EDNA ELIZABETH WOOD, 102, of Monmouth Beach died Aug. 1 at King James Care Center, Middletown. Born in Monmouth Beach, she lived there until moving to the care center seven years ago. She was a teacher for the New Brunswick and Monmouth Beach boards of education for many years. She was elected president of the N.J. State Teachers Organization in 1938, and started the church library at Asbury Methodist Church, North Long Branch. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Charles Wood; and four sisters, Jennie, Jessie, Linda and Leila Wood. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Wood of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown; her brother-in-law, Barnard Taylor of Lewisburg, Pa.; five nieces; and three nieces. Services were arranged by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with interment at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.

VIRGINIA M. WYNDRUM, 91, of Colts Neck died Aug. 7 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, she lived in Garden City, N.Y., before moving to Colts Neck 37 years ago. She was a teacher for the New York City Public Schools. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro, as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph W. Wyndrum Sr. in 1978. She is survived by a son, Dr. Ralph W. Wyndrum Jr. of Fair Haven; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her caregiver, Gloria Baun. Services were arranged by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, with a Mass at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.

PHILEMON BURTON CRELIN, 71, of Middletown, died Aug. 10 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Red Bank, he previously lived there until moving to Middletown 41 years ago. He was an oiler on cranes for Operating Engineers Local 825, Springfield, for 28 years until retirement in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Reformed Church of the Tinton Falls section of Middletown. He was a volunteer fireman for the Union Hose Fire Co., Red Bank, since 1949. He was predeceased by his son, Robert D. Crelin, in 1955. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rose Marie Crelin of Middletown; two sons, Paul and daughter-in-law Sharon Crelin of Middletown, and William and daughter-in-law Thea Crelin of Red Bank; three daughters, Phyllis and son-in-law Thomas Celeste of the Belford section of Middletown, Judith and son-in-law George Stoll of Middletown, and Jacquelyn and son-in-law William Zimmerman of the Leonardo section of Middletown; and six grandchildren. Services were arranged by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

MARY ELEANOR ROBERTSON, 84, of Red Bank died Oct. 20 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Kingston, Pa., she lived in Elizabeth for 60 years before moving to Red Bank 16 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" Kenneth Robertson, in 1989; her twin sister, Ruth Rhone, as an infant; a brother, John Rhone, in 1998; and her parents, Harry and Elizabeth Jones Rhone. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Carol and Raymond Tomek of Upper Saddle River, and Mary Lynn and Joseph Francis McNamara Sr. of Middletown; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were arranged by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Interment was at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth.

HUGH J. GUNTHER, 77, of Shrewsbury died Oct. 22 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Trenton, he resided in Shrewsbury for 50 years. He was an electronic engineer at Fort Monmouth for 25 years, before retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Renee Rancich Gunther, in 1994. He is survived by two sons, Todd A. Gunther of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Kenneth S. Gunther of Bangor, Maine; a daughter, Denise Clymore of Bradenton, Fla.; a grandson, Christopher Clymore; and two granddaughters, Dana Clymore and Mallory Gunther. Services are at John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to Deborah Heart Foundation, N.J. Region, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills 08015-0820.

CHARLES RICHARD ADAM, 74, of Sanibel Island, Fla., died May 5. Mr. Adam was a former resident of Woodstock, Vt., Middletown and Rumson. He moved to Monmouth County in 1960. He was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and participated in the V12 Education Program, and attended RPI in New York and Stevens Tech. He served as a U.S. Naval Aircraft Gunner and ordinance man during World War II. He was co-founder and owner of COMAR Industries, a subcontractor to U.S. Rubber, and was the co-founder and owner of Cascade Industries/Buster Crabbe Swimming Pools International. During this time, Mr. Adam helped design and manufacture the bellows apparatus for the Iron Lung Breathing Machine. Mr. Adam loved woodworking and woodcarving. He was a talented furniture and oil painting restorer, and an ardent antique and art collector. He recently participated in online auctions. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He spent his early childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians. Mr. Adam was predeceased by his parents, Sarah and George G. Adam. Surviving are his wife, Marie T. Adam; a son and daughter-in-law, George C. and Cordie Adam, of Middletown; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Catherine B. and Brad Thorpe, of Fair Haven; a stepson and daughter-in-law, J.P. and Maria Baar, of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Donna Fleming, of San Diego, Calif.; and grandchildren, Charles "Chase" Adam, Chelsea and Cameron Thorpe, and J.P. Baar Jr. Services were under the direction of John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. There will be a private family service at George Washington Memorial Cemetery, Paramus.

