Lisa Marie Moray
EAST FISHKILL - Lisa Marie Moray, 22, a lifelong area resident, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in the Town of Greenburgh from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Lisa was born on August 22, 1985 in Poughkeepsie, the daughter of Walter "Butch" Moray and Donna Safko Moray. She graduated in 2004 from Roy C. Ketcham High School where she was a member of the Varsity Girl's Basketball Team. She continued her career in basketball as a member of the Women's Basketball Team at Sacred Heart University where she graduated in May with a Bachelors Degree in Education. As an athlete, Lisa received many awards including being the all-time leading scorer for the Wappingers Central School District with 2, 021 career points. Lisa loved being with her family including her parents who survive at home; her sisters, Cheryl Wilkinson and her husband, James of Wappingers Falls, Lori Straley and her husband, Greg of Pleasant Valley, and Debi Moray of Hopewell Junction; her nieces and nephew, Julianne and Jessica Wilkinson, Heather Martino and Anthony Moray; her grandmother, Phyllis Moray of Yonkers; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 405, LaGrangeville, NY 12540.

Robert A. Spar
ELKRIDGE, MD - Robert A. Spar, 44, died peacefully in his sleep on April 15th at home in Elkridge, MD. He moved to Maryland in 1988 when he received his law degree from Catholic University's Columbus School of Law and was hired by Weinberg & Green. He remained with the law firm when it merged 10 years later and became Saul Ewing. He was a tax attorney and partner in his firm and was co-chair of his firm's Life Sciences Practice, which handles legal issues for hospitals and medical technology firms. He was very involved in many community programs. He was a member and past chair of The Lawyers Campaign Against Hunger, as well as past chair of The Lawyers Campaign for the College Bound. He was past president and on the Board of Directors for the Independent College Fund of Maryland and on the Board of Directors for People Pride, Inc. (The Maryland You Are Beautiful Program) He was also on the Board of Directors for the UMBC Research Park and Chair of the Maryland Incubator Co. of The Year Awards, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Greater Baltimore Technology Council and on the Advisory Board of the Baltimore Jr. Association of Commerce, Inc. He was the recipient of several honors and awards. He was named to "The Best Lawyers in America" list, Tax Law, Woodward White, 2008; named one of "Maryland's Legal Elite" by Baltimore SmartCEO, 2006; named one of "Maryland's Top 40 Legal Elite" by Baltimore SmartCEO, 2005; and was a graduate of the GBC Leadership Program. Survivors include his wife, Anne; three daughters, Jennifer, Nicole, and Lindsey; his parents, Phyllis and Vincent; a brother, Stephen; and two nephews, Zachary and Elliott in addition to a close cousin, Linda Lebensold, as well as many other cousins and good friends. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 21st at the Best Western Conference Center on Rt. 9 in the Town of Poughkeepsie at 11:00am.

Leo Sparacio
CLINTONDALE - Leo Sparacio, 70, formerly of Clintondale, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Mr. Sparacio was the cherished husband of Lena; the devoted father of Lynda and Carol and the dearest brother of Marie, Madeline & Philip. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Kilian R.C. Church in Farmingdale. Interment was in Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Hilda Gertrude DeCandio
POUGHKEEPSIE - Hilda Gertrude DeCandio, 89, a Poughkeepsie resident for over 50 years and previously of Copake Falls, NY, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Wingate at Ulster Nursing Home in Highland. Before raising a family, she was a bookkeeper at the former Grand Union in Poughkeepsie. Born in Copake Falls on February 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Florence Ida VanDusen Pulver. She was a graduate of Hudson High School. In Poughkeepsie on July 22, 1960, she married Salvatore DeCandio. He predeceased her on July 16, 1981. Survivors include her son, Ricky DeCandio and wife, Raquel, of Wallkill; three grandchildren, Nicolas and Lindsay DeCandio, both of Poughkeepsie, and Laura Hulse of Wallkill; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Robert C. and Edward Pulver; and a sister, Della Pulver. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Thursday, July 3rd at the funeral home. Rev. Jennifer Barrows will be officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.

