Phyllis W. Crooker
Born in Utica, NY on Apr. 11, 1926

Mrs. Phyllis W. Crooker, 82, of Clark Avenue, Fort Plain passed away peacefully, Monday, February 9, 2009 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer following a battle with ALS.

Born on April 11, 1926 in Utica, she was the daughter of the late Melville and Leona Peter Walker. A lifelong area resident, Phyllis was a 1943 graduate of Canajoharie High School. She went on to attend Oberlin College and graduated in 1947.

Phyllis began her profession as an educator at St. Agnes' School in Loudonville in 1947. The majority of her teaching years were spent at the Fort Plain Central School until her retirement in 1981. In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed traveling, stamping, ceramics, knitting, reading and gardening. She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association as well as the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association. She was a faithful member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Phyllis also was one of the first in the area, to receive the Golden Bar for Girl Scouts. She continued her involvement as a Girl Scout Leader as a parent. Above all she loved her family and was devoted to them. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her parents and one sister, Elaine Dickman.

Her loving family includes her husband of 60 years, Charles C. Crooker, whom she married on January 1, 1949 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie; two daughters, Diane Oster and her husband Kim of Loudon, TN and Jeannine Bonhoff and her husband David of Fly Creek, NY; one son, Terry Crooker and his wife Cheryl of Johnstown, NY; five grandchildren, Stephanie Oster, Allison Oster, Kristin Bonhoff, Captains Gerod Bonhoff and his wife Catherine, and Ryan Crooker; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 12 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. Nancy Ryan presiding. Interment will take place at a later date in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call beginning at 10 o'clock prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Plain Reformed Church, 165 Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

Jane M. Schuler
Born in Palatine Bridge, NY on Feb. 18, 1921

Mrs. Jane M. Schuler, 87, of Prospect Street, Canajoharie, died suddenly Monday, February 9, 2009 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. Born on February 18, 1921 in Palatine Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Angelica Spraker Van Wie.

A lifelong area resident, Jane was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. She later went on to attend Sergeant College, which was affiliated with Boston University. She graduated in 1943 as a physical therapist.

Jane was at one time the head of physical therapy at Sunyview. She later was employed as a health teacher for Canajoharie retiring in 1991.
Jane was an active member of St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. She was a life member of the Girl Scouts of America and was a senior life guard at the Canajoharie Pool. In her 70's she was involved with the Library as a teacher for the reading hour. She also had memberships in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Club. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

On August 15, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ralph Schuler. That union lasted 32 years until his passing in 1978. She was also predeceased by a son, William Schuler in 2003.

Her loving family includes her daughter, Julianne Vooys of Schenectady; her brother and best friend, Barton Van Wie of Canajoharie; three grandchildren, Jennifer Donaldson, David Donaldson and Amber Miller; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 11 o'clock at St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Church Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. Elaine Berg presiding. Interment of her remains will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie where her arrangements have been entrusted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church or to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Charles M. Sager
Born in Amsterdam, New York on May 15, 1933
At Rest Feb. 2, 2009 and resided in Olympia, WA.

