet Hehr, LaMoure, Charlotte Rath, Hickson, ND, Susan (Roger) Brinklow, West Fargo, Judy (Alvin) Rath, Valley City, Margaret Schwab, Englevale; six brothers, Raymond (Penny) Crowe, Ravanna, OH, Charles (Mary) Crowe, Glyndon, Larry (Mary) Crowe, Valley City, Joel (Wanda) Crowe, Valley City, Bruce (Joyce) Crowe, Alexandria, MN Michael (Louise) Crowe, Casper, WY and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jean and sister Kathleen.
Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, was in charge of arrangements.

James W. Endersbe
James W. Endersbe Sr., 77, West Fargo, ND died on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at MeritCare Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND.
James was born on May 22, 1927 near Elliott, ND the son of Gladys and David Endersbe. He was raised in the Ransom County area where he attended school until joining the Navy in 1945. Jim married Beverly Stroh on March 18, 1947 in Aberdeen, SD. They farmed and ran a dairy operation until moving to Fargo. In Fargo, Jim worked at Smith’s City Service and Cass Clay Creamery where he retired with almost 25 years of service. After living in Fargo for a couple of years, Jim became a hobby farmer. This allowed his love of horses to become a family pastime.
Jim’s son, Jim Jr. and daughter-in-law, Jan as well as his son-in-law, Orel made many trips to his beautiful Badlands. His grandchildren could also be seen at his side during parades, horse shows, weekends in the sandhills and just playing in the barn.
His memory of a special event in his life was the Red River Centennial Wagon Train made from Abercrombie, ND to Bismarck, ND. Jim and friend, Ernie Fosse took a covered wagon pulled by Dan and Dolly and enjoyed a simple ride through God’s country which neither would ever forget.
Jim and Ernie met at Cass Clay Creamery and became best friends. They worked and played together in good times and bad.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly of West Fargo; daughter, Gail (Orel) Cossette of Fargo; son, James Jr. (Janice) of Mesa, AZ; four grandchildren, Cindy (Matt) Quibell of Hickson, ND, James (Kim) Cossette of Casselton, ND, Jess (Les) Sime of Rugby, ND and Jeana (Matt) Krabbenhoft of Sabin, MN; eight great “super” grandchildren; and a sister, Judy (Fred) Fahlsing of Bela Vista, AR. He also has a very special “son” Steve Narlock; a nephew, Larry Carter and uncle, Harley Endersbe who will miss his lively arguments and conversation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Gladys; sister, Joyce; cousin, Lois and his best friend, Ernie Fosse.
Funeral was held Friday at the West Funeral Home (temporary location, 133 Main Ave) in West Fargo. The Rev. Wayne Quibell will officiated.
Burial was at Horace Lutheran Cemetery, Horace, ND.

Sharon Streich
Sharon Streich, 61, passed away on November 30, 2004 in her home in Billings, MT with her family at her side.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Shelley, her sister, Darlene, her two brothers, Gary and Robert, and her grandchildren, Michael, Mary, and Jack. She was preceded in death by her brother Eldon and her parents, Orrin and Luella.
Sharon was born in Mesa, AZ on August 7, 1943, but grew up on her parents' farm just outside Englevale, ND and attended school in Lisbon. In 1969, Sharon moved to Chicago, IL, where she worked at a legal firm. She earned her BA in Liberal Arts and Science in 1970 from the University of Illinois. In 1984, she received her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago and became an attorney working for the same firm. Motivated by her love of the mountains, she moved to Denver, CO, in 1992 and enjoyed bragging about her view to her family. In 2003, she moved to Billings, MT so that she could be close to her brother, Gary, but still not too far from the mountains.
Funeral Mass was held on Monday, December 6, 2004 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Lisbon with Reverend Andrew Dudzinski as celebrant.
Pallbearers were Gary Streich, Robert Streich, Christopher Streich, Paul Anderson, Anthony Anderson and Chad Wagner.
Music was provided by organist, Genell Carlson, cantor, Sylvia Holmstrom and soloist, Christie Urbach.
Interment at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.

