Viola T. Johnson
Funeral services for Viola T. Johnson, 74, Valley City, were held on Friday, April 2, 2004 in the Buffalo Lutheran Church, Buffalo, N.D. Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, March 25, 2004 in Mesa, Ariz.
Viola Theresa Stangler was born on April 23, 1929 at Alice. She was raised and attended schools at Alice and Enderlin.
On July 31, 1947, she married
John L. Johnson at Page, N.D. They lived in the Alice and Buffalo, N.D. area until 1973, when they moved to Pelican Rapids, Minn. They lived in Pelican Rapids for 26 years and recently moved to Valley City. For many years, they spent winters in Arizona.
She is survived by her husband, John Johnson, Valley City, son, Joe (Marianne), Fargo; three daughters, Julie (Stanley) Roeder, Valley City, Vickey (Steve Vaillant) Bennett, Duluth, Minn., Holly (Orville) Kautz, Mesa, Ariz.; sister Aggie (Gene) Nygaard, West Fargo; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, twin daughters, Barbara and Caroline, two brothers, Bernard and Melvin and a son-in-law, Garry Kjelland.
Interment at Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo.

Ruth A. Rotenberger
Funeral services for Ruth A. Rotenberger, 60, Milnor, were held on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson and Reverend David Killeen officiated. Mrs. Rotenberger died Monday, March 29, 2004 at her home.
Ruth Ann Bartholomew, daughter of Willis and Edith (Magnuson) Bartholomew was born on September 30, 1943 in Starbuck, Minn. She graduated from high school in Barrett, Minn.
On May 1, 1965, she married
Ronald G. Rotenberger, in Barrett, Minn. They farmed near Milnor. She worked at Lisbon Area Health Services Nursing Home for several years and the N.D. Veterans Home for several years. She had been a 4-H leader for McLeod Ag, a member of Rosemeade Homemakers Club and Garden Club.
She is survived by three sons, Gary Rotenberger, Kalmar, Iowa, David Rotenberger, Milnor, and Paul Osowski, Fargo; one daughter, Carmen Krueger, Clinton, Iowa; her mother, Edith Bartholomew, Alexandria, Minn.; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Roger Bartholomew, Barrett, Minn., Leonard Bartholomew, Andover, Minn., Robert Bartholomew, Maple Grove, Minn.; and two sisters, Donna (Dave) Chan, Hamlake, Minn., and Shirley (Gary) Boysen, Farwell, Minn.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Todd Urbach, Doug Rotenberger, Andy Stroh, Jim Cahn, Mark Boysen, and Dale Boysen.
Music was provided by organist Cindy Hagel and soloist Charlene Rondestvedt.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon

Joan A. Willis
Funeral services for Joan A. Willis, 84, [town], were held on Thursday, February 19, 2004 in St. John Fisher Catholic Church, Portland, Ore. Mrs. Willis died Thursday, February 12, 2004 in Portland, Ore.
Joan Alberta Weiler, daughter of Edward and Winifred Weiler, was born on December 11, 1919 in Lisbon. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, Minneapolis and from Linfield College, McMinnville, Ore.
In 1942, she married
David E. Willis. They moved to Portland, Ore. in 1964. She was a homemaker and a registered nurse for St. Vincent Hospital, Portland. He died in 2001.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Lynn Parodi, Portland, Laura Jane Sowerwine, Oregon City, Ore. and Sarah Joan Wik, Walla Walla, Wash.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathleen Stiegler, Minneapolis and Rita Webber, Spokane, Wash.

Michael Cox
Funeral services for Michael Cox, 44, Berlin, N.D., were held on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Oakes. Father Robert Smith officiated. Mr. Cox died Saturday, March 27, 2004 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Michael Elsworth Cox, son of Elsworth and Elsie (Kania) Cox was born on April 10, 1959 at Oakes. After graduating from LaMoure High School, Michael lived in Jamestown for many years working various mechanic jobs.
On October 6, 1979, he married
Jeannie Mielke in Jamestown. He married
Helen Krien of Jamestown on August 22, 1992. In October of 1993 he became the owner and operator of MC Repair in Jamestown.
He is survived by his son, Cassidy, Mandan; his parents, Elsworth and Elsie Cox, Berlin; one sister, Cynthia (Ronald) Maley, Verona; two brothers, Robert (Christina) Cox, Berlin, and Mark (Roxanne) Cox, Berlin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Ryan, a brother, Patrick and his grandparents.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Evan Larson, Harley Schwind Jr., Robert Elton, Andy Cox, Albert Cox and Harley Schwind, Sr.
Music was provided by organist Sue Goehring. Norm Goehring and Bill Hanson were guitarists and Norm and Sue Goehring sang a duet.
Interment at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Berlin.

