Theresa Clifford
PLAINFIELD, N.J. - Theresa Clifford, 87, of Plainfield, died Monday (Oct. 11, 1999).
She was born in Yonkers, N.Y.
She was a former communicant of the the Church of the Nativity and a member of their Rosary Society and was presently a communicant of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield.
Surviving are two sons: Charles J. Clifford of Plainfield and Richard D. Clifford of Westfield; four grandchildren; and a sister, Natalie Pietrowicz of Yonkers. A private Mass of Christian
Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Plainfield. A private internment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Higgins Funeral Home, 209 W. Eighth St., Plainfield. Memorials may be made to the Muhlenberg Foundation, Inc., Park Avenue & Randolph Road, Plainfield, N.J. 07061.

Margaret A. "Peg" Ewing
Margaret A. "Peg" Ewing, 75, of 8 Crane St., formerly of 325 Baker St., died at 6:20 a.m. Monday (Oct. 11, 1999) in WCA Hospital. A Jamestown resident since 1926, she was born March 22, 1924, Marionville, Pa., the daughter LeRoy and Cecillia Meehan Terry.
She was employed by the former Crescent Tool Co. and was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
She was a member of the retired Girl Scouts and the past president of the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary.
She was a past commander of the former Navy Mothers, and a member of the College of Regents of the Moose Lodge. She also was a former member of the Lionesse Auxiliary.
Surviving are five sons: DeForest D. Ewing Jr. of Novi, Mich., Dennis P., David L. and Douglas J. Ewing, all of Jamestown, and Daniel E. Ewing of Thorton, Colo.; a daughter, Debra A. Sonderhouse of Pewaukee, Wisc.; 15 grandchildren: John D. Ewing and Julie M. Gallosso both of Clinton Township, Mich., Dennis P. Ewing Jr., Sarah E. and Jenny R. Ewing, all of Ashville, Scott A. Ewing of Williamsburg, Va., Daniel E. Ewing Jr. of Golden, Colo., Pedee J. Ewing of Thorton, David L. Ewing Jr. of Guilderland, N.Y., Mark E., Gabrielle D., Katherine M. and Matthew J. Ewing, all of Jamestown, Monica A. Cuoco of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Michael D. Ewing of Denver; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia A. Russell of Jamestown; and two brothers: Carl E. Kelwaski of Jamestown and Clarence L. Kelwaski of Panama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, DeForest D. Ewing, whom she married June 26, 1943, and who died July 25, 1971; her father; her step-father, Stephen Kelwaski, Aug. 30, 1980; her mother, Sept. 12, 1990; a sister, Marcia D. Kelwaski, in1946; and a brother, Stephen Kelwaski Jr., on March 18, 1996. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. James A. Hubbard, interim rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friend will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, where a Moose Lodge ritual will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Southern Tier Kidney Association P.O. Box 834, Jamestown, N.Y., 14702.

Inez A. Porter
WARREN - Inez A. Porter, 91, a resident of the Watson Home, formerly of North Warren, died at 10:50 p.m. Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) in Kinzua Valley Health Care.
She was born Nov. 1, 1907, in Richmond Township, Crawford County, Pa., the daughter of Archie and Lenora Davison Franklin. A Warren area resident most of her life, she was a telephone operator at the Warren State Hospital for 18 years, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of the North Warren Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two daughters: Sandra Ransom of North Warren, Betty Dickerson of Warren; a son, Everett R. Burke of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorraine E. Ferrie of Erie.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Opan Schuler in 1992; and one brother, Willard Franklin in 1991. The funeral was held Oct. 11 in the Mark S. Patterson Funeral Home. The Rev. Burfoot S. Ward III, pastor of the North Warren Presbyterian Church, officiated.
Burial was in Westview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the North Warren Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.

Betty E. Roberts
CLARENDON, Pa. - Betty E. Roberts, 78, of R.D. 1, Mohawk Avenue, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 9, 1999) in Warren General Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1921, in Warren, the daughter of James and Anna Marie Anderson Mortensen.
She was employed by Kresge's, Sylvania and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. A member of the Free Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School and Bible School and also at the conference Bible Study.
She was formerly involved in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Surviving are her husband, Albert "Bud" Roberts, whom she married April 25, 1942, in Warren; a son, David Roberts of Glendale, Calif.; a daughter, Nanette Roberts; and a sister, Ethel Anderson, both of Warren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James; and a sister, Martha Copenhaver. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. today in the Free Methodist Church, Warren. The Rev. Charles Baker will officiate.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received today in the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

A. Myrtle Powers
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A. Myrtle Powers, 87, of 300 Promenade Blvd., Las Vegas, formerly of 301 Charles St., Jamestown, died at 7:46 p.m. Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) in the Summerline Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas. A Las Vegas resident the past five years, she was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Kane, Pa., the daughter of Melvin I. and Alice M. Ruth VanGiesen. A graduate of Kane High School and a 1933 graduate of the Jamestown General Hospital School of Nursing, she was a registered nurse at Jamestown General Hospital for a short time.
She was a member of the Zion Covenant Church where she sang in the choir, the Missionary Circle and the Ladies Aide.
She was also a member of the Jamestown General Hospital Alumni Association.
Surviving are a son, Dr. C. Donald Powers of Las Vegas; and two brothers: the Rev. Raymond A. Vangiesen of Marianville, Mo., and Marlan V. Vangiesen of Hopkinsville, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold O. Powers who died Dec. 2, 1972; and a brother, William I. Vangiesen in 1943. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Eldon H. Johnson, pastor emirtus, Zion Covenant Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Zion Covenant Church Memorial Trust Fund.

