Dolores Kordulak
Dolores Kordulak, 84 of Belmar, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune with her family by her side. Dolores was born and raised in Jersey City and had lived in Englewood before moving to Belmar in the early 1960’s.

She was a homemaker, a very spiritual person who prayed every day for her family and friends and had a great sense of humor. Dolores had a special personality that made everyone around feel comfortable. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and especially with her granddaughter Samantha.

Dolores was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Robert W. Kordulak, Sr. in 2011, a son Robert W. Kordulak Jr. in 1984 and a brother Alexander Neal in 2011. She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Denise and Connie Kordulak both of Belmar and Jacqueline and Charles Strimpler of Manasquan; a granddaughter Samantha Strimpler. Dolores is also survived by two sisters Karen Smith of Neptune and Connie Niedzialkowski of Brick.

Arrangements are being handled by Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105.

Grace Hennessey Brennan
Grace Hennessey Brennan, 77, of Manasquan died on Thursday, Feb. 28 while visiting Oriole Gardens, Margate, Fla. Grace was born in Greenwich Village, New York City and raised there and in Rockaway Beach, N.Y.

She was a graduate of Holy Cross Academy, NYC. She lived in Fordham Hill, N.Y. and River Edge before moving to Point Pleasant and then to Four Seasons in Manasquan 12 years ago. Grace was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished grandmother to all her children. Grace will always be remembered for her bright smile, her good heart and being a unique caring person who brought smiles and joy to those around her.

Grace was predeceased by her parents, James and Rose [nee Ward] Hennessey and a sister Irene McCarthy.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, James Brennan of Manasquan; a sister, Rosemary Carr of Margate, Florida; a son James Brennan and his wife Karen of Merrick, Long Island; two daughters and their husbands: Kerry Brennan and George Vitureira of Millington and Rosemary and Robert MacMaster of Whiting.

Grace is also survived by four grandchildren, “her children, ” Evan, Emma, Shannon and Colin; and many dear treasured friends here and in Ireland.

Arrangements are being handled by Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road Manasquan.

Phyllis M. Fritz
Phyllis M. Fritz, age 84, of Toms River, with family in Manasquan, died on Tuesday, at the Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood.

She is survived by her two children, Laurie D. Cosgrove of Manasquan and Patricia E. Carlson and her husband Jeffrey of Rocky Hill, Conn.

Born in Somerville, Mass. on April 21, 1928, Phyllis was the daughter of the late John and Petranella [Nellie] Van Gelder. Phyllis was a resident of Riverdale for 40 years before moving to the Lake Ridge section of Toms River 17 years ago. She was a tireless homemaker who had previously worked in Paterson with NJ Bell Telephone Company.

She was a loving wife mother and grandmother. She was funny, fun-loving, and a great storyteller. She loved to jitterbug to the big band sounds in her early days and had a lovely singing voice. She was a good friend and neighbor not just to those she knew, but to those she may have just met. She had interest, compassion for and a sixth sense about anyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Life was never dull when she was around.

Phyllis is also survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Harold L. Fritz; a sister, Doris Wilkinson of Waldwick; a grandchild, Kirsten Cosgrove of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; two nephews, William Wilkinson and Scott Evans; and two cousins, Jack Saathoff and Kathy Lech and her husband John.

Arrangements are being handled by D’Elia Funeral Home, Lakewood.

Paul Joseph Barrett
Paul Joseph Barrett, 76, of Shark River Hills, Neptune, died Monday, March 4, at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla. Born in Jersey City Paul grew up in Kearny, and North Arlington, before moving to the shore area in 1973.

Paul proudly served as a Lieutenant in the US Army.

He was a graduate of Queen of Peace High School and Seton Hall University. He was a teacher for 25 years before retiring from Woodbridge Township School District. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Avon. He enjoyed boating.

Paul was predeceased by his parents William and Eleanor Barrett, his daughter Eleanor Barrett and his brother William Barrett Jr. Surviving is his beloved wife of 22 years Susan Brown Barrett, two step-children; Karen Tanzy and her husband Tom of Woodbridge, George Noss Jr. of Bayville, a granddaughter Kristy Barrett of Highland Park and a sister Mae King of Kearny.

Visiting will be Sunday, March 10 from 1-5 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Avon. Committal will be private.

Robert A. Briant, Sr.
Robert A. Briant, Sr., 76, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

Born in North Plainfield, he lived in South Plainfield and Manasquan prior to moving to Point Pleasant 19 years ago. He was the C.E.O. of Utility and Transportation Contractors Association, Wall, for 33 years before retiring in 2006. Subsequently he continued to work as a consultant for UTCA.

