Allen Harold Sams
MAYVILLE - Nicholas Allen Harold Sams, 7, of 103 S. Erie St., died Saturday (Sept. 25, 1999) in Westfield Memorial Hospital. He was born May 15, 1992, in Stockton, Calif. He attended BOCES in Ashville. Surviving are his mother: Stephanie Empey at home; two sisters: Sasha Sams and Tanisha Empey, both at home; grandparents: James and Diane Glor of Mayville; a great-grandmother: Rita Robertson of Mayville; and a grandfather: Harold Sams of Stockton, Calif. He was preceded in death by a great-grandfather: Robert Robertson. The funeral will be at 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville. The Rev. A.J. Donahue of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville, will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mayville Fire Department Rescue Squad or the Westfield Memorial Hospital.

Beverly Faulk Lawton
Beverly Faulk Lawton, 84, of 124 Frederick Blvd., W.E., Jamestown, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in her home. She was born Jan. 4, 1915, in Elbon, Pa., the daughter of Emil and Augusta Faulk. She was employed as a teacher's aide at Southwestern Middle School for 23 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Celoron United Methodist Church and was superintendent of the Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed her Sunday school children and loved nature, especially bird watching. Surviving is a daughter, Susan R. Lawton of West Ellicott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Lawton, whom she married Nov. 19, 1941, and who died Jan. 19, 1987; three brothers; and five sisters. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the Celoron United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lauren K. Turner, pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to Celoron United Methodist Sunday School, 28 E. Livingston Ave., Celoron, or the Audubon Society, 1600 Riverside Road, Frewsburg. Arrangements are by Hubert Funeral Home.

Dorothy M. Spencer
Dorothy M. Spencer, 87, of the Heritage Park Health Care Center, formerly of the Hotel Jamestown Apartments, died at 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 25, 1999) in WCA Hospital. An area resident for more than 40 years, she was born in Ivory, Pa., on April 27, 1912, a daughter of Elton and Lucille Wynn. A member of the Busti Church of God, she was a homemaker who took great delight in her grandchildren. She was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed cooking and baking, and was particularly known for her pies. Surviving are her husband, James Spencer; four sons: Harold Nichols of Jamestown, Kenneth Nichols of Reseda, Calif., Charles Spencer of Frewsburg and Don Spencer of Jamestown; four daughters: Eleanor "Ellie" Frodelius of Jamestown, Diane Rice of North East, Pa., Dorothy Daley of Corry and Edna Roman of Jamestown; 36 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: George Wynn of Clarendon, Pa., and Wilson "Bud" Wynn of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Nichols Sr., who died in 1966; two sons: Ralph Nichols Jr. and Robert Olson; a daughter: Beatrice Olson; three grandsons: Timothy Rice, Steven Dilker and Jeffrey Buck; a great-grandson, Peter Norge; and two brothers: Clifford and Lawrence Wynn. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy E. Ferguson, pastor of the Busti Church of God, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Western Regional Office, P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, N.Y., 13057.

David H. Emke
SOUTH DAYTON - David H. Emke, 61, of South Dayton-Silver Creek Road, died at 1:26 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 23, 1999) in his home. He was born Aug. 21, 1938, in Conewango Valley, the son of the late Charles and Esther Irene Emke Killock. He owned and operated a dairy farm for 27 years and was a former dairy herdsman for Braymillers in Lawton, N.Y., for 15 years. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the New York state Horsemans Association. Surviving are his wife: Diane M. Webber Emke, whom he married July 4, 1958; four sons: Dennis K. Emke of Cherry Creek, Dwayne R. Emke of South Dayton, Daryl C. Emke of Gowanda, and David R. Emke of Springville; two daughters: Debra I. Emke-Walker of Cherry Creek and Doris R. Treusch of South Dayton; 18 grandchildren and 3 stepgrandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Emke, who died Jan. 4, 1983. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Riles Funeral Home, 39 Main St., Forestville. The Rev. Dennis B. Johnson, pastor of the Hamlet United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Villenova Cemetery, South Dayton. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 188 S. Erie St., Mayville, N.Y., 14757.