Allen D. Johnson
Funeral services for Allen D. Johnson, 74, Moorhead, MN, were held on Friday, December 10, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Allen D. Johnson, son of Clifford and Marie (Gulland) Johnson was born on May 16, 1930 on a farm near Leonard, where he grew up. He attended Helendale grade school and graduated from Leonard High School. In 1950 he graduated from Wahpeton (ND) State School of Science. Allen then joined the U.S. Army and was called to duty at Camp Rucker, AL.
In 1951, he married Janet Larson and they farmed near Doran, MN until 1982. Allen most recently worked for Reardon Office Equipment Inc., Moorhead. Allen was active in his church and the community. He was a long-time member of the Eagles Club, Fargo.
He is survived by three children, Donovan (Jimmie), Breckenridge, MN, Doreen, St. Paul, MN and Debora (Robert) Boyle, Prior Lake, MN; his mother, Marie Johnson, West Fargo; four grandchildren; four brothers, Leon (Virginia), Fargo, Jerroll (Vivian), Enderlin, Lyle (Betty) Kindred and Rollin (Jeanne), Leonard; a sister, Carol (Harlan) Johnson, Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his father Clifford.
Interment at Helendale Lutheran Church Cemetery, Leonard.

Gladys P. Schmidt
Funeral services for Gladys P. Schmidt, 88, Manorcare Health Services, Fargo, were held on Monday, December 6, 2004 at Fargo Baptist Church, Fargo. Mrs. Schmidt died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 in Manorcare Health Services, Fargo.
Gladys Kyllo, was born on July 1, 1916 in Big Sandy, MT. The family moved to Galesburg, ND when she was a young girl. She grew up in Galesburg where she attended Greenfield School.
On July 16, 1938, she married Ernest O. Schmidt in Portland, ND. The couple lived in various communities, including Galesburg, Erie, Page and in 1956 moved to Fargo. She worked as a babysitter in clients’ homes. She was very active in her church. She lived at Pioneer Manor until September 2003 when she entered ManorCare.
She is survived by one son, Norman (Elda), Fridley, MN; three daughters, Barbara (Allen) Stensgard, Enderlin, Judi (Ben) Green, Gardner, ND and Linda (Marvin) Walz, West Fargo; 12 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester (Jenny) Kyllo, Laguna Woods, CA; three sisters, Erma Peterson, Hillsboro, Lillian Berry, Seal Beach, CA and Betty Jones, Long Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest who died in 1986.
Interment at Hope Cemetery, Hope, ND.

Harold F. Spitzer
Funeral services for Harold F. Spitzer, 78, Enderlin, were held on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Mike Toomey officiated. Mr. Spitzer died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at SCCI Hospital in Fargo.
Harold F. Spitzer, son of Fred and Mary (Schulz) Spitzer was born on June 30, 1926 in rural Enderlin. He attended Lucca, ND school.
On September 10, 1950, he married Betty Fiscus in Lisbon.They farmed near Enderlin. Harold retired in 1987. Harold served on the Board of Directors for Enderlin Grain Co., Pontiac Township Board and Trinity Church Council.
He is survived by his wife Betty Spitzer, rural Enderlin; one son, Lowell (Emma) Valley City; two daughters, Lonna Dehn, Fargo, Sharee (Tim) Femling, Felton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Esther Anderson and Leonora Chambers and brothers, Ed, Cecil and Clarence Chambers. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kerry.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Wilbur Schlect, Vernell Lindemann, Mike Dehn, Joe Schmitz, Duane Geske and Dan Lahlum. Honorary pallbearers were Merlin Skramstad, Willard Lee, George Lee and Keith Buchanan.
Music was provided by organist Joan Schlect and Jerry Oliver family were vocalists.
Interment at Pontiac Cemetery, rural Enderlin.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, was in charge of arrangements.

Judith N. Johnson
Funeral services for Judith N. Johnson, 61, Mesa, AZ, were held on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson officiated. Miss Johnson died Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Banner Baywood Medical Center, Mesa, AZ
Judith N. Johnson, daughter of Eugene and Bess R. (Hallquist) Johnson was born on April 5, 1943 in Fargo. She graduated from high school in Lisbon. Judy attended Concordia College and ASU in Tempe, AZ, graduating from ASU.
Judy taught school in Phoenix and Mesa, AZ.
She is survived by her father Eugene Johnson, Mesa, AZ.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Harold Dick, Jim Dick, Gerald Dick, Brian Hallquist, Donald Hallquist and Renetta Bowman.
Music was provided by organist Mary Jo Smith and soloist Joan Montgomery.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.
