John Joseph Bormida Jr.
Brick resident John Joseph Bormida Jr., formerly of Belmar and Spring Lake Heights, died Sunday, Feb. 8 at Brick Hospital.

He was 72 years old.

John was born on May 2, 1936 in Baltimore, Md. He was raised in Belmar and lived in Spring Lake Heights for 40 years and then in Point Pleasant for nine years before moving to Brick one and one half years ago. John had been a proprietor of Bormida Heating & Cooling, Spring Lake Heights, and had also been employed as a fuel merchant for Farren Fuel Company, Belmar for 40 years before retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Fuel Merchants Association of New Jersey. He was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant and had served as a Eucharistic Minister at both St. Martha’s and St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. He was a proud graduate of St. Rose High School, Belmar, where he met his wife of 53 years, Althea, and was a member of the St. Rose High School Alumni Association. John was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 816, Asbury Park, and had served as the financial officer for several years. Recently he was honored by the Knights of Columbus council as an honorary member. As a younger man, he was active as a boy scout leader with St. Catharine’s parish, Spring Lake. John was a dedicated Villanova University basketball fan.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Althea [Cassidy] Bormida; his beloved children and their spouses, John J. III and wife Deborah of Browns Mills, Gregory J. and wife Geraldine of Toms River, Douglas M. of Brick and his girlfriend Sherry Schuster, Kevin P. and wife Claire of Spring Lake Heights, Joseph T. of Galloway Twp. and his fianceé Susan Scheirer, Kathleen Bormida Bogan and husband John IV of Point Pleasant, and Lisa Bormida Monaco and husband John of Havertown, Pa.; his twelve cherished grandchildren, John J. IV [Jack] Bormida, Stephanie Bogan White and husband Matthew, Denise, Tricia and John Bogan V, Nicole, Lindsey and Alyssa Bormida, Courtney and Christopher Bormida, and Leslie and Kelly Monaco; his aunt Christine McDonald of Kearny and several cousins.

Relatives and friends were invited to call on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant. Committal will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to St. Rose High School, 607 Seventh Ave.,

Isabelle S. Hillman
Sea Girt resident Isabelle S. Hillman died Friday, Feb 6 at the Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 88 years old.

She was a homemaker. She was born in Perth Amboy before moving to the Jersey Shore in 1941.

Mrs. Hillman was predeceased by her husband John A. in 1993 and daughter Kay Donna Gerin in 2008.

Surviving are her daughter Gail Carol Flood and her husband Robert of Point Pleasant, granddaughter Christine Darcy and her husband John, and two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Shealyn Kay.

Visitation was held on Monday, Feb. 9 at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the Holy Trinity Angelic Lutheran Church, Manasquan. Burial will be at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.

George ‘Ducky’ Peters
Sea Girt resident George “Ducky” Peters died Wednesday, Feb 4.

He was 77 years old.

Born on April 4, 1931 and raised in Bloomfield, George attended the Bloomfield school system. He lived in Bloomfield for 49 years before moving to Neptune, Parlin, Edison, Belmar in 1995 and finally Sea Girt [Wall Township] in 2006.

In 1951, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy as Seamen Second Class Machinist Mate. He worked as a service repairman and service manager for Edgerley and Gilson in Bloomfield for 37 years and service manager for Jos. A. Majka and Sons, Inc. in Clifton for 16 years. He belonged to NAOHSM and was service manager of the year in 1989. He was a member of VHW Post 2620 in Belmar/Wall. He joined the American Legion Post 346 in Neptune and was a member of the Bloomfield Optimist Club.

George participated in the Republican Club in Bloomfield as Third Ward assistant councilman and worked with Essex County as County Committeeman for many years. He joined the Republicans for Belmar in 1995.

George was predeceased by his parents, Dora and Louis Peters; siblings Louis “Buster” and Lillian Peters, Lawrence “Tody” and Marge Peters, Jim and Sally Peters, Harold “Bickey” and Betty Peters, Wilbur “Pookie” Peters, Henrietta “Honey” and Jake Zimmerman.

He is survived by sister Charlotte Shaw and his beloved wife of 52 years Beverly Bowman Peters. They have four children: Shari Wiedecker, Dr. George R. and Kim Peters, Scott A. and Debbie Peters, and Lori and Lenny Benzilio. He also had six granddaughters and three grandsons: Tyler, Morgan, Samantha, Alyssa, Taylor, Trixie, Gabi, Reilly and Dakoda.

Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 6 at the O’Boyle Funeral Home in Bloomfield and Saturday, Feb. 7 at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall. Funeral service and internment will be private. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to March of Dimes, 5 Cedar Brook Drive, Cranbury 08512, or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2620, c/o Dan Moynihan, 709 Seventh Ave., Belmar 07719.

Jane Saunders Myers
Manasquan resident Jane Saunders Myers died Saturday, Feb. 7 peacefully in her home.

She was 92 years old.

Born in New York City, N.Y., she lived in Cranford, Westfield, West Orange, Stamford, Conn., Sea Girt, and Hilton Head, S.C. before moving to Manasquan in 1992.

Mrs. Myers was a devoted wife and beloved mother. She enjoyed playing the piano, golfing, figure skating, gardening, and reading. She and her husband loved to travel and had traveled down the Intercostals Waterway together in their boat. She was a member of the Daughters of the King and was active in St. Uriel’s the Archangel Church in Sea Girt.

Mrs. Myers was predeceased by her husband, Richard Sr., in 1996.

