Helen H. Roth
WESLEYVILLE, Pa. — Helen H. Roth, 89, formerly of Wesleyville, died Saturday (Feb. 5, 2000) in the Ball Pavilion.
She was born in Smethport, Pa., on May 4, 1910, the only daughter of Sandford and Emma Herzog Fry. She lived in the Erie area since 1939.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and was active with the Altar Guild. She was a graduate of Allegheny College and was a member of the Allegheny College Alumni. She was active with the Keenagers, Merry Mixers and the Salvation Army Roadrunners. She also was an avid reader.
Surviving are two daughters: Barbara Braley of Bemus Point and Donna Sedelmyer of Wesleyville; a son: Howard Roth of Santa Anna, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hubert Roth.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Cynthia Petkovich officiating. Interment will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Duscaks Funeral Home Inc. East, 2607 Buffalo Road, Erie.
Memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 2025 Eastern Ave., Erie, Pa., 16510.

Linnea S. Klang
Linnea S. Klang, 88, of the Hultquist Care Center, formerly of Jamestown, and Largo, Fla., died at 6:18 p.m. Friday (Feb. 4, 2000) in WCA Hospital.
She was the widow of Gust A. Klang, whom she married Jan. 22, 1933, in Frewsburg, and who died June 10, 1989.
An area resident most of her life, she was born July 23, 1911, in Jamestown, the daughter of John and Jennie Olson Rydell.
She attended schools in Stillwater and Jamestown and had nursing training at the former Buffalo City Hospital. She had been employed as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Olean, WCA Hospital, the former Jamestown General Hospital and later as an industrial nurse at Watson Manufacturing and Jamestown Steel Partitions.
She was confirmed in the Old First Mission Church and presently was a member of the Judson Fellowship Church. She also was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including: Jennifer Higbee of Falconer, James Paxton of Jamestown and Ralph Curtis Rydell of Kennedy.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lorine Paxton; and three brothers: Ralph, Arthur and Willard Rydell.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Margaret Monroe-Cassel of the Judson Fellowship Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Bay of Pines National Cemetery, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Friends will be received by the family from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Judson Fellowship Church, 316 E. Fourth St., Jamestown, N.Y., 14701.

Harold F. Brown
Harold F. Brown, 88, of 52 LaSalle Ave., died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 5, 2000) in WCA Hospital.
An area resident since 1957, he was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Titusville, Pa., a son of Arthur and Vera Wilson Brown.
A 1930 Titusville High School graduate, he was employed by Quality Markets for 43 years managing stores in Oil City, Franklin and Titusville. He retired in 1976 as director and vice president of merchandising for the Jamestown Corporate Headquarters. He was a member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church.
An avid fisherman in earlier years, he loved spending time with his family as well as traveling.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes Geary Brown, with whom he would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 11; a son, Richard R. Brown of Ypsilanti, Mich., two granddaughters: Sandra Elka of Ypsilanti and Leslie Brown of Tecumseh, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilson Brown; and a sister, Ruth Spencer Zdarko.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerome D. Ward, pastor of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Titusville, Pa.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday in the Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, 385 S. Main St., Jamestown, N.Y., 14701; the Titusville High School Alumni Association, 302 E. Walnut St., Titusville, Pa., 16354-1998; or a charity of choice.

Roland Morton
ASHVILLE — Roland Morton, 83, of 3717 Victoria Road, Ashville, died Saturday (Feb. 5, 2000) in WCA Hospital.
He was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Ashville, the son of Allan and Ethel Ayling Morton.
He was employed as a machinist at Marlin Rockwell Corp. in Jamestown, and belonged to the United Autoworkers Union Local 338. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific during World War II.
Surviving are two sons: Jon A. Morton and William W. Morton, both of Ashville; four grandchildren: Jon Morton, Daniel Morton, Heather Morton and Christopher Morton, all of Ashville; and a sister, Betty Piazza of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Herman Morton, whom he married June 27, 1942, in Buffalo, and who died May 2, 1992; a grandson, Peter Morton on Dec. 30, 1986; and a brother, Philip Morton on Jan. 9, 1992.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Freay Funeral Home, 139 S. Erie St., Mayville. The Rev. William Pettibon of Magnolia United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Friday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Magnolia United Methodist Church or the Ashville Fire Department Rescue Squad.

Gustaf Chili
LAKE MARY, Fla. — Gustaf Chili, 84, of Pond View Court, Lake Mary, Fla., died Friday (Feb. 4, 2000) in his home.
He was born in Jamestown on July 1, 1915. His first job was with The Jamestown Post-Journal and he later became a manager at the W.T. Grants Co. He went on to own and operate Chili’s Auto and Home Supply and the Surplus and Salvage on LaFayette Street.
He served in World War II as a B-17 Bomber pilot, participating in the Polesti Oil Field raids. He received the Presidential Unit Citation and the Distinguished Flying Cross during his military career.
In 1983, he retired and moved to Florida.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda; two sons: Dr. David Chili of Jamestown and Donald Chili of Daphne, Ala.; a daughter: Diane Zimmer of Manlius, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and three sisters: Margaret Thomas of Cleveland, Ann Holmes of Jamestown and Alfreda Sacco of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James.
Memorial may be sent to Vitas Hospice Services, Maitland, Fla., 32751.

Robert Joseph Tabone
Robert Joseph Tabone, 90, of Paradise, Calif., formerly of Jamestown, died Jan. 23, 2000, in California.
He was born in Jamestown on Sept. 26, 1909, the son of Joseph and Gertrude Tabone.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He also was a house painter for 50 years.
Surviving are two sons: Charles Tabone of Oakland, Calif., and James Tabone of Loudonville; three sisters: Angeline Ricotta, Jennie Hall and Mary Miley, all of Jamestown.
A private family inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
The Hubert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edith A. Carlson
Edith A. Carlson, 94, formerly of Falconer, died at 1:05 a.m. Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in the Lutheran Social Services Building A. She was born Oct. 13, 1904, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Ernest and Ida Swenson Anderson. She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School and Adelphi College in Brooklyn. In the early '30s she taught and was a librarian in the New York City Public Schools and from 1962 to 1972 she was a librarian and taught kindergarten at the Southside and Harvey C. Fenner Elementary schools in the Falconer school system. Along with her husband, the late Rev. Clarence H. Carlson, whom she married July 18, 1936, in Long Island, and who died Jan. 28, 1964, she pastored the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston, Iowa, from 1936 to 1939, the Wasa Lutheran Church, Staten Island, from 1939 to 1954, and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Falconer, from 1954 to 1964. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she served on many of its religious and cultural committees. She was a member of the Falconer Senior Citizens. Surviving are a son: Dr. Harold Carlson of East Setauket, N.Y.; two daughters: Edith Doud of St. Louis and Ellen Peterson of Athens, Ohio; five grandchildren: Gregory and Jonathan Carlson of Setauket, Melissa and Andrew Doud of St. Louis, and Trevor Peterson of Boulder, Colo.; a brother: Ernest Anderson of Sun City, Ariz.; and a sister: Wilma Day of Thornwood, N.Y. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Emil Anderson in 1910. The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mary Alice Peterhaensel, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
