U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Rev. Frank H'lck

70, Retired pastor

The Rev. Frank H'lck, 70, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at St. Francis Skilled Care.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Most Rev. Lawrence J. McNamara will be the main celebrant. Concelebrants will be the Ordination Class of 1959 and include the Revs. Stephen Deaver, Tom Dillon, Ted Nekoliczak, Hugh Spanel, and lifelong friend, the Rev. Thomas O'Brien, and priests of the diocese of Grand Island. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with a 7 p.m. scripture rosary. Curran Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. H'lck was born March 2, 1933, at Trenton to Theodore and Margaret Ann (Sullivan) H'lck.

Survivors of the immediate family include three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Donald H'lck, Lee and Margaret H'lck and Ted and Nadean H'lck, all of Grand Island, and Rosemary H'lck of Newbury Park, Calif.

Others left to cherish his memory include several nephews and nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces.

He grew up and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from St. Mary's Cathedral High School. He continued his education at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, receiving his bachelor of arts degree as well as his master's degree in religious studies there. He was ordained a priest on May 19, 1959. He received his master of arts degree in education at Creighton University in Omaha.

He was a priest for the Diocese of Grand Island serving at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Central Catholic High School and St. Francis Hospital from 1959 to 1973. He was assigned to St. Patrick's in Sidney, serving as pastor from 1973 to 1980. From 1980 to 1988, he was pastor at Holy Spirit Church in North Platte and pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. From 1988 to 1993, he served as pastor of St. Patrick in Chadron. From 1993 to 1999, he was pastor at St. Michael's in Spalding. From 1999 to 2003, he was associate pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and also served as chaplain at Central Catholic High School. He retired in February 2003, having served the Grand Island Diocese for 44 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean H'lck.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Catholic Development Foundation, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.

Carolyn Anderson

POLK -- Carolyn A. Anderson, 66, of Polk died Friday, April 18, 2003, at York General Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Polk. The Revs. Anderson Kwankin and John Dale will officiate. Burial will be in the Polk Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.

Carolyn was born on March 27, 1937, in Paxton to Isaac Lewis and Sarah Fern (Miller) Draucker.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Leonard; a daughter and son-in-law, Kerri and Jack Garrison of Kearney; two sons, Alan F. Anderson of Chandler, Ariz., and Brad L. Anderson of Lincoln; and a sister, Wanda Draucker of Omaha.

Survivors also include two grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Garrison, and two cousins, Jerry and Barbara Draucker and Carol and Kenny Most, all of Ogallala.

The family lived in Sarben until Carolyn was 8 years old and they then moved to Benedict. Carolyn graduated from Benedict High School in 1954 and then from Kearney State College with a degree in education. She taught in Chappell, Cozad, and Mesa, Ariz.

On Jan. 30, 1966, Carolyn A. Draucker and Leonard F. Anderson were united in marriage in Benedict. They lived in the Polk area, where they farmed and Carolyn also did some substitute teaching and had worked for the Nebraska Department of Tourism for the last seven years.

Carolyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Polk and the UMW. She enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, music and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and half brother, Arnold Draucker.

Emma Anderson

STROMSBURG -- Emma M. Anderson, 100, of Stromsburg died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at MIdwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg. The Rev. Duane Tweeton will officiate.

Burial will be in the Stromsburg cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service on Thursday.

Eleanor Beck

GREELEY -- Eleanor B. Beck, 94, of Greeley, formerly of Scotia, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Greeley Care Home in Greeley.

Services are pending with Jacobson-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Roy Bockman

Roy H. Bockman Sr., 79, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sonderman Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Paul Currier

DONIPHAN -- Paul Jon Currier, 50, of Doniphan died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, following complications from heart surgery.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Hastings. The Rev. Richard J. Martindale will officiate.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7, at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Hastings.

Currier was born Oct. 11, 1952, in Detroit to James G. and Betty J. (Brink) Currier.

Survivors of the immediate family include a brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Patti Currier of Hastings, Mich.; and a sister, Sue McGuire of Corunna, Mich.

Other survivors include two nephews, Bryan McGuire of Corunna, Mich., and Brad Currier of Hastings, Mich.; one niece, Kelly McGuire of Corunna, Mich.; an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Brink of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and many cousins.

Paul grew up and received his education at Grand Rapids, Mich. He received his B.S. degree in Biology in 1974 from Alma College in Alma, Mich., his M.S. degree in 1979 and his Ph.D degree in 1982 in Botany (Plant Ecology) from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

In 1981, Paul joined the Platte River Whooping Crane Habitat Maintenance Trust, a land-based conservation organization headquartered near Wood River and in 1995 became Executive Director. During the past six years he has been an active participant in the Platte River Cooperative Agreement, a basin-wide forum including Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, the Department of the Interior, water users and environmental interests. In July of 2002, Paul was appointed to the Governor's Water Policy Task force that is examining Nebraska water law related to the connection between groundwater and surface water. During the past six summers, Paul has taught a four-week wetland ecology class for Iowa State University at the Iowa Lakeside Lab.

Paul was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Hastings, Neb. He was also a member of the following societies and organizations: British Ecological Society, Society of Wetland Scientists, Society for Range Management, Natural Areas Association, Prairie/Plains Resource Institute, Whooping Crane Conservation Association, International Crane Foundation, Nebraska Chapter Wildlife Society, Nebraska Academy of Sciences and the Nature Conservancy.

He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed gardening, hunting, can'ing, sailing and foreign travel. He has visited China, Tibet, Nepal, Turkey, East Africa and the British Virgin Islands in recent years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary M. Currier.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Platte River Whooping Crane Habitat or the donor's choice.

Nellie Goodrich

BURWELL -- Nellie Lucille Goodrich, 82, of Burwell, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Don Studley will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood cemetery at Burwell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Mrs. Goodrich was born Feb. 13, 1921, at Ericson to Charley and Allie (Clark) Smith.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Candy Goodrich of Gordon and Gale and Cheryle Goodrich of Burwell; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Dennis Ptacnik of Ord, Sherry and David Cline of Douglas, Wyo., and Wanda Goodrich of Burwell; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Perry and Hazel Smith of Burwell and Fay Smith of Burwell; and a sister, Pearl Freeman of Burwell.

Elnore Hanson

STROMSBURG -- Elnore Hanson, 86, of Stromsburg died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
