DANDRY, REV. ANTHONY C.
On April 8, 2010, Reverend Father Anthony Christopher Dandry, 67 of West Keansburg, New Jersey, formally of New Rochelle, New York, passed to eternal life while recuperating from a recent illness at the Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, New Jersey. Father Dandry was born on November 25, 1942, to the late Patrick Dandry and Vera Aloise Dandry. He is survived by six brothers and sisters, Patricia A. Herman of New York City, Michael (Miriam) of Mount Vernon NY, Joseph (Deborah), Jacqueline Cunneen, Julia Dandry and Angela Vitulli (Paul) all of New Rochelle. In addition, Father Dandry is survived by his dear nieces and nephews, Laura Jean, Jennifer Ann, Robert John, Andrew, Edward, Gregory, John Pascale, Paul Cecere as well as great-nieces and nephews James, Samantha, Christopher and Madeline. The product of a large family, Father Dandry was the grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Anthony Dandry and Mr. & Mrs. Biase Aloise of New Rochelle. Father Dandry's very early vocation to the Roman Catholic Priesthood was encouraged in no small part by the affectionate and material support of his uncles and aunts of blessed memory, James N. Dandry (Lucinda), Michael Dandry (Ciss), Joseph Dandry (Caroline), Rose Smith (Joseph), Mary Colangeli (Americo), Frank Aloise (Carrie), Pat Aloise (Rose), Rose DeLuca (Joseph), Fannie Passarelli (Louis), Emma Cammarato (Joseph), Julia Giuliano (Peter), Louis Aloise (Virginia), Madeline Vitulli (Michael), Jesse Del Torto (Frank). Throughout his life, Father Dandry remained close to and often officiated at religious ceremonies to benefit his various 42 first cousins. As a practiced matter, Father Dandry routinely wove life lessons inspired by his family and friends into his often powerful sermons. At the time of his passing, Father Dandry had retired as a parish priest governed by the Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey but still served the people of St. Catherine's Church in Middletown, New Jersey. Prior parish postings included the communities of Sayreville and Boundbrook, New Jersey. Without question, given Father Dandry's many years of spiritual service to all the communities he lovingly and passionately embraced, Father "Tony"'s survivors must include all his fellow clerics and parishioners who were his extended family in fact and in his thoughts each and every day of his temporal life. Father Dandry's vocation began in the 1950's while he was in elementary school which was fostered by Sister Rita of the Sisters of Charity Convent at Saint Gabriel's Church in New Rochelle. Sr. Rita, in training the parish alter boys was so taken with the depth of young Anthony Dandry's vocation that she gave him a custom made scale model altar and vestments created for her training classes. Father Dandry studied for the priesthood at semineries in Kitchner, Ontario, Canada and in Cromwell, Connecticut culminating in his ordination in 1989. Ceremonies of reflection and celebration include a wake in the sanctuary of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church Sunday, April 11th in Middletown New Jersey from 3 - 7:00 PM followed by a Latin mass for the public. The funeral will be held on Monday, April 12th at 10:30 AM. Internment has been scheduled for Holy Sepulcher Cemetary in New Rochelle, NY in proximity to his maternal grandparents. A New Rochelle memorial mass has been scheduled for 5:15 PM on Saturday, April 24th at St. Gabriel's Church located on Washington Avenue in New Rochelle, NY.
