PICARIELLO, DOROTHY - Dorothy Picariello of Grassy Point, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 25, 2007, with her loving family by her side. She was 88 years old. Dorothy loved her family and enjoyed all of their activities together, especially trips to various events, and being a major part of her children and grandchildren's lives. She worked as a Housekeeping Supervisor at the Dellwood Country Club for over thirty years. Survivors include her daughters, Anne and her husband Sylvester J. Jones of Stony Point; Marie Picariello, formerly of Grassy Point, and her partner, Sally Kramer of Valley Cottage, NY; her son, Nunzio of Stony Point, six grandchildren; Debbie and her husband Ken Howard, Mark (wife Lora) Jones, Jacki (husband Jim) Jones-Forzano, Jennifer (husband David) Annunziato, Janice May Ramirez and Thomas May. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren; Amanda, Brian, Megan, Michael, Sarah, Emma, Gabriella, Samantha and Thomas. A sister Elizabeth Weyant and two sisters-in-law, Bessie Otto and Lorraine Picariello. A dear friend, Janice LaGrange also survives her. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Nunzio and her daughter Dorothy May. Friends may call at the Edward C. Finn Funeral Home in Stony Point, on Sunday, January 28, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM, in Immaculate Conception Church, with died January 25, 2007. Beloved mother of Cynthia DeBruin of Eastchester, and Carol Selvey of Bradenton, FL. Cherished and devoted grandmother to Alexander and Jessica DeBruin of Eastchester and Laura Selvey of Bradenton, and sister to Katherine Mayer of Point Pleasant, NJ, and Marianne Moore of Flourtown, PA. Born on February 19, 1930, to William Harding Moore and Catherine Sheffield Egloff, in Manhattan, Jeanne was raised in Flushing, NY. She married Emilio Rivera, Jr., her college sweetheart and lifelong love, in 1952. Emilio, who was a noted professor and Dean of the State University of New York, predeceased her in January 1972. She graduated with honors from Bayside High School and Queens College, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Education at Adelphi University. Jeanne held teaching positions at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich and at the Murray Avenue School in Larchmont, NY, from 1970 to 1974. Although she left the teaching profession in 1974, she continued to educate those around her through her fine intellect, as well as her knowledge and love of art, literature, and music, which she so freely shared. Jeanne was employed at various area locations by Continental Can Corporation (now Crown Cork and Seal) from 1975 through 1990. At the time of her death, she was employed at Kurzman, Eisenberg, Corbin, and Lever, LLP, of White Plains, NY. In addition to her children, grandchildren and sisters, Jeanne is survived by several adoring nieces and nephews, her dedicated sons-in law, Edward DeBruin and Leland Selvey, and her loving cousin, Thomas S. Hogan of Manhattan. A gathering in Jeanne's honor will be held at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC., EASTCHESTER, on Saturday, January 27, from 1-5 PM. The Memorial Service to celebrate her life will take place at the Scarsdale Congregational Church, UCC, on Sunday, January 28, at 2:30 PM. A private interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye. In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Jeanne are suggested to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam, or Save the Children.

BANAS, SANDRA LEE
Sandra Lee Banas, 64, formerly of New Paltz, NY, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at her residence in Newport, NC. Mrs. Banas was a graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz. She was a longtime community volunteer, children's advocate, and an employee of the Task Force for Child Protection both in Ulster and Dutchess Counties. She is survived by her husband, David Banas of Newport NC; sons, David R. Banas of Delmar, NY, Jeremy M. Banas of Kingston, NY, and Joseph F. Banas of Miramore, CA; daughters, Brandie L. Gibbons of New Paltz, NY and Georgiana L. Flack of Strongsville, OH; sisters, Anne Klopchin of Congers, NY and Jeanette DeBinski of Garnerville, NY. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Benjamin P. Banas and her parents, Joseph E. and Rose L. Scalabrin. Calling hours and Memorial Service will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in Congers, NY on Wednesday, January 30 from 7-9 p.m. A Mass is scheduled at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Congers for Thursday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. The family has asked in lieu of flowers that donations in her memory be made to The Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse in Poughkeepsie, NY.

BENDER, DEAN D.
Dean D. Bender, age 86, of South Salem, a resident for 39 years, died on January 26, 2008 at his residence. He was born September 18, 1921 in Kewanee Illinois to William Jacob and Ella Bender, both deceased. He was an engineer before retirement. He worked for the U.S. Merchant Marine, served in World War II and Korea Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was educated in Kewanne, Illinois. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Church, and Nocturnal Adoration Society. He will be remembered for volunteering and delivering bread for the food pantry in Katonah. He is survived by sons John D. Bender and Dean J. Bender, daughter Catherine Ann Bender-DeSantis, grandsons Chad DeSantis and Dean DeSantis. He is predeceased by his wife Theresa. The family will receive friends at CLARK ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME, Katonah, NY on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday 11:30 am at St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Church. Interment will follow at South Salem Cemetery. BRUNO, BERNARD J.
Bernard J. Bruno, 80, of Valhalla, NY, died January 27, 2008 at his residence. He was born on December 4, 1927 in the Bronx, NY. He served in the U S Army during World War II. He worked for the New York Transit Authority (MTA) from 1970 -1990 and later for Home Depot in Port Chester, NY. He is survived by his devoted wife Marie (nee Tuccitto) Bruno, his loving children Angela Bruno and her husband Stephen Albanese, and John P. Bruno all of Valhalla, NY. Predeceased by one son Paul J. CANCRO, MICHAEL DONALD
Don Cancro, a resident of Yonkers for 51 years, passed away January 26, 2008 of complications from lung cancer. He was 80 years of age. Mr. Cancro was born on September 15, 1927 to Michael Donald and Marie Autori Cancro of the Bronx. He was retired from his 40 year career as Engineering Department Head of the Unisys Corporation in Great Neck, NY (previously Sperry Corporation). Mr. Cancro received his BS degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, and his Masters in Metallurgy from New York University. He was a veteran of WWII. He enjoyed using his ingenuity to create, invent and repair things. His favorite times were spent with family and friends, and fishing, boating and being by the sea. He is pre deceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Jeanette Leo Cancro, and his dear sister Thelma Cancro Nickerson. He is survived by his devoted children, Steven (Lidia Fouto) Cancro, Carol Cancro and Janice Coleman, and by grandchildren, Thomas, Kevin, Claire and Giulia. CARR, JOSEPH
Joseph Louis Carr, 67, passed away 1/21/08 at his home in New Rochelle, NY. Mr. Carr was born on 1/21/41 in St. Petersburg, Fl. He served in the US Army. Then he became a police officer with the NYC Housing Authority, for 20 years, retiring as Sergeant in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Regina Carr, a brother and sister, 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
