BASIL J. PLASTERAS, 56, of West Long Branch died Aug. 1 at home. Born in Long Branch, he resided in West Long Branch for the past 30 years. He was the proprietor of Squire’s Pub, West Long Branch, for 28 years, retiring five years ago. He was an honorary fire chief of the West Long Branch Fire Company No. 1, and an honorary member of the West Long Branch PBA Local No. 141. He was a commissioner for the New Jersey Racing Commission, as well as chairman of the Monmouth Health Care Foundation at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was also a board member of the Rainbow Foundation, and a former board member of the Ronald McDonald House, Long Branch. He was predeceased by his parents, James G. and Marguerite Gatta Plasteras; a brother, George Plasteras; and a sister, Virginia Matouk. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ann Scharber Plasteras of West Long Branch; two sons, James G. Plasteras of West Long Branch, and George M. Plasteras of Delaware; two daughters, Vanessa C. Plasteras and Caroline A. Plasteras, both of West Long Branch; a brother, James G. Plasteras of Eatontown; two sisters, Alexandra Diglio of West Long Branch, and Margo Hooker of Middletown; his mother-in-law, Dolores Scharber of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth Health Care Foundation, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch 07740; or The Challenged Youth’s Sports, P.O. Box U, Cliffwood 07721.

HELEN KRETSCHMAR COLBY, 79, of Tinton Falls, died Aug. 2 at The Sycamore, Shrewsbury. Born in Philadelphia, she had resided in Tinton Falls since 1961. Mrs. Colby was a homemaker. Prior to that, she worked at Marlboro State Hospital, Marlboro, and the Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh. Her memberships included the Tinton Falls Women’s Club, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County, Eatontown. She was a competitive swimmer, placing third at the 1936 Olympic trials. She swam for the Penn Athletic Club, Philadelphia, and swam laps weekly until November. She was predeceased by her husband, H. Curtis Colby Jr., in 1993. She is survived by her son, H. Curtis Colby III of Boulder, Colo.; two daughters, Lynn C. Matson of Wall, and Nancy C. Titko of Tinton Falls; her sister, Dale Nicholas of Bensalem, Pa.; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Anselm’s Roman Catholic Church, Tinton Falls. Memorial donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sister of Monmouth County, 174 Main St., Eatontown 07724; or Christian Brothers Academy Swimming Team, c/o CBA, 850 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft 07738.

GLEN P. MORAVEC, 48, of Sea Bright died July 20 at home. Born in Newark, he lived in Eatontown prior to moving to Sea Bright four years ago. He was employed at Local No. 1456, New York City, since 1984, where he was also a member of its dockbuilder union. He is survived by his sister, Constance Moravec of Middletown; his son, Brian Moravec; and his daughter, Allison Moravec both of Eatontown.

RALPH P. SANTORO, 75, of Middletown died Aug. 3 at home. Born in Jersey City, he moved to Middletown 30 years ago. He was a retired inspector for Hansane and Sons, Rahway, where he was employed for 12 years. Prior to that, he was a toll collector for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority for several years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He played minor league baseball for the Jersey City Destroyers. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Santoro. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Faye Pilla Santoro of Middletown; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ralph J. and Wendy Santoro of Martinsville, Robert and Kelly Santoro of Middletown, and Michael J. Santoro of Red Bank; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Salvatore Falcone of Middletown; a brother, Frank Sanders of Toms River; a sister, Cecilia Hendrickson of Arizona; and six grandchildren. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to Meridian Hospice of Eatontown, 615 Hope Road, Eatontown 07724.

WILLIAM F. (KAISER) CONWAY JR., 89, of Freehold Township died Aug. 6 at his son’s home in Eatontown. He was born in Freehold, where he lived for many years before moving to Freehold Township 18 years ago. He was a laboratory technician for Hercules Co., Parlin, for 30 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Freehold Fire Company No. 1 for more than 50 years; a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold; and a charter member of the Freehold Fin, Fur and Feather Club. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (née Carter); two sons, William III of Eatontown and Sidney of Auburn, Pa.; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Interment took place at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.

JANIS MAE CONOVER, 56, of Freehold died Aug. 7 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Long Branch, she lived in Millstone and Asbury Park before moving to Freehold. She was a store manager at Lechter’s in Freehold Raceway Mall, Freehold Township, until she became disabled. She was a graduate of Allentown High School and a lifelong member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Manalapan, where she was a stewardess and missionary. She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer L. Adams of Freehold and Stephanie A. Jackson of Long Branch; a brother, Carl A. Conover of Lakewood; four sisters, Gladys Thompkins, Ella Frazer and Evelyn Joseph, all of Lakewood, and Sandra A. Conover of Freehold; and four grandchildren. Interment took place at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.

ANNABELLE DAILEY LEHMANN DWIGHT, 77, of the Lincroft section of Middletown died Aug. 12 at home. She lived in the Port Monmouth section prior to moving to Lincroft two years ago. She was a security guard at Middletown High School North from 1973-83. Prior to that, she was employed at Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge, Middletown; Lily Tulip, Holmdel; and Bell Telephone, Newark. She participated in United Service Organization (USO) tours during World War II, and was a founder of the Middletown Drum and Bugle Corps. She was predeceased by her son, William Dailey Jr., in 1980. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Dailey of Port Monmouth, Cynthia Dolansky of Lincroft, and Maureen "Mickey" and Vince Acerra of Red Bank; and four grandchildren. Burial was at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, Union.

CARL COHEN, 92, of West Long Branch died Aug. 19 in Maryland. Born in Rock Island, Ill., he lived in Chicago prior to moving to West Long Branch several years ago. He was a newspaperman for several papers including The Star-Ledger, Newark; the Atlanticville newspaper, Long Branch; and the Long Branch Daily Record Prior to that, he worked for various newspapers in Chicago and Newark He was active in his community, serving as president of local chapters of B’nai Brith, the Rotary and Exchange clubs, and the Old Guard, a senior group. He started a bowling league 64 years ago that was later named after him. He was also an avid golfer, as well as a bowler. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Cohen, in 1990. He is survived by his son, Robert Cohen of McLean, Va.; his daughter, Wilma Schmidt of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Burial was at the Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge.
