Florence Bohn

Florence Bohn, 92, of Wahpeton, ND, formerly Mantador, ND passed away October 7, 2015 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Visitation will be 9:30-11:00am on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Mantador, ND, with Mass at 11:00am. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Mantador, following the Mass.

Florence Anna Foertsch was born February 14, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Rieland) Foertsch, on their farm near Mantador, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, Mantador; attended grades 1-11 in Mantador; and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1941. On November 4, 1946, she married Wilbur Bohn at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church rectory in Mantador. They lived on the Bohn farm near Great Bend, ND until 1948 when they moved to the Mantador area to farm until retirement in 1981.

Florence was a life-long member of St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, served on the Altar Society, and was a Christian Mother. She loved farming, fishing, bowling, playing cards, sewing, quilting, fixing puzzles, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Carole (Gary) Gilbertson of Inver Grove Heights, MN; two granddaughters Tami (Don) Peplinski, and Tanya Gilbertson, all of Eagan, MN; three great-grandchildren Paige, Cole and Brooke Peplinski, of Eagan; a brother Arnold Foertsch of Hankinson, ND; a sister Marie (Clifford) Novotny of Indianapolis, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three sisters (Alvina Althoff/Klosterman, Evelyn Dosie and Elarine Pelzl). In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to The Leach Home.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff at The Leach Home who took exceptional care of her during her last years.

Grace Medenwaldt

Grace Medenwaldt, 95 of Hankinson, ND passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN. Funeral services will be Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hankinson, ND with Rev. Adam Moline officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hankinson, ND. Visitation will be Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at Immanuel Lutheran Church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Pallbearers are: Zach Medenwaldt, Dominik Silvernale, Tristian Silvernale, Caleb Rinnels, Dean Prochnow & Bruce Remore. Honorary pallbearers are: all her grandchildren & great grandchildren. Organist will be Bev Grohnke.

Grace Emelia Adella Ziegelmann was born May 12, 1919 in Wahpeton, ND the daughter of Adolph and Dorothea (Gast) Ziegelmann. She grew up on a farm in rural Great Bend, ND and attended Brandenburg Township, Parochial school, 1 mile south of Great Bend and Great Bend High School. On May, 1932 she was confirmed in Great Bend. On June 18, 1937 she was united in marriage to Alfred Ferdinand Albert Medenwaldt at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, ND. Alfred passed away on October 2, 1987.

Grace was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hankinson, ND. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of L.W.M.L. and also served as secretary. She worked at Bill’s Café, Sandra Kay Bakery and St. Gerard’s Hospital & Nursing Home.

Grace is survived by her children: Alfred Jr. (Vickie) Medenwaldt, Wahpeton, ND; Gayle Ahrens, Wheaton, MN and Gloria Smith, Milo, Missouri; sister: Velma Schneeweis, Moorhead, MN; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Adolph & Dorothea Ziegelmann; husband: Alfred Medenwaldt; son: Glen Medenwaldt; sister: Frances Prochnow; sons-in-law: Randolph Ahrens, Jr. and Joseph Smith and a granddaughter: Tami Lacky.

Leona Clara Lindell

Leona Clara Lindell, 98 of Sisseton, SD, formerly of Veblen, SD, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD. Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Veblen, SD with burial at Veblen Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Leona Clara Berend was born on March 28, 1917 in Dora Township near Vergas, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Johanna (Ostrowski) Berend. Leona was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Vergas. She grew up and attended school in the same area.

Leona worked various jobs in Fargo for several years. It was while she was working as a dental assistant in Fargo that she met Milton Lindell. They were married on December 27, 1947 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo. After their marriage they made their home in Veblen, South Dakota where they raised their children, Paul and Lois. After retirement Leona and Milton spent many enjoyable winters in Mesa, Arizona. In 2014 they moved into Tekakwitha Care Center in Sisseton, South Dakota.

Leona was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, worked as a youth group leader and was a member of WELCA. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Leona was an avid reader all her life. She also enjoyed golfing, traveling and preparing wonderful home cooked dinners for family and friends. Most important of all to her were her family and her church.

She is survived by her husband Milton, son Paul of Saint Paul, Minnesota, daughter Lois (Paul) Wegleitner of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and eight brothers.

Lillie Witt

Lillie Witt, 102 of Hankinson, ND passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Gerard’s Community of Care, Hankinson, ND. Funeral service will Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. John’s Belford Lutheran Church, rural Hankinson, ND with burial at St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2016 from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Frank Family Funeral Home, Hankinson, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Lillie Hulda Witt was born January 27, 1914 in Brandenberg Township, rural Hankinson, ND the daughter of Herman and Justine (Stoltenow) Gehler. She grew up on the farm, attended country school and worked on the family farm. On September 24, 1936 she was united in marriage to Robert Witt at Great Bend, ND. After their marriage they farmed in the Hankinson area.

