George Clark, III
George Zeigler Clark, III, age 60, passed away on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2008 at his home in Winter Park, Florida. He was born on March 30, 1948 in Orlando, Florida, to the late George Zeigler Clark Jr. and Dorothy Boulware Clark. He attended Winter Park High School. Following high school, George embraced his love of music and ventured out to tour the country with his musical brethren. He is best known as a member of the Southern rock band Cowboy, along with touring and playing with the likes of Duane Allman, among many others. George was also a member of the first touring company for Jesus Christ Superstar. After he made the change from music as an occupation to music as a beloved hobby, George settled down in Rhinebeck, NY and became a classically self-taught carpenter. George worked as a classical restorer at Montgomery Place mansion in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York before moving back to Winter Park and working for the past 11 years as a master carpenter at Freeman Company in Orlando. Although George might be known by most as a musician, he held many other affinities - namely fly-fishing, golfing, canoeing, and anything else having to do with the outdoors. Always there to offer a laid back quip on life, George was able to put things in perspective and enable those around him to slow down a bit and smell the roses (or the Orange Blossoms, as it were). Finally, George's proudest achievement was that of Father. In 1979 he and his then-wife, Marcia van den Berg, gave birth to his daughter, Courtney, who was the apple of his eye. George is survived by his daughter, Courtney, and her husband, Ted Hunt; a granddaughter due in January, Lillian Hunt; a step-granddaughter, Catherine Hunt; two sisters and their husbands, Pamela and Carl Rader and Dorothy and Kevin Hanna; three nieces, Melanie, Lauren and Natalie; along with other relatives and countless friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Michael Ivers. A celebration of George's life will take place at 1pm, Saturday, November 1st at Spatz Deli & Billiards on 1025 W. Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park. All are invited to attend to remember the good times and rejoice in having known an individual as unique, loving, and kind as George. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of George Z. Clark to Trout Unlimited or the SPCA of Central Florida.
