Robert T. Finch
Point Pleasant resident Robert T. Finch died Tuesday, June 12 in his home.

He was 76 years old.

He was a bartender at Peterson’s Sunset Cabin, Lakewood, for 25 years, retiring many years ago.

He was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant. Born in Lakewood, Ohio, he lived in Point Pleasant for the last 35 years.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Pruessman Finch; a son, John Block of Point Pleasant; a daughter, Cheryl Block Siara and her husband Marc of Point Pleasant; a sister, Jane White of Medina, Ohio; two grandsons, Joseph and Michael White; two granddaughters, Jessica Block Hall and Courtney Block Williams; and a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Sophia Williams.

All services were held privately under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, Brick. Many thanks to Hospice of New Jersey for their caring and compassion during this difficult time.

Nils Richard “Dick” Bergquist
Point Pleasant resident Nils Richard “Dick” Bergquist died Tuesday, June 12 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 77 years old.

Mr. Bergquist was a security guard at Revlon Security Company, Edison, for 17 years, retiring in 1992.

He served in the United States Navy from December 1948 to August 1952. He was a member of the American Legion in Melbourne, Fla.

He graduated in 1943 from Whittier School, Dunellen, and Point Pleasant Beach High School, Point Pleasant Beach in 1947. Born in Newark, he lived in Bay Head before moving to Point Pleasant 50 years ago.

He was predeceased by a son, Scott Lawrence Bergquist, in 1988; and two brothers, Robert Bergquist and Carl Bergquist.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Robinson Bergquist; two sons, Nils Bergquist Jr. of Brick, and Douglas Bergquist of Point Pleasant; a daughter, Lisa LaMere of Lackawaxen, Pa.; two brothers, Leonard Bergquist of Lakewood, and Kenneth Bergquist of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Mundy of Crumpler, N.C.; and nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Douglas, Kristopher, Daniel, Anastasia, Natalie, Monica, Cory, and Amy.

The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, handled the arrangements. Burial took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

Charles E. “Chick” Hazzard
Point Pleasant Beach resident Charles E. “Chick” Hazzard died Wednesday, June 13 in Meridian Nursing Home, Brick.

He was 92 years old.

He was a purchasing agent for Curtis Wright Corp., Rockland, retiring in 1970.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during peacetime.

Born in Paterson, he attended St. Mary’s School and Central High and was a 1932 graduate of Clifton High School.

Charles was an avid Yankees fan and an avid woodworker in his retirement. Pieces of high quality furniture and children’s toys that he handcrafted will be cherished by his friends and many family members, who were fortunate to be graced by his generosity.

He was past president of the Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Church in the Vailsburg section of Newark. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach. He also lived in Newark before moving to Point Pleasant Beach 37 years ago.

He was the devoted husband of the late Helen Hazzard, who died in 2003.

Uncle Chick, as he was affectionately called, leaves behind a legacy of love to his many nieces, nephews, numerous grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews, and his friends.

The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, handled the arrangements. Interment took place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Facility, Christian Brothers, 30 Montgomery Circle, New Rochelle, NY 10804.

William T. Moran
Wall Township resident William T. Moran, formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Sunday, June 17 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 80 years old.

He was an elementary school teacher in Maplewood and 13 years in Point Pleasant Borough Schools. In July 1970, he was appointed principal of the former Ocean Road School and served until July 1984, when he was assigned to assist the superintendent of schools.

During his early years in Point Pleasant, he became director of the Point Pleasant Beach Adult School Program until the Board of Education eliminated the program in March of 1974.

He was a graduate of Demarest High School, Hoboken.

He served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post in Point Pleasant Beach.

He then attended New Jersey State Teachers College in Jersey City, where he received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1951. In 1969, he received his master’s from Newark College specializing in administration and supervision of education.

He was predeceased by his Irish immigrant parents, John and Mary Ann Farrell Moran; two sons, William and Brian Moran; his two brothers, John and Peter Moran; and his sister, Evelyn Powers.

Surviving are his wife, Gerry Gifford Moran; a daughter, Kathleen Von Suskil and her husband Gary of Normandy Beach; and four grandchildren, Mary Kate and John Gary Von Suskil and Jedidiah and Julia Moran.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, handled the arrangements. Committal was at the convenience of the family.

