Jonathan L. Gifford
Funeral services for Pvt. Jonathan L. Gifford, 30, Decatur, were held on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in Maranatha Assembly of God. Pvt. Jonathan Lee Gifford died Sunday, March 23, 2003 while serving his country in Iraq.
Jonathan Lee Gifford, son of John and Vicky Gifford was born on October 30, 1972 in Decatur. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1991. He worked at Archer Daniels Midland Co. before enlisting in the Marine Corps in October 2001.
He is survived by his daughter, Lexie LeeAnn Gifford; former wife, parents, John Gifford and wife Carol, Decatur; mother, Vicky Langley and Husband, Decatur; sisters, Valerie Gifford, Decatur and Tiffany Blastenbrie and husband, Staff Sgt. Todd Blastenbrei, Decatur; grandparents, Ronald and Peggy Gifford and William and Reva Godfrey.
Interment at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown.
Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur was in charge of arrangements.

Marcel F. Saint
Funeral services for Marcel F. Saint, 81, McHenry, N.D., were held on Monday, May 5, 2003 at our Savior’s Lutheran Church, McHenry, N.D. Reverend Ray Branstiter and Pastoral Intern Julie Ballinger officiated. Mr. Saint died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at his home.
Marcel F. Saint, son of Emil and Margurite (Lepine) Saint was born on March 30, 1922 at McHenry, N.D. He graduated from McHenry High School in 1940l. Marcel entered the US Navy, serving from December 1940 through December 1944. He was assigned to the USS Reid at Pearl Harbor and witnessed the destruction of Battleship Row. He later fought at Guadalcanal, Tulagi and New Guinea. Upon his return he attended NDSU for a short time.
On January 15, 1951, he married Marilyn Aasand at McHenry. He worked for 30 years as a Rural Mail Carrier. He was the Clerk of the McHenry School for 24 years, and also served on the McHenry School Board. Marcel was a 50+ year member of the McHenry American Legion Post, was a charter member of the N.D. Pearl Harbor Association, charter member of the McHenry Ambulance Squad, and was one of seven people that started the McHenry movie theater. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where he had taught the local Bethel Bible Study and was also a youth group leader. Marcel had served as a Legion Baseball coach and as Boy Scout leader. He was on the McHenry Fire Department and had held the office of Fire Chief for a time, and was a member of the McHenry Loop Association.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Saint, McHenry; two sons, Randy Saint, Warroad, Minn., Jon Saint, Warroad, Minn.; four daughters, Rhea (John) Good, Fairfield, Iowa, Angela (Bill) Ames, Lisbon, Annette (Douglas) Bergman, Grand Forks, Jennifer (Darwin) Topp, Glenfield, N.D.; seven grandchildren; one brother, Emil Saint, Williston; two sisters, Marie Fossum, Jamestown and Leona (Orris) Sandbeck, Shelton, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Abbie, George and John and two baby sisters.
Pallbearers for the funeral were his grandchildren, Ryan Ames, Scott Ames, Lindsay Topp, Stephanie Topp, Brad Bergman, Carly Bergman and Morgan Bergman. Honorary pallbearers were all veterans in attendance.
Music was provided by organist Annola Black and soloist Julie Ballinger.
Military honors provided by Carl Bostrom American Legion Post #160, McHenry.
Interment at Bethlehem Cemetery, McHenry

Robert J. Mangin
Funeral services for Robert J. Mangin, 83, Waterloo, Iowa, formerly LaMoure, were held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo, Iowa. Mr. Mangin died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at Allen Hospital.
Robert J. Mangin, son of William and Clara (Gindt) Mangin was born on November 25, 1919 in Waterloo, Iowa.
On January 4, 1947, he married Mary “Jane” Johnson in Waterloo. Mr. Mangin was an HVAC technician for 30 years for Black Hawk Heating and Air conditioning which later became Dalton Plumbing and Heating, retiring from that company in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Mangin, Waterloo; six sons, Pat (Nora) Mangin, Waterloo, Pete (Pam) Mangin, Waterloo, Paul (Cathy Mangin, Clinton, Iowa, Mark (Denise) Mangin, Clinton, Iowa, Alan Mangin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Tony (Michelle) Mangin, Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, Kathy (Bill) Gales, Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Mangin, Lisbon, Dale, West Fargo, Bill, LaMoure; and one sister, Marianne Baumgartner, Valley City. He was preceded in death by one son, Mike.
Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evensdale AMVETS Post 31.
Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa.

