John J. Shannon
John J. Shannon, 87, died on Friday, October 24, 2008, at Ferncliff Nursing Home. He was a Manager of DE's Jewelers in Millbrook, NY, until his retirement in 1989 and served in WWII - U.S. Coast Guard. The family would like to say thank you for the thoughtful care he received from the staff and nurses on 4B and the prayers offered by the Carmelite Sisters. Born May 12, 1921, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Edward and Ann Doherty Shannon. On August 29, 1943, at Holy Trinity Church, he married Susan A. Kennedy, who predeceased him on April 2, 2005. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Rene Shannon of Hyde Park; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Leonard Hart, Jr. of Hopewell Junction; grandchildren, Nicholas, Brian and Leonard III; great-grandchildren, Leonard IV, Jacob, Samuel, Zachary and Lucy; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct., 28, 2008, at St. Mary's Church, Poughkeepsie, at 10:00am. Burial will be at the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery. A memorial donation may be made to Alzehimers Association, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Ste. 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Herbert Walter Willis
POUGHKEEPSIE - Herbert Walter Willis of Poughkeepsie, NY, entered into eternal rest Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center; he was 72 years old. He was born June 12, 1936 in Poughkeepsie, NY, to the late Sara Jackson and Walter Henry. He grew up in Pleasant Valley and was educated in the Arlington School district where he received his high school diploma. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served his country for 3 years and met his wife of 42 years, Rosa Lee Bryant. They were joined in marriage on Jan. 11, 1958. After serving in the military he worked for Schatz Federal Bearing for more than 10 years and later entered into employment with the Arlington Central School District, where he retired after many years of service. Following that he worked part-time for Allied Securities. Herbert was an outgoing person with a good sense of humor and a million dollar smile. He was an excellent bowler and once served as the Director of the Putnam County Bowling Association. He was a family man who worked hard to ensure his family's needs were met and his family deeply loved and appreciated him. Herbert excelled in Track and Field and Football at Arlington High School. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Algenon L. Willis and Bernard L. Willis (wife, Gwynda Willis); a daughter, Michelle Y. W. Flowers (husband, John Flowers); one brother, Donald Willis Sr. (wife, Ethel Willis); four grandchildren, Aterrell Willis, Christian Willis, Alexandra Willis and Alexis Flowers; two nephews, Arthur Faulk and Donald Willis, Jr.; three great nephews, Adam Faulk, Donald Willis III and Jeremiah Willis and a host of family and friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Jamesena Faulk (Joseph Faulk) and a favorite Aunt, Margaret Major. A memorial service will take place on Wed. Oct. 29, at 7:00pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie, NY. There will be no calling hours. Disposition of the remains will be at the convenience of the family. Level wheelchair entrance available from rear entrance of funeral home on Vassar St.

Vincent Courtland Wright
MAITLAND, FL - Vincent Courtland Wright, 95, of Maitland, Florida, flew into heaven on the wings of angels on Wednesday, October 15. He made a perfect landing! Vince was born on December 4, 1912 in Pine Plains, NY. He was the only son of DeWitt and Anna Marie (Linskey) Wright. He lived there his entire life until purchasing his home in Florida in 1976. He was a "gentle-man" in every sense of the word, truly loved life and lived every moment to the fullest. Many friends have said that they were honored to know such a unique and honorable man. Above all, he loved his family, especially his wife and his children. He treated his seven children with equal amounts of love, patience, respect and guidance. He was totally unselfish and never failed to help them and his many friends. He loved to tease and joke, dancing, Big Band music and the sound of Lawrence Welk. He also loved sports cars, vanilla milkshakes and sharing a rum and Coke with his sons. He had a passion for flying and cruising to as many parts of the world as he could manage. He and his wife had gone on 80 cruises! He was constantly exploring new ideas and philosophies. He was fascinated by the ancient world, the Bible and other mysteries. He never tired of researching ancient cultures as well as his family genealogy. He was especially proud to be a 12th generation descendant of Edward Doty who was one of the original Mayflower passengers. Vincent graduated from Springfield College, MA in 1935 and immediately joined the Navy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #615. He wanted to be a pilot and was one of the first to be enrolled in the Air Cadet Program at Pensacola. Afterwards, he remained in Florida as a flight instructor. Before WWII, he was stationed on the USS California and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. Finally, he became the squadron leader for several utility squadrons, notably VJ 4 and VJ 16. He served in Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Guantanamo. After retirement, he returned to Pine Plains where he owned and operated a small airport and eventually became a 20 year teacher at Stissing Mt. High School in Pine Plains. After retirement in 1976, he moved to Florida. He was predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis Tremper, and is currently survived by his second wife of 41 years, Loretta, his children: Cort Wright (Maria} Jennis Dygert (Fritz), Elissa Holt (William), Flip Wright (Tina), Wade Wright (Chris), Frank Deame (Mary) and Jed Deame (Chi) as well as 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private for family members. A Memorial Service is being planned for a later time to which all his friends will be welcome.