Richard E. Nash
Richard E. Nash, 92, of 103 Linwood Ave., died at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 9, 1999) in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born June 7, 1907, in Chautauqua N.Y., the son of Esek Brayton and Edith Harwood Nash. A 1925 graduate of Chautauqua High School and earned his B.S. in 1932 from Springfield College, Springfield, Mass.
He was a special education teacher for the Falconer School System retiring in 1976. He attended the first Covenant Church and was a member of the Kiantone Senior Citizens Club, the Jamestown Rifle Club and the Carroll Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Norberg Nash whom he married July 8, 1967; two sons: David L.R. Carlson of Tyler, Texas and Darrel C. Carlson of North East, Pa.; six grandchildren: Erich, Wallace Carlson, Barbara Morgan, Cathy Burleson all of Texas, Deanna Carlson Bradt of Fort Wayne Ind. and Dean C. Carlson of Waterford, Pa. and five great-grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by three brothers: David, Edgar and Hugh Nash. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. David B. Larson, visitation pastor, First Covenant Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Chautauqua Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Covenant Church Reach Out Ministry or a charity of ones choice.

James H. Johnson
YOUNGSVILLE - James H. Johnson, 69, of PO Box 194 (Thatchers Lane), Youngsville, died, at 9:30 p.m., Saturday (Oct. 9, 1999) in the Rouse Warren County Home.
He was born, Sept. 14, 1930, in Warren, the son of the late Harry and Nellie Sutton Johnson. A 1948 graduate of Tidioute High School, he was employed by Penndot as a mechanic retiring in 1991.
He was employed for several years by Cyclops in Titusville. He enjoyed gardening and anything mechanical.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Smith Johnson whom he married May 28, 1955; three sons: Sidney Johnson of Spartansburg, Alan Johnson of Bear Lake and Harold Johnson of Youngsville; one brother, Charlie Johnson of Sagertown; one sister, Carol Maust of Langhorne, PA; five grandsons: Dylan, Dustin, Merrit, Adam and Jacob Johnson; and one granddaughter, Stefanie Johnson. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the McKinney Funeral Home in Youngsville. The Rev. Rick Hamrick, pastor, of the Youngsville Free Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Wrightsville Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Warren County.

Stephen Robert Edgar
SALAMANCA - Stephen Robert Edgar, 51, of Salamanca, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) in his home.
He was born Jan. 25, 1948, in Salamanca, the son of Robert and the late Bonita Mae Goodrich Edgar. He served in the U.S. Navy, including a tour in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and a tour in Antarctica.
He was a senior design engineer at Chemical Design Incorporated of Lockport for 22 years.
Besides his father, surviving are his wife, Debi Toussaint Edgar; four daughters: Michelle Edgar of Niagara Falls, Nicole Edgar and Kelli Zywiczynski both of Lockport and Kandace Thompson of Florida; four grandchildren; one sister, Linda Pelham of Napoli; and a brother, Terry Edgar of Comelius, N.C. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, N.Y. Interment will be in the Huskey Cemetery.

Vivian I. Anderson
Vivian I. Anderson, 89, formerly of 198 Hazeltine Ave., died at 11:50 p.m. Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) in Heritage Green Health Care Center. A lifelong resident, she was born March 17, 1910, in Jamestown, the daughter of I. W. and Effie Woll Luce.
She was employed in the cafeteria of Jamestown High School for more than 20 years retiring in 1975.
She was a member of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church and was a former member of the American Association of Retired Persons and its bowling league.
Surviving are her son, Keith Vandewark of Jamestown; and a daughter, Jean Stowell of Jamestown; five grandchildren: Karen Olson of Rochester, the Rev. Stephen Olson of LaFargeville, N.Y., Rebecca Jollow of Ontario, N.Y., Lynette Hendrickson of Hudson Fla. and Laurie Bessey of Chicago; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, William R. Sandberg, her third husband, Herbert E. "Hub"Anderson whom she married Jan. 14, 1955, and who died Jan. 21, 1999; a son, Glenn "Bud" Vandewark Jr.; a sister, Iva Janowsky; and a brother Orval Luce. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerome D. Ward, pastor of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church or a charity of one's choice.

Sheridan S. Cobb Sr.
YOUNGSVILLE - Sheridan S. "Jake" Cobb Sr., 78, formerly of 367½ Foote Ave., Jamestown, and The Towers of Warren, died at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 9, 1999) in the Rouse House. He had been employed for 18 years by AMSCO Excel and the former Art Metal and Dahlstrom Manufacturing. Arrangements to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home, Inc.