Sarah M. Gogolin
Funeral services for Sarah M. Gogolin, 83, Arthur, N.D., were held on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Church, Arthur, N.D. Mrs. Gogolin died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, Minn.
Sarah Mary Lako was born on June 30, 1920 in Wessington, S.D. She grew up in the Wessington area and attended school in Bonilla, S.D. She moved to North Dakota with her family and settled near Arthur.
On February 14, 1942, she married
Martinus F. Gogolin. They farmed near Arthur until 1974, when they retired and moved into Arthur. He died in August 23, 1994. Later that year, she moved to Casselwood in Casselton. She also resided at the Evergreens in Fargo and then Moorhead. She eventually made her home at Eventide. She was an active member of the Rose Valley Homemakers Club. She served for many years as the organist of St. John Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid and ALCW.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Fred) Hoppert, Milwaukee, Wis. and Jane Jalbert, Fargo, formerly of Sheldon and Lisbon; one son, James (Patti) Gogolin, Brainerd, Minn.; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and a grandson.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Todd Gust, Troy Gust, Jeff Jalbert, Jason Jalbert, Mike Gogolin, Seth Gogolin, Brian Bruhschwein and Michael Kilbourne.
Music was provided by organist Beth Buchholz and soloist Craig Olson.
Interment at Arthur Cemetery, Arthur, N.D.

Sandra K. Holen
Funeral services for Sandra K. Holen, 63, Minnetonka, Minn., were held on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at St. Phillip the Deacon Lutheran Church, Plymouth, Minn. Mrs. Holen died Thursday, March 25, 2004 of cancer at Priscilla’s Place in Richfield, Minn.
Sandra Rothhouse, daughter of Stanley and Faye Rothhouse was born on November 1, 1940 in Britton, S.D.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin (Laura) Holen and Chad Holen; six grandchildren; special friend, Don Tapper; sister, Helen (Lloyd) Wander; mother-in-law, Annie Holen, New Hope, Minn., formerly of Lisbon; sisters-in-law including Bess Nelson, Lisbon; brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Holen, her parents, two brothers who died in infancy, father-in-law Lars Holen and daughter-in-law, Michele Holen.
Cremation Society of Minnesota, Edina, Minn., was in charge of arrangements.
Frances V. Froeschle
A memorial service will be held for Frances V. Froeschle, 85, Atlanta, Ga., on June 23, 2004 in Fargo. Mrs. Froeschle died Thursday, April 8, 2004 in Atlanta.
Frances V. Bergland was born June 23, 1918 at Osnabrock, N.D., the daughter of the Rev. Hans and Hannah (Johnson) Bergland. The family moved to Hazen, N.D. in 1926, and she attended school there until 1932, when they moved to Bismarck, N.D. She graduated from high school there in 1934, and was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until her marriage to Ferd J. Froeschle in 1939.
They moved back to Hazen from California in 1941, where her husband was co-publisher of the Hazen Star until 1951, when they moved to Bismarck, where he was the city editor of the Bismarck Tribune.
In 1953, they moved to Lisbon to publish the Ransom County Gazette. It was there that Mrs. Froeschle began working in the newspaper business, which she continued for a number of years.
In 1961, they moved to Fargo, where her husband became news director for a group of television stations and she became active in Republican politics, becoming the first GOP woman elected to the state legislature from that city in the 1964 election.
She served just one term because they moved back to Lisbon when her husband joined the Melroe Manufacturing Company of Gwinner as advertising manager, a position he held until his retirement in 1981.
They had purchased a retirement home at Detroit Lakes, Minn. and moved there in 1977. She was offered the position of managing editor of the Detroit Lakes newspapers, a position she held until retirement.
After spending several winters in Mesa, Ariz., they moved there permanently in 1988. Mr. Froeschle died in 1990 after a lengthy illness.
Fran was a member of Velda Rose United Methodist Church.
She moved to Georgia to live with her oldest son, Joel, and his family in Atlanta, Ga. until the time of her death.
She is survived by three sons, Joel, Atlanta, Ga., Rudy, Jenks, Okla., and Paul, Fargo; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Gordon Fulkerson
Funeral services for Gordon “Gordy” Fulkerson, 78, Lisbon, were held Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon. Mr. Fulkerson died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon.
Gordon Fulkerson was born August 8, 1926 the son of George and Katherine (Satare) Fulkerson in Minneapolis, Minn. As a child Gordy moved with his family to Grand Forks. Gordy completed 13 years of education.
He served in the U.S. Navy from October 21, 1944 through May 2, 1946 during WWII. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he moved back to Grand Forks and lived with his family. He moved to the Veterans Home in 1968. He was involved with the American Legion, VFW, AmVets, and DAV.
Gordy is survived by a niece, Lori Grimison, Crestview, Fla. and her two sons. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lylah.
Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
