Margaret Ellen “Peggy” Jamieson
Ship Bottom resident Margaret Ellen “Peggy” Jamieson, with family in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Oct. 9, at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Stafford, surrounded by her loving family.

She was 75 years old.

She was born Oct. 2, 1933, in the Bronx and raised there. She graduated from Cathedral High School.

In the 1950s, she became a stewardess for American Airlines, where she met the love of her life, her beloved Tom, after he had to switch airlines due to a canceled flight. They were married for 43 happy years and raised six children together.

Years later, after bringing six children into the world, Peggy went back to school and earned her teaching degree from Georgian Court University. Afterward, she managed Faith Nursery School in Lavallette, where she created and sustained a rich and fulfilling curriculum for her “little ones” for 15 years.

Peggy was an exuberant woman with luminous blue eyes and a gorgeous complexion. Her smile was radiant. She was loving and kind, yet iron-willed. She cherished conversation and loved to hold a person’s hands while listening intently to their words.

She was a devout Roman Catholic. She was a believer. She always showered her loved ones and friends with her special “Legions of Angels” prayer to ensure a safe journey for mind, body and spirit, regardless of circumstance.

She made wonderful apple pies and cheesecakes from scratch as well as the best breaded pork chops in the world [sometimes a little brown on one side]. She created legendary Thanksgiving Day feasts, rising at 5 a.m. to start the bird and all the trimmings and filling her home with the most delicious aromas for her awakening family to enjoy.

Peggy was filled with creative energy and loved to knit afghan blankets and create pine cone Christmas wreaths and baskets for her family and friends. She loved summers in Vermont and she adored the Jersey Shore. But mostly, she loved sharing time and the gift of life with her family. She was completely dedicated to her husband, children and grandchildren for over half a century. Her love was unconditional. Over the years, she consistently emphasized to each of her loved ones how “magnificent” she believed they were - always calling them her Sugar Bunnies or her Missy Muffins and continuously enveloping them in her lavish bear hugs.

She lived her life as a prayer. She imbued a genuine appreciation of the gift of life in all of her children and how essential it was to live life to its fullest. She was a truly splendid Mom - a child’s dream come true.

Her daughter Karen and Karen’s son, Peggy’s grandson Ray Darnell, were extraordinarily brave and selfless while administering loving and vigilant care to Peggy in her final years. The entire family will always be immensely grateful for their courage and sacrifice.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, Thomas William Jamieson; and her parents, William and Molly Slattery.

She is survived by her beloved six children and their families, Daniel Jamieson and his wife, Ellen, and their son Matthew, of Point Pleasant, Edward Jamieson and his wife, Kathy, and their daughters, Meagan and Ashley, and their son, Edward Jr. of Beachwood, Sharon Sharpe and her husband, Ian, and their twin sons, William and Thomas, of Colts Neck, Karen Jamieson and her son, Ray Darnell, of Ship Bottom, James Jamieson and his daughter, Erin, of Toms River, and Laura Lavell and her husband, Dennis, and their daughter Jessica, of Waretown.

She is also survived by her beloved twin sister, Ann and her husband, Ted Carbin, her adored brother-in-law; her adored nieces and nephews throughout the country and world. Peggy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pius Roman Catholic Church, 300 W. Lacey Road, Forked River.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633, or www.alz.org.

Layton’s Home For Funerals, Forked River, Lacey, is in charge of arrangements.