She is survived by five sons, Richard Jr. and his wife Avis of California, Geoffrey of Florida, Fr. Thomas of Wildwood, Andrew and his wife Carole of Summit and Peter and his wife Debbie of Manasquan; her daughter, Cynthia Brosnan and her husband Paul of Clifton, Va.; her sister Suzanne Bacon of Lakewood; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Uriel’s Episcopal Church in Sea Girt. Internment will be in Atlantic View cemetery in Manasquan. Visitation will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m. Neary Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd, Chicago, Ill. 60607.

George Lapinsky
Brielle resident George Lapinsky died Thursday, Feb. 5 at the Claremont Center in Point Pleasant.

He was 80 years old.

Born in Colver, Pa., he lived in Bloomfield and East Orange before moving to Brielle 15 years ago.

Mr. Lapinsky was a general foreman for Worthington Pump in East Orange for 39 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. George devoted a lot of his spare time to Camp Hope in East Hanover.

Mr. Lapinsky is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth [nee Craft]; his special son, Richard of Freehold; his daughter, Lynn McAndrew and her husband George of Brielle; two brothers, Paul of Jacksonville, Fla., and Pete of Colver, Pa.; and two sisters, Ann Barno of Ohio and Mary Sotirake of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Cremation will be private at the family’s request. The Neary Quinn Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan is in charge of assignments.

Gregory C. Sereda
Wall resident Gregory C. Sereda died Thursday, Feb. 5 at his home.

He was 55 years old.

Mr. Sereda was a software engineer at AT&T in Middletown for many years before retiring last July. He is a US Patent Holder in the software industry. He received a BS and an MA in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla. He received a second MA in business administration from Monmouth University, Long Branch.

Born in Chicago, Ill., he moved to New Jersey 28 years ago, living in Sea Bright and Linden before moving to Wall in 1993.

He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Emily Sereda.

Mr. Sereda is survived by his wife of 22 years, Christine [Haligowski] Sereda; sons Justin and Alex, of Wall; daughter Nicole Sereda, of Wall; brother Dexter Sereda of Davie, Fla.; and sisters Carol Licko, of Miami, Fla., Sandra Nichols, of Brandon, Fla. and Nancy Sallman of Winter Haven, Fla. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 8 at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. Services were held on Monday, Feb. 9 at the funeral home. Internment will be held privately. Donations may be made in his name to a charity of choice or the Meridian Hospice, 1340a Campus Parkway, Newark 07753.

Thomas J. ‘Mick’ McBride Jr
Spring Lake resident Thomas J. “Mick” McBride Jr. died Saturday, Feb. 7.

He was 59 years old.

God took him suddenly but gently while doing what he loved outdoors in Southport, N.C.

Born in Long Branch, he had lived in Spring Lake Heights since 1966 and then moved to Spring Lake in 1989. He was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, attended the Staunton Military Academy, and went on to graduate from Georgetown University and then received his Masters from Georgian Court College, Lakewood. He was also a communicant of St. Catharine’s Parish, Spring Lake.

He was a teacher at Rumson-Fair Haven High school for 11 years, and while there he was the girls varsity basketball coach. He went on to teach in Ocean Township Intermediate School, where he had coached the boys varsity basketball team for the high school, and then went on to coach the boys basketball and cross country team. He had also been a basketball referee for over 20 years.

Thomas was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golf, tennis, and long distance running. He touched many lives through his teaching and coaching and set an example by his leadership and exemplary educational qualities, as was told to him many times by his former athletes and students and their parents. In addition to his very enriched life, his most valuable time was spent with his loving wife Elaine.

He was predeceased by his parents Thomas J. Sr.

Robert M. Post
Robert M. Post, 78, of Manasquan, formerly of Madison, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, Dec. 19.

He was born in Montclair, raised in Glen Ridge and lived in Madison for 42 years before retiring in Manasquan.

Robert was a realtor who owned and operated Vauchee Agency in Madison.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne [nee Prosser] Post, of Manasquan; two daughters, Beverly Post-Martinsen, of Sandefjord, Norway and Gail Michaels, of Pownal, Maine; a son, Randall Post, of Madison; and four grandchildren.

A memorial funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 27 at the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan, 16 Virginia Ave., Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Music Ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan or Salvation Army, 180 Newman Springs Road, Red Bank, 07701.

Arrangements are under the directions of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan.

Olga J. Norkus
Olga J. Norkus, 92, of Tinton Falls, formerly of Manasquan, died Tuesday, Dec. 21 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township.

Mrs. Norkus was born in Bayonne and resided in Freehold and Manasquan before moving to Tinton Falls in 2005.

Mrs. Norkus served as a telegrapher in the U. S. Navy during World War II.

She was a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America and a member of the Seabrook Women’s Veterans Group.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Freehold and later St. Denis R.C. Church, Manasquan. She was a member of Court St. Rose of Lima No. 737, Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Her husband, Francis A. Norkus, died in 1995. She was also predeceased by a son, James Edward Norkus.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerard K. and Lorraine Norkus and Donald P. and Joan Norkus; a daughter, Kathleen Armstrong; her six grandchildren, Stephen and Mark Norkus, Kristin Rath, Michelle Kreitz, and Tyler Armstrong and Kelsy Armstrong; and great -grandchildren, Riley Norkus, Jack Francis Norkus, Brendan Rath, Satya Rath, Henry Kreitz and Peyton Kreitz.

She will be missed.

Olga was a first-class baker and loved to cook for family. Her Christmas cookies were legendary and will be missed by many, as will her beautifully crafted afghans that she lovingly knit for friend and family alike.

She enjoyed her last few years with new friends and acquaintances at Seabrook Village.

Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Freehold, on Friday at 10 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations to Benevolent Care Fund at Seabrook, Tinton Falls, would be appreciated.