Jesus called Charles M. Sager, 75, of Olympia Washington and formerly of Amsterdam, New York, to his heavenly reward on Monday, February 2, 2009.
Charles was born in Amsterdam, New York, on May 15, 1933, a son of James and Josephine Sager.
He was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. In 1954, Charley married Helen M. Laymon of Cherry Valley, New York. Charles served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 assigned to HQ Company 14th Infantry in Hawaii.
Charles was a Mason Superintendent and worked in New York, Florida and Washington State. His most memorable job building sites were working at NASA, building the summer home baseball field of the Pittsburg Pirates baseball team, University of Washington, the Tumwater Library and the Puyallup Tribal School.
Charles enjoyed fishing in the Great Sacandaga Lake with his friends and family. In his later years he really loved playing Santa in the local malls, with a real beard that the children always wanted to tug on.
Charles and Helen Sager lived a happy life in New York, Florida, and Washington State. Helen Sager passed away on November 11, 2001.
Charley then fell in love with Helen Spain. They enjoyed traveling the state and visited almost every casino in western Washington and Oregon. They were members of the Old Town Center Choir. They enjoyed playing cards and watching old movies on cable. They loved visiting with family and grandchildren. Helen Spain was truly a blessing for all.
Charles is survived by his one beloved son, John Paul Sager and his wife, Michelle of Olympia, ; one beloved daughter, Lori Jason of Bradenton, Florida; four cherished grandchildren, Austin and Garrett Sager and Robert and Danny Jason; five great grandchildren Michael, Kayla, Jarrett, Natale, Hunter, and Jenna-Marie Jason. His dear brother, Richard Sager and his wife Carol of Schenectady New York, and a sister-in-law Patricia Sager of Gloversville, New York.
Charles was also blessed with four step children, Pat McLaughlin, Virginia (Ginny) and Jim Vinson, Elizabeth (Liz) and Warren (Spud) Murphy, and Robert (Bob) and Mary Spain. They provided Helen and Charley with fourteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren to enjoy life with.
Charles was predeceased in life by his beloved son Michael G. Sager who passed away on August 16, 1967.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 1021 Boundary St. SE, in Olympia on Friday, February 6, 2009, at 3:00 p.m., with full military honors bestowed. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, New York under the care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Christopher L. Teabout
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Dec. 24, 1961

Mr. Christopher L. Teabout, 47, of Milton Ave, Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly Friday February 6th, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on December 24th, 1961 a son of Martin and Maxine Roby Teabout. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and a 1981 graduate of Amsterdam High School. Mr. Teabout served in the U.S. Army during the 1980's.
Mr. Teabout worked for many years at FGI in Amsterdam. He was an accomplished musician and drummer. He played in various bands in the area most notable The Lab. He was also a D.J. in the area and enjoyed gospel and spiritual music. He played pool in many area leagues and was a die hard Steelers and Yankees fan. Christopher was also a member of the Soul Saving Station For All Nations Church in Saratoga Springs, NY where he was an active member of the music ministry.
He is survived by his companion Virginia Mee of Amsterdam. Five brothers, Carlton Teabout (Sheri) of Las Vegas, Nevada. Martin E. Teabout (Nelva) of Johnstown, NY , Charles Teabout of Amsterdam, Jeffrey Teabout of Amsterdam and Michael Teabout of Rochester, NY. Four aunts, Marilyn Lyons, Bernice Gunther, Arlene Harp and Catherine Teabout. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Teabout was predeceased by a sister Geraldine Teabout.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 10th, 2009 at 11:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Bishop Arnold Byrd presiding. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Soul Saving Station, 62 Henry St., Saratoga Springs, NY.

Angela Bedell
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Aug. 20, 1975

Angela Bedell, 33, of McElwain Avenue, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Albany Medical Center. She was born in Amsterdam August 20, 1975 a daughter of Joseph and Deborah Bedell.

Angela was a life resident of the area and was a 1994 graduate of Amsterdam High School. She was employed with Amsterdam Print for about 6 years and enjoyed her responsibilities there. She was of Roman Catholic faith and attended several different churches in the area.

Angela enjoyed the beauty of artwork and loved to paint and color as a hobby. She also loved all of her friends and extended family at Liberty Day Treatment in Amsterdam where she spent many happy times.

Angela's loving family includes her companion of over 8 years, Robert Gray of Amsterdam, her sister, Brandy Bedell of Vernon Center, her brother, Douglas Bedell of Vernon Center, and all of her extended family at Liberty Day Treatment in Amsterdam.

Prayer Services will be at 11:00AM on Monday, February 9, 2009 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with Fr. John Medwid, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY. Contributions in Angela's memory may be made to the Liberty Foundation, PO Box 515, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
