Heather Kierce
Brick Township resident Heather Kierce, formerly of Point Pleasant died Friday, November 21, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania.

She was 18 years old.

Heather was a graduate of Point Pleasant Borough High School, and was a freshman at Albright College in Reading.

Heather was a unique and special person, who brightened up the lives of everyone she encountered. She loved rainbows and penguins, Monty Python and organic foods, and reading everything from philosophy to science fiction. Heather was an avid Ultimate Frisbee player both at home and college.

Heather was very involved in many aspects of her schools and community. Her many friends in the Boro High School fondly remember her from her participation in the Band and Show Choir as well as many performing arts productions.

She was also a member of the National Honor Society, the Art Club, and many other activities. She was a Girl Scout for 12 years, a deckhand on the Tall Ship A.J. Meerwald, and, along with her Youth Group from St. Mary’s By-the-Sea, went to Mississippi twice to assist Hurricane Katrina victims.

Although she had only been at Albright for three months, she was well known and had many friends. She played First French Horn in the Symphonic Band, and trumpet in the Jazz Band. She sang in the Albright Chorus and Chamber Choir.

Heather is survived by her father, Craig Michael Kierce, of Toms River, her mother and stepfather, Sheila and Alan Soyster, and her brother Craig Kierce, of Brick, her grandmothers, Pauline Mickle of Point Pleasant Beach and Gertrude Kierce of Wilmington, North Carolina.

She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Heather also leaves behind many wonderful friends.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant was in charge of arrangements. Interment took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heather’s favorite places: Allaire Village, Inc., PO Box 220, Farmingdale, NJ 07727 or the Popcorn Park Zoo, 1 Humane Way, Forked River, NJ 08731.

James J. Marren
Lavallette resident James J. Marren died Friday Nov. 21 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Bricktown.

He was 78 years old.

Born in New York City, he lived there and in West Point Island, Lavallette. Mr. Marren served in the U.S. Army during Korea.

A graduate of W. Michigan University, Mr. Marren was a self-employed real estate investor in New York City for many years. He was a communicant of St. Pio of Pietrecina R.C. Church in Lavallette and a member of the Lavallette Yacht Club.

He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine McWilliams Marren and his son, James F. and two grandchildren. Surviving is his son, Robert J. Marren of Burbank, Ohio.; his two daughters Christina G. Marren, of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Maureen E. Flynn, of New York City; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette was in charge of the arrangements. Committal took place at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

Donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund.

Diana Dubina Connelly
Brick resident Diana Dubina Connelly, whose son lives in Point Pleasant died Thursday, Nov. 20 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Brick.

She was 66 years old.

She was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to Brick in 2000. Mrs. Connelly was retired from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York City.

She was a parishioner of The Church of the Visitation in Brick. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, James J. Connelly Sr.; three sons, James J. Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline of Point Pleasant, Robert J. of San Diego, Calif., and Christopher J. and his wife, Corinne of Brick; and six grandchildren, Ryan, Taylor, Breanna, Devin, Christopher and Alexis.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road at Route 70, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at The Church of the Visitation, Brick. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Nancy H. Rogers
Point Pleasant resident Nancy H. Rogers died Sunday, Nov. 22 at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

She was 77 years old.

She was a homemaker and lived in Point Pleasant Beach prior to moving to Point Pleasant Borough in 1959. Nancy graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School and attended Penn Hall for two years in Pennsylvania.

She was a member of the Point Pleasant Historical Society, a member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, active in the P.T.A. in Point Pleasant Boro High School and enjoyed square dancing and traveling.

She is predeceased by her parents, Albert and Vera Griggs. She is survived by her husband, Donald Rogers; sons, Gregory Rogers and his wife, Kim, Point Pleasant, Timothy Rogers, California, Christopher Rogers and his wife, Nancy, Point Pleasant; four grandchildren: Megan, Lauren, Kiersten and Glenn.

The Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

Ruth F. Okerson
Spring Lake Heights resident Ruth F. Okerson died Thursday, June 4 in her home.

She was 89 years old.

