Evaline E. Stanton

Mrs. Evaline E. Stanton, 79, of Meadow Street, Johnstown, died Friday, May 4, at the Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.

She was born on Jan. 20, 1922 in Harmon, the daughter of Ivan and Mable Young Taylor.

She was employed at the former Johnstown Knitting Mill and also for the former MCA Records of Gloversville until her retirement.

Mrs. Stanton was predeceased by her husband, Howard Stanton, whom she married on Oct. 24, 1953. He died on March 9, 1974.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol A. Kilinski of Bluntville, Tenn., and Cora M. McSpirit and Sharon Stanton, both of Gloversville; two sons, Kit Lee Stanton of Gloversville and Timothy P. Stanton of Johnstown; two sisters, Marion Lashbrooks of Gouverneur and Nellie Murdock of Adams; three brothers, Raymond Taylor of Gouverneur, George Taylor of Antwerp, and Frank Smith of Adams, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the First Baptist Church, Johnstown, or the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Private services and visitation will be held at the convenience of the family.

Robert Corydon Wilson

Mr. Robert Corydon Wilson, 86, of 24 Whitmore Ave., Johnstown, passed away Friday, May 4, at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Gloversville, the son of Frederick W. and Ethel Hamm Wilson. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School in 1932 and attended Gloversville Business School.

From 1933 to 1953, Mr. Wilson was the freight and passenger accountant for the FJ & G Railroad. From 1954 until his retirement in 1974, he was employed by the Gloversville Federal Savings and Loan, where he started as a teller and eventually became treasurer of the association.

Mr. Wilson was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He was a member of the Concordia Singing Society, the Johnstown Senior Citizens and was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret M. Chvila of Johnstown, whom he married Aug. 14, 1938; one daughter, Diane C. Vandrei of Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, Shirley W. Connolly of Johnstown; two granddaughters, Pamela V. Bell and Darcy J. Kirkey; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.

There will be no visiting hours. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 7, at St. John's Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, N.Y. Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to JAVAC.

Peter J. Zielinski

Mr. Peter J. Zielinski, 88, of McCleary Avenue, died Friday evening at St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness.

Born May 25, 1912, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Szufnara Zielinski. He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.

Mr. Zielinski was a World War II Navy veteran. He served with the Sea Bees and was stationed in Guam.

He at one time was employed by the Sanford Carpet Mills and later was a partner with Dominick Bottisti Jr. in B & Z Home Remodeling in Amsterdam until his retirement.

Mr. Zielinski was a member of St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman and the Church of St. John the Baptist, Amsterdam.

He was married to Helen E. French on June 30, 1940. She died on Dec. 27, 1980.

Mr. Zielinski is survived by his loving daughter, Claudia Z. McNeil of Perth; three devoted grandsons, David A. McNeil and his wife, Mary A. McNeil of Amsterdam, Christopher J. McNeil and Patrick J. McNeil, both of Perth; two special great-grandsons, Andrew D. and Matthew D. McNeil of Amsterdam; one brother-in-law, Kenneth L. French and his wife, Helena, of Amsterdam; one sister-in-law, Virginia E. French of Amsterdam; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Zielinski was predeceased by a brother, William Zielinski, and three sisters, Genevieve Wyszomirski, Sophie Zielinski and Helen Olbrych.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial at the Church of St. John the Baptist.

Interment will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Mary's Foundation in care of the funeral home.

Jane Albini Balzano

Mrs. Jane Albini Balzano, 88, of Gloversville, died Sunday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1912 in Gloversville, the daughter of Ettore and Amelia Albini Albini.

She was employed as a glove maker by G. Balzano and Son Inc. of Gloversville.

Mrs. Balzano was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church and its Women's Society; the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club; the 55 Plus Senior Citizens Club; and the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary, all of Gloversville.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Paris of Shelton, Conn.; her brother, James Albini of Gloversville; her sister, Mary Savarese of Azusa, Calif.; her grandsons, Timothy S. Paris and his wife, Amy, and Daniel J. Paris; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was married to Carl M. Balzano on Sept. 21, 1946. He died on Nov. 28, 1976. She was also predeceased by a brother, Charles Albini, and a sister, Rose DeGaro.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Gloversville. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 149 S. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078 or the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY12205.

Marguerite Kobuskie Hellwig

Mrs. Marguerite Kobuskie Hellwig, 94, of Phelps Street, Gloversville, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, Gloversville.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1906 in the town of Bleecker, the daughter of Joseph and Henrietta Walther Kobuskie.

She was employed many years ago as a telephone operator by the former Glen Telephone Co. She also worked for Collier's Magazine for several years.

She and her husband were avid skiers, and attended many ski club and resort functions over the years. Mrs. Hellwig was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Pine Brook Golf Club, both of Gloversville.

She is survived by her brother, John "Jack" Kobuskie of Gloversville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was married to Albert J. Hellwig, who died in 1972. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Marion Tomek, Ruth Robbins, and Esther Pelcher; and her brothers, Leonard Kobuskie and Joseph Kobuskie.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. The Rev. Lauretta J. Dietrich, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 521 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Gordon W. Morris

Gordon W. Morris, 81, of Syracuse, died Saturday at the home of his daughter.

He was born in Fox Hill, N.Y. He had lived in North Syracuse since 1960 and had summered at Lanz's in Clayton, N.Y. since 1980.

He was an honors graduate of Northville High School and a graduate of General Electric Turbine Department apprenticeship program in Schenectady.

He was employed as a supervisor and tool and dye designer in the microchip department at General Electric Co., Liverpool, N.Y. In his early years he had worked in a Feltspar mine and been a logger and woodsman. He was employed for 35 years and retired in 1985.

He was a member of the Sports Car Club of America and had raced at Watkins Glen. He was a fisherman and hunter and had traveled extensively in the United States.

He is survived by one daughter, Constance Ranalli of Camillus, N.Y.; two sisters, Joyce Ashlaw of Gloversville and Beulah Morris of Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, Walter Morris of Schenectady; three grandchildren, Maureen Woodcock of Mattydale, N.Y., Kimberly Lanning of Bernhards Bay, N.Y., and Michael Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren, Nicole, Alison, Joshua, Tiffany and Kristen. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, the former Dorothy Jensen, who died on Jan. 30, 1998.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 S. Main St., North Syracuse. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Edinburg Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Klueg, will officiate. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
