Nancy Beth Halvorson was born April 17, 1957, to Lester Halvorson and C. Norma (Oksendahl) Halvorson in Rugby, N.D. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Rugby High School in 1975. Nancy obtained a general management certificate from Minot Sate College in 1976, and was then employed at Myhre’s clothing store in Rugby. She met her future husband, a groomsman at their brother’s wedding, in 1977, and on June 17, 1978, she married Bruce Due of Fessenden, N.D. The couple moved to Wahpeton that same year, where she worked at the Globe Gazette gift store until the birth of her first son. Following the birth of her second son, she began family childcare, which she continued after moving to Cando, N.D. In 1991, Nancy and her family moved back to Wahpeton where she began studies in health information technology at North Dakota State College of Science. After graduating, she was employed at Dakota Clinic in 1994 where she worked as a file clerk before transitioning to the coding department. She remained at Dakota Clinic (Innovis Health) for 16 years, working continuously, despite being diagnosed with colon cancer in summer of 1998, and stomach cancer in 2010. She stood resolute through multiple reoccurrences, enduring repeated surgeries and chemotherapy. In the summer of 2010 she resigned from Innovis Health to dedicate her final time to friends and family.

Nancy was determined worker, but even greater was her generosity as a caregiver. Raised by her mother and siblings following her father’s early passing, Nancy was a nourishing presence to everyone around her. Visitors were amazed at the comfort of her home and the flowers cultivated at her hands. Unwavering, she remembered birthdays and anniversaries, and kept meticulous lists for such things as: family camping trips, Christmas gifts and endless grocery shopping. Warmth surrounded Nancy, and as a sunflower following the light, she cherished time in the garden and the lake. Her stories remembered childhood friends and meeting the love of her life. She surrounded herself with angels - pewter, plastic and in person. So it was that Nancy thrived on family, faith and friends. Imparting final charge, she said, “take care of each other.”

She is survived by: her husband, Bruce Due, Wahpeton; sons, Trevor (Val) Due, Fargo, N.D., and Brandon (Leigh) Due, Maplewood, Minn.; her mother, Norma (Mel) Blessum, Rugby; sisters, Lorna (Dale) Hammerlund, Oslo, Minn., and Lois (Larry) Sattler, West Fargo, N.D.; brothers, Steve (Kathy) Halvorson, Rugby, and Rick (Kathy) Halvorson, Whitewater, Wis.; two grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by: her father Lester.

The family is grateful for care provided by Riveredge Hospice, and the many friends and relatives supporting her. Arrangements have been made through Vertin-Munson funeral Home of Wahpeton. Memorial donations can be made in Nancy’s name to Riveredge Hospice, Bethel Lutheran Church and Caring Bridge.