James E. Carlson
James E. Carlson, 77, of 135 Thayer St., died at 1:10 p.m. Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in the WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born July 5, 1922, in Jamestown, the son of the late Edwin and Elizabeth Johnson Carlson. He attended Jamestown schools and had served as a sergeant in the medical corps of the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He had been employed for 37 years at Hope's Windows, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church where he was presently serving as a trustee and usher and had served as an elder. He also was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Surviving is his wife: Pauline E. Ross Carlson, whom he married Oct. 10, 1948, in DuBois, Pa.; five daughters: Karen Carlson of Lima, Peru, Sharon Muchler of Penn Yan, N.Y., Barbara Smith of North East, Pa., Janet Tennies of Pittsburgh, Julie Panaggio of Jacksonville, N.C.; a son: John R. Carlson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 10 grandchildren: Kami Domm of Elmira, Adam and Aaron Wolfe of Naples, Graysya Bush of Celoron, Ashley Bush of North East, Christopher and Amanda Tennies of Pittsburgh, Andrea Carlson of Cherry Creek, Nicole and Natalie Panaggio of Jacksonville; and a sister: Dorothy Barton Pearson of Gerry. He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert J. Carlson in 1997, and a sister, Alyce Sears in 1978. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home, the Rev. H. Wayne Eppehimer, pastor of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.

Jennie LaScola
FREDONIA - Jennie LaScola, 96, of the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk, and formerly of 102 Liberty St., died Saturday (Sept. 25, 1999) in the county home. She was born in Fredonia on July 9, 1903, to Rosolino and Rose Ognibene. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to caring for her son, the late John LaScola Jr., who died in 1995. Surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and son; four sisters: Minnie Leone, Josephine, Lucy and Marie Ognibene; and three brothers: Peter, Samuel and Dr. Frank Ognibene. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Anthony's Church, Fredonia. The Rev. C.J. Westfield, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Clayton Ralph Miller
CATTARAUGUS - Clayton Ralph Miller, 83, of South Street, Cattaraugus, died Thursday (Sept. 23. 1999). He was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Cattaraugus, the son of Earl and Nellie Ruper Miller. A veteran of World War II serving the U.S. Army, he was a truck driver for Wooster Trucking in North East, Pa., and Loblaws in Buffalo. He was a past member of the Roberts Memorial Free Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Scott D.L. Miller of Scio, N.Y.; two daughters: Cheryl A. Mallen of Otto and Melissa Reid of Cattaraugus; six grandchildren: Rebecca Ellis, Hannah Reid and McKenzie Reid, all of Cattaraugus, Paul and Sarah Hebner of Rochester and Jordan Miller of Scio; one brother, Sidney Miller of Cuba; and two sisters: Joyce Harvey of Cuba and Eunice Berry of Friendship. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Jean Grey Miller whom he married April 15, 1944, and who died Oct. 18, 1985; and two brothers, Albert Ray Miller and Howard Miller. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Roberts Memorial Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Sebastian Propero, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Park Cemetery, Cattaraugus. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Roberts Memorial Free Methodist Church, 111 South St., Cattaraugus. Memorials may be made to the Roberts Free Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Hills Chapel, 55 S. Main St., Cattaraugus.

Michelle Kay Reynolds
LAKEWOOD - Michelle Kay Reynolds, 37, of 39 Marvin Ave., died Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute. She was born Apr. 8, 1962, in Jamestown, the daughter of William and Kathleen Smith Roehm. A 1980 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1984 graduate of Oberlin College, she received her master's degree in 1988 from American University in Washington, D.C. She was a writer and also a publicist for Independence Jazz Reunion in Dunkirk and the Newcomers Club. Surviving besides her parents are her husband, Kevin C. Morse, whom she married July 6, 1985; two sons: Kyle and Garrett Morse, both at home; two sisters: Kimberly Kane and Lori Reynolds, both of Bergen, N.Y.; a brother, William J. Roehm II of Jamestown; and a grandmother, Christine Beals of Lakewood. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Roger J. Smith. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor, will be celebrant. No visitation will be observed. Arrangements are by Lind Funeral Home.

Richard C. Morrison
SUGAR GROVE - Richard C. Morrison, 52, of Rd. 1, Box 957, Sugar Grove, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 23, 1999) in WCA Hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1947, in Erie, the son of the late Ernest C. Morrison and Jean Hardy Morrison. He was self employed in excavation for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and Rod & Gun Club of Sugar Grove. Besides his mother he is survived by his wife, Rhonda Lindstrom Morrison whom he married June 3, 1987; two sons: Braxton and Tyler Morrison at home; two daughters: Jade Morrison at home and Michelle Dyer of Dubois; two grandchildren: Alexis and Amanda Dyer of Dubois; two brothers: Dallas Morrison of Irvine and Bruce Morrison of Cole Hill; two sisters: Cindy Christian of Torpedo and Sherry Seidler of Butler. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Monday in the McKinney Funeral Home. The Rev. Nancy Schwankee, pastor of the Berea Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lottsville Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Funeral Home. Arrangements are by McKinney Funeral Home, Sugar Grove.