Sheila J. Christensen
Funeral services for Sheila J. Christensen, 66, Layfayette, Colo., formerly Jamestown, N.D., were held on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Reverend Terry Anderson officiated. Mrs. Christensen died Sunday, May 4, 2003 at St. Anthony Hospital, Denver, Colo.
Sheila Jane Skonseng, daughter of Berner and Olive (Overn) Skonseng was born on November 14, 1936 at Fort Ransom. She moved with her family to Valley City as a child where she attended school, graduating from Valley City High School in 1955. She also attended Jamestown College.
On July 1, 1956, she married Gerald Christensen at Valley City. They resided in Jamestown until moving to Denver, Colo. in 1987. They moved to Lafayette, Colo. in 1989. Gerald died on February 23, 1999. Sheila had continued to reside in Lafayette. Sheila attended Erie Methodist Church, Lafayette, Colo. She was also a member of the Lafayette Elk Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, Larry (Nancy) Christensen, Jamestown; one daughter, Lori Rae, Lafayette, Colo.; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one brother, Alden (Arlene) Skonseng, Hackensack, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Christensen, parents, and two sisters.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

Violet F. M. Timm
Funeral services for Violet F. M. Timm, 98, Enderlin, were held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Mike Toomey officiated. Mrs. Timm died Monday, April 28, 2003 at her home.
Violet Schatzke, daughter of Gotthielf and Mathilda (Bleese) Schatzke, was born on January 9, 1905 in rural Enderlin. She attended school in rural Enderlin.
On June 19, 1945, she married Fred Timm. Violet lived and worked as a waitress in California for a short time before returning to Enderlin. She was a member Esther Circle at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Mr. Timm died November 10, 1972.
She is survived by one brother, Ralph (Emma) Schatzke, Leonard; and one sister, Rose Knauss, Portland, Ore.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Howard Wallner, David Tag, Jim Kurtz, Hubert Bleese, Merle Schatzke, and David Kurtz.
Music was provided by organist Joan Schlecht and soloist Bobby Geske.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.

Dennis E. Kudelka
Funeral services for Dennis E. Kudelka, 60, Lisbon, were held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson officiated. Mr. Kudelka died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Dennis E. Kudelka, son of Joseph and Genevieve (Wolf) Kudelka, was born on August 22, 1942, in Britton, S.D. He graduated from Sargent Central High School. He also attended NDSSS in Wahpeton. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1962-1964.
On May 23, 1965, he married Sharon Heath. They lived in Lisbon where Dennis worked for Berube, Inc. Dennis was a member of the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Dept., and was a past fire chief. He was a member of the VFW and Lisbon Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kudelka, Lisbon; mother-in-law Mary Heath, Milnor; three brothers, J. Cyril (Diana) Kudelka, Forman, Roger (Shirley) Kudelka, Forman, Tom (Joann) Kudelka, Naperville, Ill.; and one sister, Ruth Ann Kudelka, Forman.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Bob Faber, Ronnie Dick, Rick Mairs, Tom Ose, Paul Radcliffe, and Dennis Berube. Honorary pallbearers were his nieces and nephews
Music was provided by organist Cindy Hagel and soloist Mary Madsen.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Mary L. Skonseng
Funeral services for Mary L. Skonseng, 68, Fargo, were held on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo. Mrs. Skonseng died Tuesday, May 20 at her home in Fargo, N.D.
Mary L. Jorgenson, daughter of Clement and Lola (Krueger) Jorgenson was born on December 9, 1934 at rural Lisbon. She grew up at rural Lisbon.
On April 25, 1951, she married Norvald Skonseng at Camp Rucker, Dothan, Ala. They lived in Alabama for eight months before moving to Fargo in October of 1952. She operated a daycare in her home from 1954 until 1967. She was housekeeping supervisor at the Town House from 1967 until 1973. From 1973 until retiring in 1992, she worked with the maintenance department of the Fargo Public Schools, serving mostly at Fargo South High School. After retiring, she worked part time in the Pinehurst Apartments office in south Fargo for four years.
She is survived by her husband, Norvald, Fargo; one son, Myron (Joellen) Skonseng, Fargo; two daughters, Norine (Kenneth) Erickson, Lisbon, Cindy (Richard) Moerke, Hardwick, Minn.; mother, Lola Jorgenson, Lisbon; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Dale) Anderson, Lisbon, Betty Ekeren, Pacoima, Calif.; and one brother, Harold (Dorothy) Jorgenson, Lidgerwood.
Hanson-Runsvold, Fargo, was in charge of arrangements.

Irwin M. Johnson
Funeral services for Irwin M. Johnson, 70, Milnor, N.D., were held on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Trinithy Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Wayne Quibell officiated. Mr. Johnson died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at rural Milnor.
Irwin M. Johnson, son of Jamesand Ruth (Biesterfeld) M. Johnson was born on June 16, 1932 at rural Milnor. He attended school in rural Milnor.
Irwin farmed near Milnor. He was a member of the Fort Ransom Arena Association.
He is survived by four sisters, Edith Larson, Sheldon, Geraldine (Gerald) Hopewell, Leonard, Pearl (Don) Sweet, Lisbon, and Glenice Milbrandt, Cutbank Mont. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Yackley and Genevieve Gruba.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Jim Wall, Timm Berg, Todd Anderson, Arne Berg, Howard Hoff, Vern Williams, Don Biesterfeld, and Don Lloyd.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Dale Haugen.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
