Mary D. Angelo, 77
Mary D. Angelo, 77, died Tuesday, August 18, 1998 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Westfield the last 40 years.
Mrs. Angelo was a saleswoman at the Woolworth's Store in Westfield for 25 years, retiring 20 years ago.
She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband, Peter Angelo; a son, Dennis Angelo of Westfield; a brother, John Petrizzo of Florida; a sister, Grace Formica of Rutherford, and three grandchildren.
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield.

Herbert Weitz, 82
Herbert Weitz, 82, of Cranbury died on Tuesday, August 25, 1998 at home.
Born in Ellenville, New York, he had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Cranbury four years ago.
Mr. Weitz also maintained residences in Boca Raton and Delray Beach in Florida for 15 years.
He had owned and operated Qualco Products, a chemical manufacturing company in Fanwood, for many years before retiring 10 years ago.
He was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League in Irvington and the Private Pilots Association.
Surviving are his wife, Norma Weitz; three sons, Howard Weitz, Neil Weitz and Robert Weitz; a sister, Beatrice Walters, and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held today, Thursday, August 27, at 1 p.m. in Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.
Arrangements are being handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

Louis J. Oliverie, 74
Decorated Veteran; Featured on 1943 Cover of Life Magazine
Louis J. Oliverie, 74, of Scotch Plains died on Friday, November 6, 1998 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Westfield, he had moved to Scotch Plains 40 years ago.
Mr. Oliverie had been a machinist with Lockheed Electronics, Inc. in Watchung for 28 years before retiring in 1989.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and the recipient of two Purple Hearts. On September 9, 1943, he was featured on the cover of Life magazine in a picture of the landing at Anzio Beach.
He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are a brother, Vincent F. Oliverie of Fanwood; a niece and two nephews.
A Mass was offered on Tuesday, November 10, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, following the funeral from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood. Interment took place at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad or to the American Heart Association.

Lois Jane Wouters
Captain of Red Cross; Past Officer of Westfield DAR Chapter
Lois Jane Wouters, 81, of Holmdel died on Saturday, November 7, 1998 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank.
Born in O’Fallon, Illinois on May 23, 1917, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Beedle Snodgrass, she had lived in Red Bank and Westfield before moving to Holmdel two years ago.
Mrs. Wouters had served as a Captain of the American Red Cross in Europe during World War II.
She was a member of the Tower Hill Presbyterian Church in Red Bank; a past officer of the Westfield Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority of the University of Illinois.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Edward Wouters.
Surviving are a son, Jan Wouters of Rumson, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 10, at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Inc. in Red Bank. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery in Middletown.

Frederik J. Bakker, 91
Retired Attorney; Army Veteran Was Senior Church Deacon
Frederik J. Bakker, 91, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, November 7, 1998 at the Robert Wood Johnson, Jr. Health Care Center in Plainfield.
Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, he had lived in Plainfield before moving to Scotch Plains in 1971.
Mr. Bakker had been a Counselor at Law in Plainfield for 58 years, retiring in 1992.
He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and German from Alfred University in Alfred, New York in 1929, and earned his Juris Doctor Degree from New York University School of Law in 1932. He was admitted to the Bar Association in 1934.
Mr. Bakker served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Plainfield Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association.
He was a Senior Deacon and an active member of the Plainfield Seventh Day Baptist Church in Plainfield, where he also served on many of the church’s denomination organizations. Mr. Bakker additionally was a member of The Gideons International for many years.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Pamela Bakker, in 1958.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Shirley Reinhart Bakker; a daughter, Carol J. Robertson of Houston, Texas, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, November 12, at 8 p.m. at the Seventh Day Baptist Church, 501 Central Avenue, Plainfield.
Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery tomorrow, Friday, November 13, at 1 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Katherine K. Sell, 85
Katherine K. Sell, 85, of Plainfield died on Friday, November 6, 1998 at Genesis Woodlands in Plainfield.
Born in Westfield on May 22, 1913, the daughter of the late John and Katherine Klimkowski, she had lived in Plainfield for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Sell had been an insurance agent at the John Dughi Agency in Plainfield for 35 years before retiring in 1994.
She had been active in The March of Dimes in Westfield during the 1950s.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter R. Sell, in 1983.
Surviving are a son, J. David Sell of North Plainfield; a grandchild and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held yesterday, Wednesday, November 11, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Plainfield Rescue Squad.

Helen Bevelheimer, 90
Led Garden Clubs; Was Member of Rake & Hoe in Westfield
Helen L. Mack Bevelheimer, 90, of Westfield died on Friday, November 6, 1998 at Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, she had resided in the New England area before relocating to Westfield in 1988.
She had been the Director of Art in the Lawrence Public Schools in Massachusetts, and was active in many garden clubs in that state.
Mrs. Bevelheimer received many citations from various governors while living in Massachusetts on her work with gardening and the environment.
She also served on several occasions as President of the Lawrence Garden Club, and was once the President of the State Garden Club of Massachusetts. Mrs. Bevelheimer had additionally been a judge for the state club.
She was also a member of the Rake and Hoe Club in Westfield.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Irving Mack.
Surviving is her husband, Harold Bevelheimer; two stepdaughters, Linda Gross of Wakefield, Rhode Island and Carole Hetzell of Jamesburg; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 14, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Arrangements are being handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
