SIRACUSA, SARAH

Sarah Siracusa, a resident of Yonkers for over 60 years, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 87 years of age. Born Sarah Lee Connolly to Elizabeth McCallion Connolly and Martin Connolly in Dumbarton, Scotland in 1921, Sarah immigrated to the United States in 1926, and made South Yonkers and Riverdale her early home and place of work. In 1929 she married Michael James Siracusa and moved to North Yonkers where she had her family, and resided for the major part of her life. Her places of employment included the Alexander Smith Carpet Co. and Schrafft's Inc. Because of her love of children, she also worked for many years in home childcare and frequently for the Mother Goose Childcare Agency. During her years in Yonkers, Sarah was a devoted communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of the Monastery, and more recently Christ the King Church, and St. Eugene's Parish. She had an exceptional talent as a seamstress and knitter, and many friends and relatives reaped the benefits of her beautiful needlecrafts. She is survived by her beloved husband, Michael, loving daughter, Elizabeth McCallion Siracusa, sister Jean Kelly of Balloch, Scotland, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Martin Connolly and sisters Mary McCormick and Grace Kearney. Sarah will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Visiting Hours will be at the Flynn Memorial Home on Friday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Eugene's Church, Yonkers, on Saturday at 11 AM. DOERNBERG, DUDLEY DAVID JR.

Dudley David Doernberg, Jr., 95, of Scarsdale, NY, died August 29, 2008. Mr. Doernberg was born March 20, 1913 to the late Dudley David Doernberg and Blanche Heyman Doernberg. Surviving are devoted sons Don (Cyndy Pope) Doernberg, Richard (Nancy) Doernberg, David (Tara) Doernberg and John (Carol Ehrlich) Doernberg. Also survived by loving sister Margery Bruno, nine adoring grandchildren: Doug, Emily, Alison, Sarah, Henry, Ellen, Samuel, Molly and Harry, and many devoted nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Nanette Doernberg, cherished sisters Beatrice Hecht and Natalie Hofheimer and brothers-in-law Joseph Hofheimer and Howard Bruno. Doernberg is best known for heading the real estate agency founded by his father in 1926 that bears his name. Services will be held at Congregation Kol Ami, 252 Soundview Avenue, White Plains, New York, Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. FERNANDES, ROBERT D.

Robert D. Fernandes, "Bob", age 74, died peacefully on August 30, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 12, 1934 to Manuel and Rose (Abbondola) Fernandes in Yonkers where he was raised and educated. Bob was the owner and operator of the famous Jo-Jo's Hot Dog Stand noted for its delicious onion sauce. The City of Yonkers DPW employed him for over 35 years as a Labor Supervisor of the Sanitation Department and as the Manager of the Sewer Department until his retirement in December 1999. On April 14, 1955 he married Mary Dugan in Sacred Heart Monastery Church, she survives living in Yonkers. He was a parishioner of this Church where he enjoyed volunteering for Bingo; a member of VFW Post 1666 and the Amackassin Club. Bob was an avid deep-sea fisherman and Mets fan. He served his country in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the Destroyer USS Allen M. Sumner DD692 that circumnavigated the world following the route of Magellan. He was often quoted as saying, "I was in every 'Port of Call' in the world and there's no place like America!" He was proud to be a "Shellback!" We will miss our Sunday dinners and watching the Lottery results with him. Besides his devoted wife, Mary, he is survived by his four loving daughters, Laura (Frank) Sinatra, Jr. of Yonkers, Catherine (William) Nowak of Yonkers, Anne Riti of Cortlandt Manor and Jennifer DeMascio of Yonkers; nine cherished grandchildren, Christine and William Nowak, Frank III and Robert Sinatra, Danielle, Ashley and Mary DeMascio and Nicole and Robert Riti; one adored great-granddaughter, Gianna Nowak-Ujkic; two sisters, Marie Pizzuti of Scarsdale and Linda Silliman of Yonkers and many special nieces and nephews. His parents, a brother Joseph and a sister Ann, predeceased him. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave. on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass at the Sacred Heart Monastery Church on Tuesday at 10:30 AM, followed by an interment at St. Mary's Cemetery.