Josephine Reilly Brown
Josephine Reilly Brown Stevenson [Jerrie] of Bay Head, and a long-time resident of Montclair, died on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Arden Courts in West Orange.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 581 Valley Road in Upper Montclair.

Jerrie was born in Montclair and graduated from the Montclair Kimberly Academy and the Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington D.C. She studied ballet in New York City with George Balanchine’s Ballet Society, a predecessor company of the New York City Ballet. She married the late William Turner Brown Jr. and is the mother of Bud Brown of Virginia Beach, Va. [spouse: Kitty], Patricia Brown-Feighery of Philadelphia, Pa. [Rob], Carolyn Brown-Kalthoff of Upper Montclair [Michael], and Andy Brown of Wyckoff [Stephanie]. The couple had nine grandchildren.

Jerrie is also survived by her sisters, Janet Finney and Jarvis Nolan, both of San Diego, Calif., and her sister-in-law, Jackie Sherwood, of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was predeceased by her second husband, G. Barnes Stevenson of Bay Head.

Jerrie founded the Jerrie Brown School of Ballet in Upper Montclair, where she taught for 25 years. She was a member of the Junior League of Montclair, the Montclair Operetta Club, the Montclair Golf Club, and the Bay Head Yacht Club.

Carol Apen Zima
Carol Apen Zima, 70, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Ocean Medical Center.

Born in Newark, to the late Michael and Eleanor Apen, she lived there and later in Edison, residing in Point Pleasant for 20 years.

For 32 years, Mrs. Zima worked for First Fidelity Bank, Newark, and retired as branch manager. She was a member of the Women’s Republican Club of Mantoloking-Bay Head.

Surviving are her beloved husband, of thirty years, Thomas Zima; his children; and grandchildren, Briana, Erik, and Michael Zima, Noah and Nicolas Magel, and Lance and Logan Zima.

Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant was in charge of arrangements. Cremation was private.

Lois H. Forsyth
Lois H. Forsyth, 96, of Bay Head, died Saturday, Jan. 5 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

Born in Rutherford, to the late Louis and Gertrude [Schroeder] Huesmann, she had lived in Rutherford and Mantoloking before moving to Bay Head in 1937.

Mrs. Forsyth was a self-employed seamstress. She collected sea glass, driftwood and angel figurines and now she is an angel. She was active in the Bay Head community and was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Bay Head.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph B. Forsyth in 2000 and her son Mark A. Forsyth in 1999.

Surviving are her sons, Joseph and his wife Pamela of Connecticut and Timothy and his wife Susan of Delray Beach, Fla.; her daughter, Margo Wright and her husband Gordon of Delray Beach, Fla.; one sister, Peggy Haehler of California; nine grandchildren, Gordon Wright, Vicky Hiering, Phillip Wright, Lisa Burke, Leigh Forsyth, Sarah Kern, Jason Forsyth, Casey Forsyth and Jack Forsyth; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Hiering, Jamie Hiering and Hannah Franco and her loving friend and caregiver, Nadia.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Dorothy Clark Haver
Dorothy Clark Haver, 88, of Brick, with family in Point Pleasant, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 1.

Born and raised in Watertown, N.Y., Dorothy moved to Manasquan in 1964 and in her later years resided at Brandywine Assisted Living in Brick.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Ellsworth “Bud” Haver and one brother Edward Clark.

She is survived by her four children William E. Haver of Newton, Bruce E. Haver of Stuart, Fla., Susan L. Pharo of Stuart, Fla. and Sally I. Bates of Point Pleasant, as well as five grandchildren: Jennifer Docherty, Lafayette; Lauren Scott, Stuart, Fla.; Sean Bates, Point Pleasant; Katie Cascio, Baltimore, Md.; and Ryan Pharo, Stuart, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren, Clara and Lillian Docherty and Nathaniel Scott.

Dorothy was employed as a telephone operator in Watertown prior to marriage. She was a devoted mother to her family and was a friend to everyone she met. In later years Dorothy was involved in P.T.A., Manasquan Ladies Auxiliary, and worked various retail positions.

Services will be conducted privately under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, Brick.