Lillie enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, baking, gardening & canning. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a member of St. John’s Belford Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter: Marilyn Kath, Hankinson, ND; sister: Ethel Wurl, Wahpeton, ND; daughter-in-law: Mavis Witt, Hankinson, ND; grandchildren: Melody (Dave) Hanson, Sheree (Robert) Foertsch, Dean Witt, Donnie (Janna) Witt, Dave (Amy) Witt, Rocky Kath, Randy (Janelle) Kath; granddaughter-in-law: Tammy Kath; great grandchildren: Shawn & Shelby Hanson, Michelle (Dan) Kirchberg, Joe (Jaime) Foertsch, Kayla (Joe) Burchill, Krista Foertsch, Brigitte, Nicole, Nicolas Witt, Emily Witt, Ethan & Myla Witt, Alex, Levi, Cody & Julia Witt, Race, Ryan, Ruston Kath & Raegan Kath. Great-great grandchildren: Ashley & Austin Kirchberg, Jace Foertsch, Jackson Allard, Silas & Rowan Burchill.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Herman and Justine Gehler; husband: Robert Witt; son: Delmer Witt; brothers: Ewald and Ted; sisters: Lena, Bertha and Alma grandchildren: Riley Kath, Dale Witt and Wayne Witt; son-in-law: Russell Kath.

Lois Battrick

Lois Battrick, 86 of Lidgerwood, ND passed away peacefully on September 3, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge, MN. A family gathering was held Friday, September 4 at her home in Lidgerwood.

Lois will be remembered & missed by her husband, Calvin; 4 children: Richard, Kathy, Judy & Daniel. Lois has numerous grandchildren & family members that will miss her & 3 granddaughters: Kimmy, Katie & Sadie that were close with her and spent much time with her before she passed.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents: Ray & Effie Williams & brothers: Tom & Bob Williams.

Marjorie Ann (Flados) Pankow

Marjorie Ann (Flados) Pankow, 85 of Wahpeton, ND passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. Funeral service will be Monday, April 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, ND with burial at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Visitation will be Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 3-5 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. all at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Marjorie was born on the family farm near Havana, ND on May 3, 1929 to Morgan and Alma (Sjothun) Flados. She attended the rural school and was proud of the fact she was the rope jumping champion of Ransom Township #4 as well as the State Spelling Bee Champion. She graduated from Havana High School as Salutatorian at the age of 16. Following her college education she took her first teaching job in Buffalo, ND. On June 6, 1948 she married her husband of almost 67 years Arnold A. Pankow. She continued to teach at The Indian School in Wahpeton, ND, retiring in 1955 to raise their family.

During her lifetime she had multiple interests and talents. She was an excellent seamstress, sang at many events, a Girl Scout Council Chairman and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also served as secretary/treasurer for Fairview Cemetery Association for 25 years. Her main love was still teaching so she taught Sunday School, weekday religious classes, and summer Bible school for over 25 years at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. Marjorie passed away April 7, 2015 following a devastating fall, under the wonderful care of St. Catherine’s and CHI Home and Health Services (formerly Riveredge Hospice). She will be remembered for her giving nature, always willing to help someone, and as a wife, mother, Gramma, and Gramma-Great.

She is survived by her husband Arnold Pankow, daughters Patty Wanner, Mesa, AZ; Ronda (Weldon) Hoesel, Lidgerwood, ND; Dawn (Kevin Loll) Pankow, Wahpeton, ND; one son Kevin (Naomi) Pankow, Cando, ND; Son-in-Law Scott Mitzel, Aurora, IL; two sisters Doris (Carl) Olsen, Rosholt, SD; Kathleen Thomas, Battle Lake, MN. Her grandchildren: Christopher (Melissa) Wanner, Caren (Jerimy) Stanley, JuliAnna (Craig) Mauch, Jeret (Stephanie) Hoesel, Meagan (Charlie) Sinks, Nick Pankow (Special Friend Julie), Brandon Pankow, William Pankow (Special Friend Sierra), Brittany (Chad) Warren, Brandon (Marissa) Loll, Justin Loll, Tyler Loll, Lucas (Kristen) Mitzel, Logan Mitzel, and many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Sophie Mitzel, her parents Morgan and Alma Flados, two sisters Betty Elphinstone, and Lois Case.

She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and those who called her friend.

