Pollack, Dr. Alben R., of Bedford, New York, died on March 16, 2009, peacefully at a family home after a battle with cancer. Alben was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 17, 1934 to Reuben Pollack and Minnie Markowitz. He attended Alfred University where he met his wife of 50 years, Carol Pollack. He then went on to earn his Doctorate of Dentistry from the University of Maryland. Al served in the United States Air Force for three years as a dentist, before entering into private practice. He established and grew a solo dental practice in White Plains, New York in which he served the people of Westchester County for over 30 years. Al focused his life on family. He enjoyed hosting the annual family Thanksgiving celebration and spending summer vacations with the children and grandchildren. He spent much of the last eight years caring for his wife, Carol, throughout her battle with cancer. He also enjoyed gardening and volunteering time at the Community Center of Westchester County. Alben was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Minnie, and by his loving wife, Carol. He is survived by his three children, Cris, Steve, and Ron; his seven grandchildren, Alana, Andrew, Shoshana, Daniel , Joel, Alissa and Jessica; his daughters-in-law, Linda and Susan; and by his brother, Joseph. The family will receive friends on Friday March 20, 2009 at 9:00 AM at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, New York. The funeral services will be at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at New Montefiore Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Center of Westchester County; www.communitycenterwc.org.

RENWICK, JR., JOHN PHILLIP, of Bedford, NY, died January 8, 2009 at age 87. He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Husted Renwick and is survived by their sons, John P. Renwick III of Katonah, NY, James B. Renwick of Bedford, NY, David R. Renwick of Rehobeth, MA and their wives, Meryl S. Renwick, Marjorie B. Renwick and Terell N. Renwick. He is also survived by his sister, Beatrice R. Jordan of Newtown Square, PA and ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He attended Taff School and Trinity College; served in the Army in WW II and played field hockey in the 1948 Olympics. For many years he owned and managed Renwick and Winterling Real Estate in Bedford. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. Matthews Church, Bedford, NY 10506. A Memorial service will be held at St. Matthews on January 13, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.

RICE, RUTH E., a 52 year resident of South Salem, NY, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Northern Westchester Hospital after a prolonged illness. She was 86.
Miss Rice was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 7, 1922, the only child of William R. Rice and Marie E. Morrisey Rice. Her Grandparents were Senator Jacob Rice and Sophie Derrenbacher Rice of Kingston and William Morrisey and Minnie J. Morrisey of Yonkers, NY. She lived her childhood in her parents home next door to her Morrisey grandparents. She moved to Bronxville in the mid 1950s and to South Salem in 1956, where she remained until her death.
Miss Rice was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, The College of New Rochelle with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Fordam University where she earned a Masters Degree in Social Services.
Her passion was Social Work and she was employed by Catholic Charities and volunteered with the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps. During her career she drove ambulances, tended to the sick and injured and received several Public Service awards for her ham radio work during natural disasters.
She is survived by loving members of the Rice and Morrisey families all across the USA, from first cousin, Agnes Rice Silo of Pelham, NY to first cousin, Donald C. Morrisey of Seattle, WA. She will be remembered fondly by numerous close friends and members of her church, St. Mary of the Assumption, Katonah, NY.
Ruth was admired for her spirit, generosity and can-do personality. She was an avid boater, loving both sailing and power boating and spent many wonderful hours on the water with friends and cruising solo. She not only piloted the boat, she maintained it with a skill that enabled her to take care of herself and others in almost any situation imaginable. She drove the ambulances with great skill, performing all her work extremely well in what then was a man's world.
She will also be remembered for her devout faith and her life-long participation with the Church. From this came her devotion to Social Work and many were helped by her when their need was the greatest.
The family will receive friends at her Memorial Service to be held at her church, St. Mary of the Assumption, 117 Valley Road, Katonah, NY at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009. Internment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY where she will rest with her parents and maternal grandmother.

