BOGART OP, SR. MARY BENEDICT

Sister Mary Benedict Bogart, OP (Joyce B. Bogart) died on May 13, 2010, at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, NY after an extended illness. She was born June 29, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of Joseph Beall Bogart and Louise Trem Bogart. Sister entered the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne October 7, 1945, after working as a accountant and office clerk. Sister made her Profession of Vows, on September 14, 1947. Sister Benedict served at Sacred Heart Home in Philadelphia, PA from 1950 to 1951. She was transferred to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home in Atlanta in 1951. In 1968 she was transferred to Holy Family Home in Cleveland, Ohio and remained there as Financial Secretary until November 2004 when she returned to the Motherhouse in Hawthorne, NY. At Rosary Hill she was assigned to various projects in our archives. Sister obtained a B.A. at Ursuline College, Cleveland on May 16, 1978. She was also licensed as a Practical Nurse. Sister Mary Benedict is survived by two cousins, Joena (Bill) Meier of Jacksonville, Il. and Leland Smith of Phoenix, AZ. A wake will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010, at Rosary Hill Home from 4:00pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 10:30am in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary at Rosary Hill Home.

BRUZZANO, RALPH JOHN

Ralph John Bruzzano of New Rochelle, NY passed away on May 12, 2010. Born in Bath Beach Brooklyn NY, on February 8 1922, the son of Elvira ( Larocca) Bruzzano and Anthony Bruzzano. Ralph was a veteran of WWII, surviving in the Navy, stationed on a battle/repair ship in the Pacific War. He was honorably discharged and the recipient of The American Theater Medal, Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal. He married his beloved wife Josephine (Messina) Bruzzano on November 11, 1951. She predeceased him on September 4, 2008. Mr. Bruzzano loved life, friends and family, opera, Italian Arts and culture, dining out and fine cigars and will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his children: Ralph Jr., and Patricia of New Rochelle NY and Arnold Bruzzano of Harrison NY., grandson Matthew Bruzzano, brother Anthony Bruzzano, Nyack, NY, daughter-in-law Kathy Bruzzano and Maria Pantori fianc e of Ralph Jr. He was predeceased by his sister Concetta Bruzzano. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. CARLIN, ANDREW C.

Andrew C. Carlin of Yonkers died on Wednesday May 12, 2010, at age 78. He was born on February 3, 1932 to Andrew and Hazel (Ferraro) in Brooklyn where he was raised and graduated from Bishop Loughlin H.S., St. John's University and Harvard Law School. Mr. Carlin was a self employed Lawyer and also worked as a Real Estate Broker. He was a Korean Army Vet and member of the Yonkers Chamber of Commerce where he was former Executive President. Andrew is survived by his daughter Erin Koch and her husband Yonatan of New Rochelle, three grandchildren Duncan, Jason and Avigayil and his sister Carol Dunbar. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in Our Lady of Fatima Church, So. Broadway, Yonkers on Saturday May 15th at 10:30AM. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens. Donations in his memory may be made to the Bronx Veteran's Hospital, 130 W. CASSIDY, ELLEN

Ellen F. Cassidy on May 12, 2010 Beloved wife of the late Arthur B. Cassidy, Loving mother of Jeremiah Cassidy and Kyran Cassidy, Dear sister of the late Sarah Fitzpatrick and the late Kyran Bent, Adoring Grandmother of Noah, Matthew, Declan and Luca. Graduate of Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School (1943). Born to Grinnell Bent and Ellen Bergin Bent in Fort Greene, Brooklyn on February 4, 1925. She moved to Larchmont in 1961. She was a parishioner of Sts. John & Paul and later St. Augustine and a member of the Larchmont Shore Club and the New York Athletic Club. Ellen was best known for her elegant style, exotic hats and salty humor on the "shady" side of the pool. She relished the simple joys of life and laughed at its foibles. She was kind and generous, especially to her friends and those of her children. For the last six months, she lived with her son Kyran and his family and took daily adventures with her new friend Gladys. On her last day, they sat on the beach at City Island, eating shrimp and watching the birds. She passed peacefully later that day in her bed. Visiting today 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538. Mass Saturday 10 am at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

DAWSON, JOSEPH Z.

Joseph Z. Dawson, former Principal of Carmel High School and a long time resident of Carmel, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2010, at the age of 93 with his family by his side. Joseph was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on December 2, 1916 to Vivian and John Dawson who had emigrated from Poland in 1913. Joseph graduated from Mt. Kisco High School in 1936 and Springfield College in 1940. While in high school and college he achieved much athletic success participating in football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, and track. He later received a Master's Degree in school administration from New York University. In 1941 he began his education career at Carmel High School as the Athletic Director and coach of several sports. In 1943 he joined the Army Air Corp where he served as a celestial navigation instructor on B-17 and B-29 bombers, achieving the rank of Captain. He returned to Carmel High School in 1947 as both a science teacher and assistant principal. He became the principal of Carmel HS in 1951 and served in that capacity until 1973 when he was appointed Superintendent of Schools. He retired from the Carmel School District in 1975. Joseph and his wife Rose were also the founders and co-owners of the Carmel Indoor Tennis Club which opened in 1977. Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Rose Ann Lieto. He is survived by his three children, Linda (Raymond) Southard of Carmel, Robert (Peggy) Dawson of Maryland and Debra (Joe) Dawson of Manhattan. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Brett (Robyn), Chase, Allison, Rian, Lindsay, Cassie, and Laura. He was especially proud of his great-grandson, Jake Dawson Southard. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine and is survived by a sister, Jean of Florida. Joseph was a man of many talents and interests. For many years he operated Camp Wanakea, a summer day camp in Carmel. He was also an avid photographer, golfer, and an adjunct sports instructor and administrator for Dutchess Community College. He was a founding member of the Carmel Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of his lifelong service to the community. In his later years he was a resident of the Plaza at Clover Lake Senior Residence and the Putnam Ridge Nursing Home where he continued to enjoy life and make many friends. The family will receive friends at the Cargain Funeral Home in Carmel on Sunday from 2-6 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. James RC Church in Carmel on Monday at 10 AM. DUCLOS, PHILOMENA C.

Philomena C. Duclos, 71, of Lake Carmel died May 12, 2010. Born July 17, 1938 in Kilkenny Ireland, she was the daughter of Michael and Christina Burke Traynor. Philomena came to America in 1956 and was a resident of Montrose before moving to Lake Carmel. She married Roger Duclos in Tarrytown in 1959. Philomena was a member of the Ladies AOH, Kitty Geissler Division 11. She was a loving mother and adoring grandmother. She loved traveling especially with her brother on their annual trip home to Ireland. She is survived by her children Kevin (Stephanie) of New York City, Brian (Maria) of Carmel, Yvonne (William Shrubb) Duclos of Stormville and Noel of Danbury, CT. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michael of San Diego and Kenny and Michelle of Carmel as well as her brother Eddie (Brenda) Traynor of England and her sisters-in-law Gloria (Red) Schiavi and Lillian Duclos. She was predeceased by her husband Roger in 2006 as well as her three brothers. Visitation will be at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME on Friday (today)from 2-4 & 7-9PM. FARGIN, THOMAS

Thomas Fargin, 92, died March 28, 2010. Survived by daughters April Hussey, Jackie (James) Picchione, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by wife Carmen and son-in-law Harold. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, May 15, 9 am, St. Bartholomew's Church East Brunswick, Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
