Victor Gentile, aged 74, passed peacefully on January 23, 2016, in the arms of his beloved wife Claudette Gentile. Victor was born on February 18, 1941 in Bari, Italy the son of Guiseppe and Antonia Gentile. He migrated to the USA in 1946 and later became a citizen. He served in the Navy from 1962-1966 and was released with an honorable discharge. His positive energy and smile always lit up a room. He was a compassionate and loving man and family was always his top priority. He was and will continue to be loved by the lives he touched on his journey through life.
One of eight children, Victor was raised in Italy until he was about 5 years old, during the events of World War II. Coming from humble beginnings, he and his siblings took care of one another through the hardships of war.
After having served in the military, Victor found work as a UPS driver and resided in the Bronx until he later found work as a union worker on the east side of Manhattan as a maintenance man. He worked hard all of his life finding little time for much else. In 1995, as if in a fairytale, at the age of 59 and having never been married, he found the love of his life and soul mate, Claudette Gentile. They wed on a picture perfect fall day on September 13, 1998 and were happily married for 17 love filled years. He became the step-father of Dominique Lombardi, Francine Ruffolo and Vincent Ruffolo through marriage but he never treated them as just step children, he truly became their father. He was an amazing role model for them and was someone they could always go to for advice, guidance and love.
Victor was best known for his strong family oriented character and spending time together. He enjoyed having his brothers and sisters over his house every Saturday to play cards, have fun and share many laughs. His pride and joy was his beloved garden to which he tended to daily in the warmer months spending endless hours caring for his wide variety of plants. He was always happy and music was something both him and Claudette loved to dance to together every chance they had. His laugh was by far his most memorable trait and could make anyone light up with a smile.
Victor is survived by his wife Claudette; three children Dominique, Francine and Vincent; 9 grandchildren; sisters Rose, Theresa and Elizabeth, brothers Giacomo and Sergio; six nieces and eleven nephews and a number of other relatives and close friends. He is predeceased by his brother Vincenzo Gentile and his sister Nicolette Cattaneo. He will forever be loved and deeply missed.

Coletta Cattaneo, aged 88, died peacefully on January 21, 2016, surrounded by close family. Coletta was born August 7, 1927 in New York City, the daughter of Guiseppe and Antonia Gentile. She was a wonderful person who was loved by all, and always treated her friends and family with warmth and compassion.

In 1950, Coletta moved back to America where she continued to raise Joseph before eventually giving birth to her daughter, Cecilia in 1952. Now a proud mother of two, Coletta raised her children in their Bronx home, and helped provide for the family working as a seamstress making dresses at a local clothing factory.
The consummate host, Coletta was best known for entertaining friends and family at her home, no matter the occasion. Her ability to cook was second to none, and all who tasted a meal prepared by Coletta walked away with a full stomach and desire for seconds. Her trademark tadelles were Coletta's pride and joy, and an essential part of the dining experience at the Cattaneo household. There was nothing Coletta enjoyed more than bringing family together to celebrate their love and unity.