Roberts, Elsie Mae, 88, a longtime resident of Katonah, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Roberts was born August 17, 1920 in Bedford Hills, NY the daughter of Gertrude Harrison and George Blaine. Elsie was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Katonah and an honorary member of the Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She is the loving mother of Bernard Jr. of Katonah, NY and Roberta and Terri Roberts of Palmyra, NY and devoted grandmother of Amy of Katonah and Rebecca of Katonah. And doting great grandmother of Brandon, Isabella and Ryan. She is the sister of Madolin Davies of Bedford Hills and Gertrude DeWitt of Meriden, CT and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY. The Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Katonah on Sat at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Kisco, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Susan Lilley Russell is at peace. She died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, in New York City.
Susan was born on March 30, 1948, in Cambridge, Mass., to Nancy and Tom Lilley. Soon after her birth, the family -- including her two big sisters Anne and Cynthia -- moved to Michigan where they made a home in Ann Arbor.
Susan was a proud "Pioneer" in the city's schools, and graduated in 1966. She remained in Ann Arbor and enrolled at the University of Michigan, majoring in art history. She followed her passion to Florence, Italy, where she earned her master's degree in art restoration.
In 1977, Susan married the love of her life, Don. Together they raised their two children, Kristin and James, from their home in Bedford Hills. Every year they traveled to a family cottage in Old Mission, Michigan, where Susan had spent nearly every summer since she was a child. The family will always treasure the memories from those special trips.
Susan and Don owned and operated Russell's Carpet Warehouse in Ridgefield, Conn., for more than 12 years. Early retirement allowed them to move to Sharon, Conn., in 1999, where they were embraced by the close-knit community.
In recent years, Susan continued her trips to Michigan to be refreshed by the woods and waters of Old Mission, and the laughs and smiles of her four grandchildren. They will miss their "Nana."
Susan's intellect was amazing, her courage was an inspiration, and her wry sense of humor brought smiles to everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Benjamin Hammond. She is survived by her husband Don, her children, Kristin (Russell) Sulecki and James (Andrea) Russell, her grandchildren, Ben, Scout, Janie and Lola, her sisters, Anne Hammond and Cynthia (Peter Heinrich) Lilley, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Clark Associates Funeral Home 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY, from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will take place in the spring on Old Mission.
Memorials may be directed to Planned Parenthood.

Sardanelli, Chiara, age 83, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at home in Bedford Hills. Mrs. Sardanelli was born April 4, 1926 in Bari, Italy. She was a Homemaker.
Chiara is the daughter of the late Francis and Cecilia Petaroscia. She is survived by her beloved husband: Rocco Sardanelli and four loving daughters: Tina Sardanelli, Cecilia Hobbs, Mickey Sardanelli,and Maria Swain. She is the cherished grandmother of three grandchildren; granddaughter, Samantha Hobbs; granddaughter, Alexandria Swain; and grandson, Ian Swain.
The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at10:00 am on Monday, September 21, 2009 at St. Mary Of The Assumption R.C. Church, 117 Valley Road, Katonah, NY. Interment followed at All Souls Cemetery, Pleasantville.
A visitation was held for family and friends on Sunday, September 20,2009 at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY.

Scarsella, Joseph A., a 23 year resident of South Salem, died on July 1 at Northern Westchester Hospital. He was 49. Joe was born January 27, 1960 to Edward and Marie Scarsella and grew up in Bedford Hills. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School, John F. Kennedy High School and Syracuse University where he obtained a degree in Landscape Architecture. After graduating, Joe worked at Pound Ridge Nursery before starting his own landscape design firm in 1986. Joe kept an office in Bedford Hills and his business has grown steadily over the past 23 years. An avid lacrosse enthusiast as a player and a coach, Joe dedicated much of his time to coaching in the Katonah Lewisboro boys youth lacrosse program and was most recently an assistant coach with the John Jay High School varsity team. Joe will be remembered for his sense of humor, his many friendships and his love for the outdoors. He loved the beach and spent many summers on Nantucket and winters in Jamaica. Joe is survived by his wife Lisa and daughter Samantha of South Salem; parents Edward and Marie of Goldens Bridge; brother Michael of Briarcliff Manor; mother-in-law and father-in-law Pat and Agnes D’Avola of Mount Kisco; nieces and nephews Anthony, Morgan, Emma, Jameson and Sophia; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends at Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah, NY on July 4 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM, Sunday July 5 at 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 6 at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church, Katonah, NY. Internment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Mount Kisco, NY.