Robert was a parishioner of Sacred Heart RC Church, Bay Head. He was chairman of the National Clean Water Construction Coalition. Robert also served as chairman of the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust for 10 years while concurrently serving as its treasurer. He was a member of the Construction Writers Association. Robert was an All-State basketball and baseball player for North Plainfield High. He played professional baseball with the Detroit Tigers Organization.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carole [Semenza] Briant; two sons Robert A. Briant Jr. and his wife Deborah of Manasquan, and Michael Thomas Briant and his wife Donna of Wall Twp.; one daughter Joanne B. Khammar and her husband Issam of Manasquan; one brother Charles Briant of Virigina; two sisters Marianne Zanowic of Florida and Charlene DeLaurentis of Virginia Beach; and six grandchildren Colin, Thomas, Katherine, Joseph, Hannah and Michael.

Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements,

Interment was in Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name can be made to The Ocean Medical Foundation, 425 Jack Martin Blvd., Brick [please note Robert’s name on the donation].

Betty L. Schoppe
Betty L. Schoppe, 77, of Jackson, died Thursday, Feb. 28 at Centra State Medical Center in Freehold.

Born in Summit, she lived in Point Pleasant, before moving to Jackson 10 years ago.

Mrs. Schoppe was a secretary for the Hebb Spring Company in Newark. She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Manasquan, where her husband, Bill has served as the church sexton for many years. She was past Matron of the Eastern Star, Chapter 143 in Wall and was a graduate of Howard Seminary in West Bridgewater, Mass.

Mrs. Schoppe is survived by her husband of over 55 years, William and is also survived by three sons, William R. of Jackson, Mark Allen of Brick and Jonathon Paul of Plainsboro. 1 daughter, Susan Rose Whalen of Beaver Falls, Pa., formerly of Manasquan. two nieces, Patricia Ann of Maine and Lori Lee of New York and a cousin, Anne Dietlein of Jackson. 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Manasquan. The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan is in charge of arrangements.

Jacqueline Frances Riedinger
Jacqueline Frances Riedinger, 64, of Brick, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 1, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jackie was born May 2, 1948, in Point Pleasant. She was employed at Butler's Pharmacy for 17 years.

She loved to travel and read, spending time with her sister and her friends. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren.

Jackie leaves behind her husband Deacon Gerald Riedinger of St. Dominic’s Parish, her sister Susan Thompson of Portland, Ore., and her brother Steven Cribbin of Mine Hill.

She also leaves behind four loving children, Todd Meyers of Toms River, Tracy and John Barcus of Brick, Gerald and Gina Riedinger of Brick, and Loren and Christine Riedinger of Lacey Township. She had nine wonderful grandchildren, Jake, Marissa, Haley, Daniel, Gavin, Kayla, Sarah, Sydney and Sophia.

Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jacqueline’s name can be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society c/o St. Dominic’s Church, 250 Old Squan Rd., Brick 08724.

Katherine Elizabeth Sytko Ogden
Katherine Elizabeth Sytko Ogden, 48, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Wall, passed away unexpectedly at home, Sunday, April 28.

Born and raised in Irvington, to the late Anthony and Roberta “Bobby” Sytko, she lived in Wall before settling in Point Pleasant.

Kathy was a graduate of Union Catholic High School and attended Union County Vocational Tech. She worked locally as an administrative assistant for many years until the birth of her beloved son, Chanse.

She enjoyed cooking, the beach, helping others, and cherished being a mother.

She was also predeceased by her mother and father in law, Ronald and Brenda Ogden.

Surviving are her husband of 24 years, Kevin Ogden; her son, Chanse Ogden; two brothers, Michael Sytko, his wife, Sally and their children, Christopher and Jonathan, and Glenn Sytko, his wife, Maggie, and their children, Angela and Anthony; and numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

At 4 p.m., Friday, May 10, a memorial service will be held at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

As an expression of sympathy, donations made in her memory to a scholarship fund being established for her son would be appreciated.

Thomas S. Nichols
Thomas S. Nichols, 55, of Point Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, May 1.

Mr. Nichols was a fashion merchant for many years at Kenneth Cole in New York City. He was born and raised in North Arlington before moving to Point Pleasant 42 years ago.

He was a graduate of Point Pleasant Boro High School in 1976, attended Brookdale Community College and then graduated from Rider University with a bachelor degree.

Mr. Nichols was predeceased by his parents Halsey and Jean Nichols and by his sister Laurie I. Nichols. Surviving is his nephew Andrew Thomas Nichols of Point Pleasant.

Visiting will be on Friday from 5-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. The service will be held on Saturday 11 a.m. in the funeral home. A cremation will follow privately.

Flowers or donations to the Jersey Shore Animal Center 185 Brick Blvd, Brick 08723 would be greatly appreciated.