PATRICIA A. (GRADY) McNAMARA, 70, of Oceanport, died May 3 at home. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in Oceanport since 1968. Mrs. McNamara retired last year after 25 years of service with Monmouth University, West Long Branch, where she was an office manager. Mrs. McNamara was predeceased by her husband, John J.; and a daughter, Linda Kozonasky, both in 1994. She is survived by two sons, John J. III, Ewing, and Mark, Oceanport; a daughter, Barbara Conover, Oceanport; and eight grandchildren. Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arney-town. The family requests that memorial donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, 07702.

ADAM AUGUSTUS "COACH" KRETOWICZ, 81, of Red Bank died Nov. 19 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Keene, N.H., he lived in Rumson prior to moving to Red Bank 10 years ago. He was the founder of, and agent for, Adams Real Estate Agency, Rumson. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He served with the U.S. Marines as a captain during World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Red Bank; and sat on the Board of Trustees of Georgian Court College, Lakewood. An avid athlete, he founded the athletic program at Red Bank Catholic High School; was a nationally recognized collegiate football player drafted by the N.Y. Giants; and was an athletic scout for his alma mater, Holy Cross College, Mass. He was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, Florence Davis Kretowicz; a daughter, Virginia Kretowicz; a granddaughter; four sisters; and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Fischer Kretowicz of Red Bank; two sons and one-daughter-in-law, Adam Augustus and Wendy Kretowicz Jr. of Wayland, Mass., and Michael David Kretowicz of San Francisco; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Carol Ann and Scott Comeau of Hingham, Mass., Florence Susan Guiver of Felton, Calif., Marylou and Edgar Mooney, Kathleen and Robert Petroff of Long Meadow, Mass., Annie Kretowicz of Atlanta, Ga., and Kim and Richard Nitto of Monmouth Beach; two sisters, Sylvia Abbott of Greensboro, N.C., and Joanne Anderson; 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson.

DOROTHY P. ALTHERR KELLY, 88, of Tinton Falls died Dec. 14 at Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Andover, Mass., and moved to Monmouth County in 1947. She was predeceased by her husbands, James Kelly, Ferris Altherr, and James Flynn Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Audrey Salava of Newmarket, N.H.; her son, Jimmy Flynn Jr. of Eatontown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

PATRICIA A. TIBBETTS HOURIHAN, 72, of Shrewsbury died Dec. 18 at The Medical Center at Princeton. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Keyport and Metuchen prior to moving to Shrewsbury more than 30 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Her hobbies included gardening, and volunteering at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, John P. Hourihan Sr., earlier this year. She is survived by her son, John P. Hourihan of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Barbara T. Pizonka of Valley Forge, Pa., and Kathleen E. O’Hara of Lawrenceville; two sisters, Judith Ihle of South Carolina, and Nancy Tibbetts of Arizona; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James Roman Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Keyport. Memorial donations may be made to Riverview Medical Center Rehabilitation, 1 Riverview Plaza, Red Bank 07701.

MARIE R. SARPA MARINO, 88, of Oceanport died Dec. 19 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Rumson and Sea Bright prior to moving to Oceanport three years ago. She was a telephone maker for Western Electric for 28 years, retiring in 1978. Her club affiliations included and AT&T Telephone Pioneers of America, and the Rumson Seniors. She is survived by her daughter, Marlene Mohney; four sisters, Gloria Brennan of Oceanport, Jean Singagliese of Hoboken, Kay Mellone of Las Vegas, Nev., and Josephine LoRocco of Long Branch; and several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and -nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Capital Improvement Fund, 408 Prospect St., Long Branch 07740.