Robert L. Cianchetta
LARGO, FL - Cianchetta, Robert L., 49, of Largo, FL, and formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at his home. Robert was born June 25, 1959 in Albany, NY and worked in sales. He is survived by his fiance; Colleen Murphy of Largo, FL. Two sons; Justin and Thomas both of VT and a daughter; Amanda Cianchetta of NJ. Arrangements are being handled by the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 727-562-2080.

Lenore D. Schiffman
POUGHKEEPSIE - Lenore D. Schiffman, 92, of Poughkeepsie, died at her residence on Sunday, October 26, 2008. Born in New York City on January 20, 1916 she was the daughter of Max and Estelle Charmack Dick. On January 23, 1939 in New York City Lenore married Herbert Schiffman who predeceased her. During the 1950's through the 1970's, Mrs. Schiffman was employed by Lord & Taylor in Garden City, NY. Lenore was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed knitting, baking and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Scheer and her husband Kenneth of Poughkeepsie; her son Alan Schiffman and his wife Sedra of Naples, FL. and Brielle, NJ; grandchildren, Marc, Abby, Sara, Lauren, Andrea, Aaron and Jane; great grandchildren, Emmett, Daniel, Rafael, Jessie, Dalia, Ian and Sagiv; sister Shirley Cavalina of N.J. and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will be in New Montefiore Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.

Floyd E. Chadwell
MILLBROOK - Floyd E. Chadwell, 83, of Millbrook, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Chadwell was the founder and owner of Chadwell Insurance Agency in Millbrook from 1954-1988. Born in Warrenton, VA, on March 21, 1925, he was the son of Elias B. Chadwell Sr. and Nellie Sinclair. On December 31, 1945 at the Lyall Memorial Federated Church in Millbrook, Floyd married Louise Potter. Mrs. Chadwell survives at home. Mr. Chadwell served with the US Army Air Corp during WW-II. He was a member of the Lyall Memorial Federated Church in Millbrook. In addition to his wife Louise, Floyd is survived by his daughter, Linda Bruzgul of Millbrook; son and daughter in law, Wayne and Nancy Chadwell of Clinton Corners; grandchildren, Heather Dennis of Clinton Corners, Cheryl Bruzgul of Millbrook, and Jonathan Chadwell of Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandchildren, Kara Dennis and Peyton Dennis; brothers and sisters, Rixey and Thelma Chadwell of Wilderville, OR, Marvin and Margaret Chadwell of Millbrook, Thelma Russell of Clinton Corners, and Alyce and Richard Cole of Poughkeepsie; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Evelyn Anspach, Earl Chadwell, Irvin Chadwell, Elias B. Chadwell Jr. and Helen L'Heureux. Visitation will be Monday 5-8 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11 am from Lyall Memorial Federated Church, Maple Ave., Millbrook. Interment will follow in Nine Partners Cemetery, Millbrook. Memorial donations may be made in Floyd's memory to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or Castle Point VA Hospital, Rt. 9D, Castle Point, NY 12511.

Michael Barry Galvano
EAST FISHKILL - Michael Barry Galvano, 69, a resident of Wiccopee, since 1986 and formerly of Carmel, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. Born in Mount Vernon on July 16, 1939, he was the son of Michael and Jean Marinaccio Galvano. He served in the US Army and was the owner and operator of numerous businesses in the area. Uncle Mike, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was a proud and loving father to Carlos who is 11 and James who is 9. He actively participated in their lives and enjoyed spending time with them. On October 26, 1985 at Dreamwold in Carmel, he married Loreen Sylvia Llauger who survives at home. He is also survived by his sons, Carlos Michael and James Barry; his brother, Donald Galvano of New Jersey; his sisters, Marie Frey of Carmel and Lorraine Perricone of Scarsdale; and his nieces and nephews, Michael Mancuso, Jeanne Frey, Philip and Anthony Perricone, Robin Galvano and Erik Galvano, Donna Dodge, Danny, James, Stephen and Michael Galvano. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James Robin Galvano on May 23, 2000, his nephew, Christopher Perricone and his loving niece, Christina Lauren Sebar. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow in St. Denis Cemetery.
