Arjhan Matthew Bagheri
Brielle resident Arjhan Matthew Bagheri departed too young. He died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 14.

He was 25 years old.

Born in Hackensack, he resided in Franklin Lakes for 10 years before moving to Brielle where he has lived since. Arjhan was a graduate of Manasquan High School and Syracuse University. He worked as a gemologist for the family business in Wall Township. Arjhan loved working out, fishing, wakeboarding, snowboarding, and being with his friends. But most of all, Arjhan loved to spend time with his family.

Arjhan is survived by his loving parents, Kaz and Geraldine Bagheri; his sister, Daria; his brother, Jonyar; his loving grandmother, Elinor; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and many friends. He will be so dearly missed.

Arjhan, you were a kind, soft-spoken, gentle soul. Watch over your family until we reunite once again.

Arrangements were under the care and direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arjhan’s name to IFRED, International Foundation for Research and Education on Depression, at www.ifred.org

Helen Ann Wood
Brielle resident Helen Ann Wood died Monday, March 16 in her home.

She was 87 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, she lived in the Camden County area and in Brick, before moving to Brielle one year ago.

Mrs. Wood was in management with NJ Bell for 21 years before retiring in 1982.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, in 1989.

She is survived by her son, James L. and his wife, Patricia, of Boca Raton, Fla; her daughter, Joan Slapp and her husband, Walter, of Brielle; her two brothers, Richard Choate and his wife, Madeline, of Sicklerville, and Robert Choate and his wife, Mary, of Mount Ephraim; her five grandchildren, Christine Dardet, James Wood, Raymond Slapp, Jamie Slapp-Dorment and Jennifer Wood; and her four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Delaney Dardet and Colin and Dylan Wood.

Cremation will be private at the request of the family. The Neary Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.

William Alexander O’Hern Sr.
Neptune resident William Alexander O’Hern Sr., with family in Spring Lake Heights and Wall, died Monday, March 16 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was 72 years old.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y. on April 4, 1936 and attended Syracuse University. He was a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force reserve, serving overseas in France with the boys from Syracuse. He was employed for 32 years as Northeast Regional Manager for AMF bowling. Bill cherished spending time with his family and was an avid New York Mets and Syracuse University sports fan. We are heartbroken by his loss and he will be most remembered for his devotion to his family and his quick Irish wit will live in our hearts forever.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Marion O’Hern.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Rose Andaloro O’Hern; daughters, Kelly O’Hern, of Spring Lake Heights, and Kathleen Gilbert and her husband, Peter, of Wall; sons, William O’Hern Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Wall, Patrick O’Hern of Point Pleasant; and his sister, Doris Altes and her husband Steven of Fayetteville, N.Y. Bill’s greatest joy was his grandchildren, Shannon, Sean, and Patrick Gilbert, and William, Daniel, Timothy, and Jonathan O’Hern.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Rose on Seventh Avenue in Belmar today at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s cemetery in Syracuse, N.Y. Reilly Funeral Homes, 801 D St. Belmar, is in charge of arrangements.

Paul T. Hendrickson
Neptune resident Paul T. Hendrickson, formerly of Wall and Brielle, died Tuesday, March 10 in the Medicenter of Neptune.

He was 83 years old.

Born in Neptune, he remained a lifelong resident of the shore area.

Following his graduation from Manasquan High School in 1943, Mr. Hendrickson joined the Merchant Marines, and during his tour of duty he was part of the deep-sea rescue team that went out to sea to render aid to the crew of torpedoed ships.

In 1944, Mr. Hendrickson transferred to the Army and served as a technician with the 10th Armored Division C Company 11th Tank Battalion during the Central Europe and Rhineland campaigns. Mr. Hendrickson was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Hendrickson was employed by the State of New Jersey as a road supervisor for 37 years before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Masonic Temple Ocean Lodge 89 of Spring Lake Heights, the Scottish Rite, the Spring Lake American Legion Post 432, and the Belmar and Wall Veterans of Foreign War Juneau Post 2620.

Mr. Hendrickson was predeceased by his parents, Paul T. Hendrickson Sr. and Mary E. Antruski Hendrickson; his beloved wife, Jean, in 2004; his brother, Frank, in 2005; and his sister, Mary in 1994.

