BUNTON, SHIRLEY

Shirley Bunton, co-publisher of Rockland County's Rivertown magazine, has died after a short illness at Westchester Medical Center. Her polite British accent and effervescent sense of humor made her a popular figure in Nyack. For many years, she volunteered at Grace's Thrift Shop on South Broadway, where she worked twice a week. Shirley was born in the English fishing village of Leigh on Sea in 1933. After she married Peter Simmons she moved to Canada and gave birth to three children: David, Diana and Jeanette. When her marriage ended she moved to America in 1973 where she met and married magazine editor Phil Bunton. The couple moved to South Nyack in 1984. But it wasn't until September, 2000, that they launched Rivertown magazine, which is currently celebrating its eighth anniversary. She was the first voice everyone heard whenever they called the magazine, and she played a major role in the magazine's success. Shirley is survived by son David Simmons and daughter-in-law Gloria, of St. Catharine's, Ontario, daughter Diana Mclntyre and son-in-law Reg, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and Jeanette Dailey and son-in-law Ross, of Nyack. She has five much loved grandchildren -Lindsay and Sami Mclntyre; and Peter, Siobhan and Kayla Dailey. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10 AM. CELONA, PETER A.
Peter A. Celona of Thornwood passed away Friday, July 11 at 88 years of age. He wasborn on July 7, 1920 in New York City to Salvatore and Francesca (Fama) Celona where he was raised and graduated from Commerce High School in Manhattan. Mr. Celona was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife Angelina (Saglibene) of 66 years; his children Salvatore (Marie), Peter Jr., Lesa Barrett, Francesca (Douglas II) Downing and Tina (Charles II) Piccoli. He was the loving grandfather of Peter (Katrina), Salvatore, Angela, Christopher, Heather (David) Loftus, Douglas III, Charles III, Michael and Alexa and great-grandson Adam (Padilla). He was a resident of Thornwood for 58 years where he served in the early years as a volunteer in the Thornwood Fire Dept. and a coach in the Thornwood Little League. He was a proud member of the Gilbert Rauh Post of the American Legion in Thornwood. Visiting hours will be at the Maher Funeral Home, Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM, July 14. Mass of Christian Burial, Tues. 10 AM at Holy Innocents Church, July 15. Interment All Souls Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Pleasantville Ambulance Corps. SMITH, GEORGE M.
George M. Smith of Mahopac, NY died Friday July 11, 2008. He was 85. He was born in Watertown, NY on February 7, 1923, the son of George and Florence Easton Smith. George graduated from SUNY Oswego and did his graduate work at SUNY Albany. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII where he received The Distinguished Flying Cross, among others. He retired as a teacher at Mahopac High School in 1981. Prior to teaching here, he was the business administrator in the Mahopac Schools. Before coming to the Mahopac School District, he was the business administrator at the Onteroa, NY School District and had previously taught industrial arts in the Laurens, NY and Gloversville, NY School Districts. George was a member of the Lake Mahopac United Methodist Church, VFW Post 5491 in Mahopac and the Danbury Mineral Club. On April 24, 1943 he married Vera A. Venn at Maxwell Field, Alabama. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Andrew of Mahopac and his daughter Nancy (David) Jones of Windsor, CA, his grandsons Samuel, Jacob and Caleb as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Martha Dickson who raised him. Visiting Tuesday 4 PM to 6 PM at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. SPODNIK, STEPHEN P.
Stephen P. Spodnik, 81, of Yonkers, formerly of Hastings, passed away on July 12, 2008. He was born on Dec 20, 1926 in Hastings to Matis and Anna (Krupa) Spodnik. He was educated locally in Hastings. Stephen proudly served his country serving two terms in the US Army. He married his loving wife Anna Gibas on July 1, 1950 at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Yonkers, she survives living in Yonkers. He worked as a conductor for NY Central Railroad now known as Metro North for 43 years retiring in 1990. He loved to go crabbing in the Hudson River and enjoyed travailing to Florida and going to the Beach. Stephen is predeceased by his brother John. Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children Stephen A. Spodnik (Retired YPD) of Yonkers, Ronald (Joanna) Spodnik (Retired YPD) of Key Largo, FL, Donna Spodnik of Yonkers, Anna Golderese of West Warwick, RI; his cherished grandchildren Matthew Golderese, William, Kevin, Maureen and Kelly Spodnik; and his adored great-grandchild Asher Spodnik. Also surviving are his sisters Margaret Spodnik of White Lake, NY, Josephine Anderk of Brewster, NY, Ann Mikuliak of Savanna, GA and Mary Jaye of Danville, KY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 17 at 10 AM at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Yonkers with Cremation to follow at Ferncliff Crematory. The Family will receive friends on Wednesday July 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Stephen's memory to either the American Cancer Society or Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. WILCHER, SAMUEL BLUCHER SR.