Born in Manasquan, she lived in Spring Lake Heights all of her adult life.

Mrs. Okerson was a secretary for Sea Girt Military Academy for many years before retiring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manasquan, American Baptist Women’s Ministries and a charter member of the Junior Women’s Guild.

Mrs. Okerson was predeceased by her parents, Russell and Sarah Fowler; her sister, Dorothy F. Miller; and her step-mother, Edna M. Fowler.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lynden; two daughters, Lynda Connolly and her husband, Martin of Temple, N.H., and Carolyn Kelly and her husband, John W. of Sea Girt; five grandchildren, Meghan Campion and her husband, Christopher, John M. Kelly, Christopher Connolly and his wife, Jennifer, Michael Connolly and his wife, Cindi, and Patrick Connolly and his wife, Jill; and a great-grandson, Trace Campion.

Neary Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan was in charge of arrangements, with interment at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Baptist Church of Manasquan, 47 South Street, Manasquan, 08736 would be appreciated.

Darrel M. Yannone
Brick resident Darrel M. Yannone, who was the Minister of Music at the United Methodist Church in Manasquan, died Saturday, June 6 in his home.

He was 50 years old.

Born in Neptune, Darrel had resided in Toms River for many years before moving to Brick 17 years ago.

Darrel was employed as a music teacher with the Middletown Township Board of Education for 25 years. He also held the position of Minister of Music for the Manasquan United Methodist Church of which he was a member of the congregation. Prior to this, he was the Minister of Music with the First Presbyterian Church of Long Branch for almost 15 years.

His God given gift of music was taught to many children through private piano lessons. He was known for his lovely singing voice which he shared with many people.

He was predeceased by his father Armand Yannone.

Surviving are his children, Clifford P. and Heather L. Yannone of Brick with whom he lived; his mother, Faye Baralia Yannone of Neptune; and his four brothers, Gary S. of Ocean Grove, Brian P. of Toms River, Ronald M. of New Hampshire, and Vincent S. Yannone of Cranford, NJ. He is also survived by many loving students, colleagues, and friends.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township was in charge of arrangements. Relatives and friends are invited to call today from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Manasquan United Methodist Church, corner of Church and South Streets, Manasquan, 08736.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, [www.stjude.org] 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tenn.38105 or Feed the Children, [www.feedthechildren.org] P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK, 73101.

Alice Mary [nee Carey] Donoghue
Spring Lake Heights resident Alice Mary [nee Carey] Donoghue died peacefully Wednesday, June 3 at the Woodcliff Lake Manor with family by her side.

She was 85 years old.

She lived in the Fairway Mews community with her husband, Terence Donoghue, 96, who survives and currently resides at Bartley Manor in Jackson.

Born February 19, 1924 in the Bronx, Alice and her husband Terence raised their family of seven children in Park Ridge, before retiring to their beloved “Irish Rivera” - Spring Lake - in 1992. Prior to her retirement, Alice worked for 13 years at Saks Fifth Avenue, at Riverside Square, in Hackensack.

Alice was an active member of the Fairway Mews Ladies 9-Hole Golf Association, and was proud to record the low net score several times during her weekly golf outings. In addition to her passion for golf, Alice loved driving in her red Mini Cooper to the Belmar Marina, where she enjoyed her morning coffee and donut while watching the boats come and go. She enjoyed dining with family and friends at Klein’s Seafood Restaurant in Belmar and the Squan Tavern in Manasquan. She had many friends in “The Mews, ” and visited with them often. She traveled to Ireland several times and loved all things Irish, especially in Cork, from which her family had emigrated.

She is predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Jack; and a sister, Anne.

She was beloved by her seven children and 11 grandchildren, as well as her “grand dogs, ” Muddy, Lincoln, Lucky, Little Dog, and Maude. She is survived by her husband, as well as all of her children and grandchildren.

She attended both St. Catherine’s and St. Margaret’s churches, and was kind, compassionate, gentle, and generous. She also had an enormous wit and sense of humor. She’ll be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral arrangements were made through the Robert Spearing Funeral Home in Park Ridge.
