Esther E. Arntson
Funeral services for Esther E. Arntson, 92, Sheldon, ND, were held on Friday, May 13, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Mike Toomey officiated. Mrs. Arntson died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at her home.
Esther E. Kellerman, daughter of Frank and Emma (Manske) Kellerman was born on March 12, 1913 at Highland Township in Cass County. She grew up on a farm and attended Highland School in Cass County. She also attended school in Sheldon. She worked at Sheldon Telephone Company.
On August 24, 1936, she married Newman Arntson at First Lutheran Church, Fargo. She and Newman were married for 68 years. Esther and Newman farmed for a number of years near Sheldon. They also raised shorthorn cattle and hogs. Esther was active in Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran Church and had received her 25 year pin. She also taught Sunday School and was a homemaker. She sewed numerous quilts and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and drives in the country. Esther enjoyed her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Newman Arntson, Sheldon; three daughters, Avis Arntson, Sheldon, Karen (Herman) Pederson, Enderlin; and Sharon Wiederholt, Bismarck. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brent (Jenn) Wiederholt, Mobridge, Brenda (Ben) Kirkeby, Fargo, Bradley (Christa) Wiederholt, Grand Forks, Beth (John) Warford, Bismarck, and Susan Pederson, Lisbon. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Daysia Wiederholt, Ashton Wiederholt, Alexis Kirkeby and Chloe Warford. She is survived by her sisters and brother, Lorraine Hanson, Enderlin, Irene (Reinhold) Saar, Enderlin, Robert (Jean), Kellerman, Enderlin, Eloise (Milton) Baarstad, Fargo; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Kaber, Enderlin. She was preceded by her parents, son-in-law, Rich Wiederholt, great-grandson, Jaxon Wiederholt, her sisters, Alice Torgeson, Violet Erbstsoesser, brothers, Lawrence Kellerman, Clarence Kellerman, brothers-in-law, Noel Torgenson, Frank Erbstoesser, Berger Hanson, as well as a sister-in-law Mazel Kellerman. Esther will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Howard Wallner, Ron Halvorson, Russell Bueling, Roy Spiekermeier, Bob McRitchie and Steve Luther.
Music was provided by organist Gretchen Hoy and soloist Bobby Geske.
Interment at the Enderlin Cemetery.

Doris E. Olson
Funeral services for Doris E. Olson, 75, Lisbon, ND, were held on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mrs. Olson died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Doris E. Olson, daughter of Noah and Marie (Stockstad) Jouberg was born on October 22, 1929 in Fryburg, ND. She attended Fryburg School and graduated from Gwinner High School. She attended Ellendale Teacher’s College.
On July 16, 1948, she married Willis Olson in Lisbon.Mrs. Olson taught school for one year at Bale Township School near Lisbon before her marriage. They farmed near Lisbon. They moved into Lisbon in 1986. They moved to Sibley in 1988. They moved to Valley City in 1992. The returned to Lisbon in 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Willis Olson, Lisbon; five sons, Steve, Lisbon, Nels (Cindy), Hettinger, Bryan (Joyce), Lisbon, David (Susanne), Lisbon, Tim (Mary), Fargo; one daughter, Sandy (Tim) Nathe, Fargo; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul, Gwinner, Jerry (Darlene), Wahpeton, Kenneth (Susan), North Bend, OR; six sisters, Alethe Krause, Walla Walla, WA, Norma Schuessler, Lisbon, Marilyn Matteson, Yorktown, TX, Edith (Larry) Raatz, Valley City, Kathryn Ingman, Dickinson, and Margaret (Ronald) Sagvold, Lisbon. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rita and Julie.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Kevin Nathe, Matthew Olson, Joshua Mundt, Shane Mundt, Jonathan Olson, Christopher Olson, Jason Hassbrock, Blaine Hassbrock and Justin Mundt. Honorary pallbearers were Lisa Knap, Julie Olson, Twyla Olson, Bethany Olson and Ashley Olson.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Larry Ketterling.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Wallace A. Radcliffe
Funeral services for Wallace “Wally” A. Radcliffe, 75, Hermiston, OR, were held on Thursday, April 14, 2005 in the Chapel of Burns Mortuary, Hermiston. Mr. Radcliffe died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at his home in Hermiston.
Wallace A. Radcliffe, son of William and Mary (Bartholomay) Radcliffe was born on September 6, 1928 in Leonard, ND. The family moved to Amenia, ND in 1937 where he worked on the family farm and attended school. In 1951 he was drafted in the U.S. Army Artillery and was sent to Korea. In April of 1960 he received an Honorable Discharge as a Cpl (E-4). During his service he received the Korean Service Medal, with four bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
In 1954, he married Ruth Helling. They lived in Blanchard, ND where they farmed and had an Ayrshire dairy herd. They later moved to Enderlin where he purchased a Minneapolis Moline Implement Store. They later divorced.
He married Mary (Sprankle) Lofing, in Coeur d’Alene, ID on February 11, 1966. He worked for the Pendleton Grain Growers as a truck driver. In 1971 he transferred to the Pendleton Grain Growers in Hermiston, OR where he worked until his retirement in 1995. They made their home in Hermiston. She died in November 2004.
He is survived by his sons, Dennis Lofing, Hermiston, David Radcliffe, Poughkeepsie, NY; daughters, Sandy (Steve) Hunter, Hermiston, Judy Radcliffe, Seattle, WA, Barbara Radcliffe, Ames, IA; brothers, Jim Radcliffe, Lisbon, Jerry Radcliffe, Fargo and Dwight Radcliffe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents, brother, Don Radcliffe and sister, Janice Dalzell.
Military honors and interment at Hermiston Cemetery.
Burns Mortuary, Hermiston, OR, was in charge of arrangements.