Samuel Blucher Wilcher, Sr., of Spring Valley, New York, died Friday July 11, 2008. He was born February 2, 1931 in Sandersville, GA. Mr. Wilcher retired from the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY, where he was employed for over 29 years and a member of CSEA. He served in the Army during the Korean war. Mr. Wilcher was a member of St. Paul's A.M.E. Zion Church, the American Legion Post 199, the Harriet Tubman Senior Center and a lifetime member of the NAACP. He is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Mary Alice Cook Wilcher, daughter Shirley Wilcher Scott (Vincent Scott), son Samuel Blucher Wilcher, Jr. (Angela Floyd), sisters Connie Dozier and Vondell Austin and a host of family, friends and loved ones. Viewing and Funeral Services will be held at the St. Paul's AME Zion Church on 121 Harriet Tubman Way in Spring Valley, NY. Viewing services will be held on Monday July 14th from 7-9 PM and funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 15th at 11:00 AM. Donations (in lieu of flowers) will be accepted at the St. Paul's AME Zion Church for their Youth Program. Donations will also be accepted at the Tipitina's Foundation-'Instruments A Comin' program. Gertrude Townsend Carman Cammett
Gertrude Townsend Carman Cammett of 931 Savage Farm Drive, Ithaca, (formerly of Geneva), passed away at Kendal in Ithaca on Thursday, October 17, 2002 at the age of 86.
Born on January 20, 1916 in Ithaca, Gertrude was the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth Franklin Townsend. Gertrude was raised on the family farm in the Trumansburg area.
Gertrude married Robert Carman and resided in Trumansburg. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses and was employed at
the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine
Several years after the death of her devoted husband, Robert Carman, Gertrude married Clifford E. Cammett and moved to Geneva. She was a member of The Presbyterian Church in Geneva and became active in the Knoxville Circle of the Presbyterian Woman's Association. She was also a member of the Geneva Historical Society and the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes. After Clifford's death Gertrude moved to Kendal at Ithaca.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, Gertrude was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Elizabeth who died from Tuberculosis in the Sanitarium where both Gertrude and Elizabeth were being treated many years ago.
She is survived by cousins and many dear friends.
A Graveside Service, at the Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg, is planned for Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. W. James Gerling officiating.
A Memorial Service, in the Conference Room of Kendal at Ithaca, is planned for Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at 3:00 pm.
In keeping with Gertrude's wishes, no public calling hours have been scheduled.

Lisa Ann Van Valen
Lisa Ann Van Valen of 2690 Agard Road, Trumansburg passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 11, 2002 at the age of 35.
Born in New Iberia, Louisiana on February 25, 1967, Lisa was the daughter of Paul Joseph Touchet and Gayle Marie Johnson both of New Iberia, LA
Lisa graduated from the San Pedro High School, California in 1985 and completed training in Acute and Long-Term Care in Los Angeles, CA in 1986.
Moving to Trumansburg in 1987, Lisa worked for years at numerous Day Care locations throughout the area. A deep-seeded compassion and love for children led Lisa to enrollment in the Child Care Curriculum at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.
Lisa also enjoyed her position as Hostess at Richard's Restaurant where Richard Updike provided encouragement and friendship, which truly enriched her life. Many people also knew Lisa through her affiliations with Taughannock Farms Inn and the Finger Lakes Park Offices.
Lisa was married to John Scott Van Valen on August 24, 1991 and together they had three beautiful children, Katie Ann, Jonathan Parker and Kara Louise.
In addition to her husband and children, Lisa is survived by her parents, Paul Joseph Touchet of New Iberia, LA and Gayle Marie Johnson (her husband Stuart) of New Iberia, LA; two sisters, Debby Richey (her husband Duncan) of Keller, TX and Kristie Suire (her husband Troy) of New Iberia, LA; one brother, Danny Touchet of Lomita, CA; two nieces, Elizabeth and Jennafer; one nephew, Tyler; one great-niece, Madyson, and one great-nephew, Brenden, and many, aunts, uncles and friends whose hearts will hold a special place for Lisa forever.
Lisa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Odelle Walker and Howard
Bourque, Sr. and Paulin and Enola Touchet.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at 11:00 am with Rev. Eugene O'Hara, OFM Cap. and Rev. Deborah Pritts officiating.
The family will be present to receive their friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St, Trumansburg on Monday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