Marjorie Kathryn Jorgenson

Marjorie Kathryn Jorgenson, 65 of Wahpeton, ND formerly of Lidgerwood, ND passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. A funeral service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Frank Family Funeral Home, Lidgerwood, ND with Fr. Jason Lefor officiating. Visitation will be hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Marjorie Kathryn Jorgenson was born February 11, 1950 in Mille Lacs, MN the daughter of Albert Herman Sieg & Mildred Mary Lettenmaier. She grew up in the Valley City, ND area and attended school. She spent 11 years living in Lidgerwood, ND with her special friend Odg Bohnenstingl. In 2007 she entered the Golden Living Center and then St. Catherine’s, Wahpeton, ND.

Marjorie enjoyed bingo, collecting oriental decorations, cooking, riding motorcycle & any oldies music. She would organize the family gatherings around the holidays.

She is survived by her children: Melissa (Gary) Bohenstingl, Lidgerwood, ND, Rocky Miller, Lidgerwood, ND, Tina Abell, Valley City, ND, David Compson, Fargo, ND & Jared Jorgenson, Moorhead, MN; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; father: Maurice Miller and brothers: Richard Sieg & Robert Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents and special friend Odg Bohnenstingl.

Audrey Joan Berger - Peplinski

Audrey Joan Berger-Peplinski 77, of Lidgerwood, ND, formerly of Fargo, ND and Mandan, ND passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Elim Care Center in Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Elim Care Center Chapel in Fargo, ND with Pastor Lynn Dau as celebrant.

Audrey Joan Gartner was born June 30, 1938 in Hebron, ND to Paul and Margaret (Mattern) Gartner. She started school at Federal Way, WA. When she was 7 years old, her parents moved to Glen Ullin, ND where Audrey attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, grades 2-6. The family moved to Mandan, ND where she attended St. Joseph Catholic School. In 1952 she attended Mandan High School where she graduated from in 1956.

After graduation Audrey Joan married Gene Berger at Oceana Naval Base in Virginia Beach, VA on June 30, 1956. The two lived there until May 1957 when Gene was shipped out and Audrey returned to Mandan, ND and stayed with family until he returned.

They continued to live in Mandan and raise their family and had their first child, Allan in August 1958. In December 1962 the family moved to Fargo, ND and had their second child, a daughter, Susan in February 1964. In July 1965, Audrey and Gene were surprised with identical twin boys, Kevin and Keith. January 1967, once again had a little baby girl, Nancy. Audrey started part time work out of the home and in 1973 she and Gene separated ways but have remained close friends throughout the years.

Audrey attended college evening classes for accounting and business. Upon completion she started a job with Massey Ferguson in West Fargo as an accountant. On May 28, 1983 Audrey married Lavern Peplinski of Lidgerwood, ND. She and her youngest daughter moved to his farm near Wyndmere, ND. Audrey and Lavern started their life together, joining their two families and caring for her daughter and his two children, Edgar and Barb Peplinski. The two farmed until 1994 when Lavern retired from farming.

Audrey was a member of Dexter Township Homemakers for several years and served as president for many years as well. In 1999, Audrey started to have health problems that continued until her passing.

Audrey loved to socialize and attend family events. She enjoyed attending her children’s activities and events when they were growing up and then her grandchildren’s.

Her love for dancing was known to all and she always looked forward to attending weekly dances in Wahpeton and Barnesville, MN with her husband, Lavern.

Audrey spent her time on the farm helping care for her family and hosting gatherings for neighbors, friends and family. Her summers were filled with gardening with her in-laws and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Audrey will be remembered for her amazing bright smile and beautiful blue eyes that would brighten up any room and someone’s day. “If there is no sunshine, you need to make your own sunshine” was Audrey’s personal quote she lived by and shared with others.

Audrey is survived by her husband: Lavern Peplinski, Lidgerwood, ND: sister: Charmaine Miller, Mandan, ND; five children: Allan (Sharon) Berger & grandson: Matthew Berger, Bismarck, ND; Susan (Mark) Sellin & granddaughters: Lauren & Reagan, Hawley, MN; Kevin (Karla) Berger, Fargo, ND; Keith (Sheila) Berger & grandchildren: Jordyn & Jarod Berger, Fargo, ND; Nancy (Bradley) Zachow & grandsons: Nickolas & Devyn Haertling, Wyndmere, ND and Brayden Zachow, Aberdeen, SD; step children: Edgar & Barb Peplinski, Fargo, ND; father of her children: Gene Berger, Fargo, ND and special friends: Raymond Martinson & children: Abby, Paul & Sara, Milnor, ND

She is preceded in death by her parents Paul & Margaret Gartner; brother-in-law: Bert Miller.