John E. Schiffner
Funeral services for John E. Schiffner, 64, Verona, ND, were held on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Verona. Reverend David Isaacson and Reverend Norman Anderson officiated. Mr. Schiffner died Saturday, May 7, 2005 at his home in Verona.
John E. Schiffner son of George and Gertrude (McDaniel) Schiffner was born on May 23, 1940 in Fargo, ND. He attended school in Englevale, rural Verona and Verona. He was in the U.S. Army from 1959-1965.
On July 20, 1962, he married Susan Maley in Verona. Mr. Schiffner worked at Bohlken’s Hardware in Lisbon for several years, where they lived until 1970 when they moved near Verona. The moved to Verona in 1975. He worked for Ruhn’s Farm Supply in Oakes for several years, Berube’s in Lisbon and SD Wheat Growers in Oakes.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Schiffner, Verona; five daughters, Kim (Craig), Good, LaMoure, Loretta (Bill) Christian, Rogers, MN, Linda Larson, Rogers, MN, Lisa (Jason) Day, Burnsville, MN, Karla (Mike) Huether, Hillsboro; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald (Beverly), Fargo, James (Joanie), Lake Park, MN and one sister, Pat (Neal) Steinberg, Shawano, WI.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Mitchell Maley, Marty Maley, Chad Raatz, Greg Eull, Mark Schiffner and Jordan Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Marlene Dahl and soloist Gwen Thielges.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Arnold Odegard
Memorial services for Arnold “Arnie” Odegard, 80, Milnor, ND, were held on Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Milnor Lutheran Church. Reverend Pricilla Hukki officiated. Mr. Odegard died on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 in his home under Hospice.
Arnold Odegard, son of Mathias and Guri (Byhre) Odegard was born on April 15, 1925, near Milnor, where he grew up and attended school in Shuman Township. He lived in the Milnor area all his life. In 1944, he entered the US Army serving his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946, and returned to Milnor.
On July 14, 1950, he married Yvonne Sveum. The couple made their home in Milnor. Mr. Odegard worked at the Melroe Company in Gwinner from 1957 until retiring in 1984. He then worked as the groundskeeper and mechanic at the Lakeview Golf Course in Milnor from 1990-2005.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, Milnor; one son, Steve (Vanessa), West Fargo; three daughters, Vickie (Terry) Nelson, Milnor, Darla (Robert) Schutt, Milnor, Tammy Odegard, Manteca, CA; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Severt Odegard, Ceres, CA; and one sister, Selma Odegard, Milnor.
Honorary pallbearers for the funeral were all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Kim Mund and soloist Bob Schutt.
Smith-Thune American Legion Post #148 and Gibbon-Miller VFW Post #9069 presented military rites.
Interment at Concordia Cemetery, Near Milnor.

Helga L. Thoreson
Memorial services for Helga Hesse Thoreson, 92, Valley City, ND, were held on Friday, May 13, 2005 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Reverend Paul Huso officiated. Mrs. Thoreson died Monday, May 9, 2005 at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Helga Lillian Nellermoe, daughter of Andrew and Marie (Nelson) Nellermoe was born on January 18, 1913 in Beach, ND. She attended school in Beach and graduated from high school there in 1933.
In 1934, she married Herbert Dewey Hesse. They made their home in Beach. In 1937 they moved to Valley City. Mrs. Hesse worked for 40 years in Valley City at various restaurants and other businesses and was deputy city auditor before retiring to Arizona. Mr. Hesse died in 1969.
On December 26, 1971, she married Martin Thoreson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. They made their home in rural Kathryn, wintering in Casa Grande, AZ. They later moved to Casa Grande, where they lived for 25 years. Due to health reasons, they moved back to North Dakota. They lived in Grand Forks for a few years before moving back to Valley City. They entered Sheyenne Care Center in August of 2004. He died October 20, 2004. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City for 40 years, she was also in the choir. She was also formerly a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She was currently a member of Sons of Norway.
She is survived by four sons, Jerry (Erma) Hesse, Bozeman, MT, Del Hesse, Sandy, OR, Myron Hesse, Coolidge, AZ and Vaughn (Pauline) Hesse, Grand Forks; 10 grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carlot Nellermoe, Miles City, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Herbert and Martin; four brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter, Shaundel Hesse.
Interment at Memory Gardens, Valley City.
Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, was in charge of arrangements.

Kingman Young Bear
Kingman Young Bear, 81, Lisbon, ND, formerly of Cannon Ball, ND died, Thursday, May 5, 2005 in the Lisbon Area Health Services, Lisbon, ND. Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 12, 2005 in the Youth Activity Center, Cannon Ball with Reverend Neil Two Bear and Reverend Lindsey Dwarf officiated. Burial was held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military rites by the Albert Grass Post, Fort Yates, Matthew American Horse Post, Cannon Ball and Standing Rock Vietnam Veterans.
Kingman was born October 28, 1923 at Cannon Ball, ND to Frank and Margaret (Rattling Tail) Young Bear. He was raised and educated in the Cannon Ball area. He worked on farms and ranches in the Fort Yates area and enjoyed baseball and cooking. Kingman served in the US Navy from 1942-45. In 1960 he became a resident of the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon.
He is survived by two sisters, Colleen Mosholder, Hannaford, Jackie Miller, Fort Yates, one half-sister, Fern Young Bear, Fort Yates; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kingman was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Franklin, Calvin and Willis; two half-brothers, Larry and Leslie; and four sisters, Marlene, Camilla, Annabell and Estelle.
Arrangements are being made by Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, ND.