James B. "Dutch" Cruger
HYDE PARK - Hyde Park - James B. 'Dutch' Cruger, 76, a lifelong area resident, died Saturday October 18, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. Mr. Cruger worked for Fitchett Bros. Dairy for many years until his retirement. He and his wife, Millie, were also co-owners of the former Junction Tavern in Poughkeepsie. Dutch was a member of the Poughkeepsie Elks Club BPOE #275, Vail Wolff McKenna-Frye VFW Post #170, Poughkeepsie Moose Club #904, American Legion John Livingstone Post # 1466, and a Life-Member of the Rogers Point Boat Club, Hyde Park. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Cruger served in the United States Army and was assigned to the French Battalion, UN Ground Forces, in Korea. For his military service, he was awarded the French Croix de Guerre, the highest honor bestowed upon a non-citizen by the French Government, necessitating an Act of Congress before he could receive it because it was a foreign medal. He also received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Born in Poughkeepsie on August 2, 1932, he was the son of the late George and Edna Graves Cruger. He was a graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park. On November 20, 1955 in the former Nativity Church in Poughkeepsie, he married Millie M. Miller. Mrs. Cruger predeceased him on December 7, 2002. He is survived by his two sons, James B. Cruger Jr. and fiancé, Jennifer Ferrara, of Poughkeepsie, and George L. Cruger and wife, Carla, of Hyde Park; two daughters, Caren Thomas and husband, Ron, of Hyde Park, and Jill Hess and husband, Dave, of Hyde Park; five grandchildren, Laura and Cheryl Thomas, Christen and Jarrett Cruger, and James T. Cruger; a sister, Mary Crittenden and husband, Eugene, of Staatsburg; sister-in-law, Bitsy Stopski and husband, Vic, of Poughkeepsie; brother-in-law, Jim Miller and wife, Judy, of Poughkeepsie; sister-in-law, Irene Miller of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, George Cruger; and two sisters, Joan Palmatier and Elizabeth Bowe. Calling hours will be from 4 to 9 Pm, Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. James A. Garisto at 10 am, Wednesday, October 22nd at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, Hudson View Dr., Poughkeepsie. Entombment with military honors will follow in the Our Lady of the Holy Souls Mausoleum at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. In recognition of Dutch's love of animals, memorial donations may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538.

Julia M. Marcus
POUGHKEEPSIE - Julia M. Marcus, 91, a local Poughkeepsie resident all her life, died on Friday, October 17, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born September 13, 1917, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of John J. and Julia Mary Theysohn Kane. On April 14, 1940, in Poughkeepsie, she married John J. Marcus, who predeceased her on July 8, 1974. She attended Poughkeepsie High School, was an Office Manager at BACU Fuel, Poughkeepsie, NY, until her retirement in September 1979, and a member of Our Lady Of The Rosary Church, St. Peter's Parish. Survivors include daughter and sonin-law, Julie and Ron Linton of Rhinebeck, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers and four sisters, Charles Kane, John F. Kane, Dottie Kane, Marie Sheehan, Anne Kane and Helen Miller. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on October 21, 2008 at 10:00am, at Our Lady Of The Rosary Church, St. Peter's Parish, 185 Hudson Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, LaGrange Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Mid-Hudson Animal Aide, 55 Simmons Lane, Beacon, NY.

Carmela M. Scotti
POUGHKEEPSIE - Carmela M. Scotti, 96, a local Poughkeepsie resident all her life, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, died on Friday, October 17, 2008, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born December 1, 1911, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary D'Andrea Scotti, Sr. She was a Home Maker, graduate of Wood Purtin Business School, and a member of St. Mary's Church. Survivors include sister, Viola M. Peluso of Poughkeepsie; sister, Marion I. Poluzzi of Poughkeepsie; sister-in-law, Dorothy Scotti of Poughkeepsie; sister-in-law, Theresa Scotti of Poughkeepsie; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers William, Frank, Paul, Robert A. and Louis Scotti. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 from 10:15am to 11:15am at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at 11:30am, at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY.