He is survived by his caregivers, Thomas and Carla Graves; a number of nieces and nephews; and his brother and sister-in-law, Al and Mae Graves, of Ocala, Fla.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall. Interment with military honors was at Glendola Cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Hendrickson can be made to Embracing Hospice Care, 109 S. Main Street, Suite 23, Cranbury 08512.

Laura Poteet Shoemaker
Laura Poteet Shoemaker, a former 52-year resident of Sea Girt, died peacefully on Saturday, March 14 with her family by her side.

Born in East Orange on Dec. 21, 1914, Laura grew up in Asbury Park and graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1933. She worked for the Equitable Life Insurance Company in New York City until her marriage to her husband, John. They lived in New York City and enjoyed their summers in Brielle until 1952.

After the loss of John, Laura lived in Bayonne for five years and then moved to Sea Girt in 1957. She worked as a legal secretary for Fred Raffetto and Richard Maguire until her retirement in 1975.

Laura was a member of St. Andrew’s Methodist Church. She was committed to contributing to local service organizations. Laura was a past president for two terms of the Sea Girt Woman’s Club, a founding trustee of the Sea Girt Lighthouse Citizens Committee, treasurer of the Sea Girt Auxiliary to Jersey Shore Medical Center, and a member of The Holly Club. She received a special commendation from the State of New Jersey Association of Women’s Clubs for her leadership and 25-plus years of service.

She was predeceased by her husband, John; her brother, Edward Poteet; and her sister, Mary Dempsey.

Laura is survived by her son, Loren Shoemaker, his wife, Donna, and her cherished grandsons, Kyle Jason Shoemaker, all of Simsbury, Conn.; and Tyler John Shoemaker, of Daytona Beach, Fla.

She will be buried next to her husband at a private family ceremony. Vincent Funeral Home, Simsbury, Conn. is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family requests that contributions in memory of Laura be made to The Sea Girt Lighthouse Committee, PO Box 83, Sea Girt 08750.

Philip Joseph McElynn III
Spring Lake resident Philip Joseph McElynn III died Tuesday, March 10 in his home.

He was 48 years old.

Mr. McElynn was a managing director at Waterhouse Securities in New York City before retiring in 1993.

After leaving Wall Street, he kept busy by volunteering as a class parent, and a member of the booster club and the PTA at H.W. Mountz Elementary School in Spring Lake. He was also a coach, ran the Shack and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Spring Lake-Sea Girt Little League.

Phil spent two summers working at the Spring Lake Beach and also worked at Egan’s Spring Lake Liquors. Phil was a graduate of St. Lawrence University and a parishioner at St. Catharine Roman Catholic Church.

Phil was an avid Steelers fan, loved playing fantasy football and golf with his buddies, and was a member of the Belmar Fishing Club.

In keeping with Phil’s wishes, his body was donated to Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Mr. McElynn was predeceased by his brother, Christopher M., in 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret [nee Mullen]; his two daughters, Mary Cecilia and Allison Anne, both at home; his parents, Philip J. Jr. and Winifred R., of Morehead City, N.C.; his two brothers, Kenneth R., of Dunn, N.C. and Anthony L. and his wife, Christine A., of Maplewood; his brother-in-law William J. and his wife, Monica H., of New York City.; his sister, Cecilia R. Doricko, of San Fransisco; his sister-in-law, Mary A Mullin, of New York City and Spring Lake; five nieces; and three nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 740 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702, would be appreciated.

Phil, an avid Bruce fan, recently said, “I love New Jersey and am glad that New Jersey adopted me.”

Frances C. Landrigan
Wall resident Frances C. Landrigan died Thursday, March 12 in Care One Health Care, Wall.

Born in Nutley, she was a graduate of the Nutley High School Class of 1937.

Mrs. Landrigan was employed as a phone operator with New Jersey Bell [now Verizon] before relocating to Massachusettes, where she continued to work for the Bell System of Massachusetts until her retirement in 1984.

She was an active member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church of Wall Township, serving on the St. Hilda’s Alter Guild, and the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Women’s Committee.

Mrs. Landrigan was predeceased by her beloved parents, William Johnson and Alice McGrane Johnson; and her five brothers and six sisters.

She is survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Allenwood Road, Wall.

Donations in memory of Mrs. Landrigan can be made to St. Michael’s Church, care of 3402 Woodfield Avenue, Wall 07719. Arrangements were entrusted to Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall.
