In 1961, while working for RCA in Hoboken, he earned his Master in Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology.

In 1995 Tom received the Silver Mariner Award from USMMA. This award recognizes graduates of the USMMA who through their career have fulfilled the principal goal of the Academy.