HENDRICKS, RAYMOND F.

Raymond F. Hendricks, of Yonkers, NY, died relatively peacefully on August 28, 2008, two days short of his 88th birthday. Raymond was born in South Amboy, NJ, and his parents soon moved to Nepperhan Ave. in Yonkers. The son of Joseph and Anna (Kovalik) Hendricks, he was one of eight children and completed one year at Gorton High School after which he started working full time at the age of 15 to help support the family. Raymond served proudly and honorably during WWII as a Sergeant in the 6th Army Air Force stationed at France Field, Panama for 3 years as a crew chief and mechanic. He returned to NY in 1945 where he worked as a truck driver for many years. He retired after 25 years with the NYS Thruway Authority where he worked as the master carpenter and bridge dock builder Supervisor of the Tappan Zee Bridge. In 1952 he designed and built his own home on Fennimore Ave. where he lived with his wife Helen (Palica). Helen passed away in December 2003. He met his wife at a church bazaar and fell in love the second he set his eyes on her. Together they raised two children, Marylyn Rinaldi of Solana Beach, CA and Raymond Jerry Hendricks of Ardsley, NY. Raymond leaves behind three grandchildren Christine, Laura and Raymond John and four great grandchildren Noah, Kalea, Ryan and Andrew. Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Bartholomew's Church on Wednesday September 3rd at 10 AM. LEONARD, ELAINE

Elaine Leonard (nee Smith), of Hartsdale, NY, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008. She is survived by her devoted husband David, her daughter Beth Fass, son Andrew Leonard, grandsons Jeremy and Matthew Fass, and brother Joel Smith. She was an accomplished artist, a devoted teacher, a community volunteer, and a good friend to many. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 625 McLean Ave., Yonkers, NY at 11:00AM (Phone: 914-965-0660). LIVIDINI, NANCY

Lividini, Nancy (nee Ciancio) on August 31, 2008 at age 88. Nancy was born in New Rochelle on March 23, 1920 to Frank and Annunziata Ciancio. The beloved wife of the late Peter, dear step-mother to Joseph Lividini and Catherine Duggan, proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren, cherished sister of the late Joseph, Teddy, George, Michael, Frank and John Ciancio and Caroline Agnifilio. Also survived by many loving nephews and nieces. Reposing on Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME, 767 East Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck. Funeral mass Wednesday 10 a.m. at Sts. John & Paul R.C. Church followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

MARTELL, MARIE A.

Marie A. Martell, 87, of New Hartford, NY, passed away Friday, August 29, 2008 at St. Joseph Nursing Home. Marie was born on June 22, 1921 in Sleepy Hollow, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Capozza Zuccardo. She attended St. Theresa's Elementary School and graduated from North Tarrytown High School. On October 6, 1946, she married Joseph A. Martell in the Immaculate Conception Church, Sleepy Hollow. Mr. Martell passed away in 2004. Marie was employed as a bookkeeper at Transcontinental Credit and Collections in Elmsford, retiring in 1990. In April of 1995 the Martell's moved to New Hartford, NY. Marie was an active member of the Live Oak Engine Company Ladies Auxiliary in Elmsford. Surviving Marie are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Keith Slade, Wappingers Falls, NY and JoAnn and Donald Alberico, New Hartford; son, Richard Martell, Utica; sister, Teresa Cabezas, Taunton, MA; grandson, Christian Lutz, New Hartford, a niece and several nephews. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at McElroy-Flynn Funeral Home, Inc., Elmsford. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Remembrances in Marie's name may be made to the St. Joseph Nursing Home, 2535 Genesee St., Utica, NY 13501.
